That's what I first saw, and that's how I read it. "RECORD sales in Australia have hit an alarming low with a British metal band hitting the No. 1 spot with just 3600 album sales." This is the emphasised point in the article. the 3600 record sales, not the fact that it's a british metal band. The article is clearly poorly written, given that it comes from the HS. What it should say is "Record sales in Australia have hit an alarming low with just 3600 album sales being required for British metal band Bring Me The Horizon to reach the number 1 spot this week."
