Francis Jeffers heads Down Under after Blackpool snub
Sep 5 2010 by Alan Nixon, The People

FRANCIS JEFFERS will head to Australia after failing to convince Ian Holloway to hand him a contract at BLACKPOOL.

Jeffers, 29, is a free agent after being released by Sheffield Wednesday and hoped to prove he could still play in the Premier League.

However, a deal did not materialise and he has signed for Gold Coast United.

The Seasiders had been interested in former England keeper Richard Wright, but he is heading for the US to play for San Jose Earthquakes.

Holloway missed out on Preston midfielder Richard Chaplow after failing to agree terms.

hes up there with stan collymore, emile heskey and chris sutton(although at least he was decent at blackburn and made a name for himself in scotland) when it comes to awfully overpriced english strikers in the earlier days of the premier league

...he never really had any special traits about him...he was not very quick, he was not very good in the air, he had nothing special about his technique, no skill, did not have a good shot etc but wenger thought he saw something in him and it didnt take him long to realize how useless he was. hes basically a shorter version of matt simon

id say he would find his level currently in league 1, but i wouldnt be surprised if his career suddenly kick started again if he did come to the a-league and started scoring a lot of goals but i dont see the point in recruiting a player like him...although the phoenix didnt do much wrong with greenacre
