That was also the reason I started watching football in the A league, because I wanted to see flags that represented the club I was following, and not the country of my parents or grandparents. In the A league, the chanting in the terraces is about football and that's how it sould be.

That's fair enough. But now that the "traditional" clubs are in the State Leagues most have come to realise that the only ones who care enough to continue supporting them are those who feel the cultural link.

Yeah but at the same token, Italians are the most assimilated out of all the wogs, majority can not even speak Italian, while most ex-Yugos and Greeks are proficient in there languages.

It's cool though that Manly and Sutherland get better crowds then Marconi. Marconi and Blacktown are the two clubs with the worse support. Imagine when they play each other in front of less then 100 people....

Two sides of the story, Marconi should have strong support from the Italian community seeing as they are one of Australias most successful Clubs, however, the Italian community in Fairfield is pretty much non existent now with most Italians now living in the inner-west, especially in Leichardt, Five Dock, Haberfield and Lilyfield. Yet APIA aren't as well supported as they should be. So in effect, Italians are shit cunts.

italians in Australia are by far the worst supporters you will ever see, considering there population, and love for the game… I mean take a look at the world cup in 2006 when italy won it, they all came out of the woodworks and Norton st was packed… I just don’t think they will ever have the same love, or even care for Marconi, which is quite sad really, because they should be up there with the cros and greeks when it comes to supporting your team in this country.

Not a Phase, Not a Trend, SYDNEY UNITED till the END!

Rubbish... still plenty of Italians in the area.

Fact is that 99.99% of them dont give a fuck.

I look at comments on FB and everyone around Fairfield (ie. the neutrals) pretend that they have some kind of support for Marconi but none of them actually go to games

Marconi have close to the worst crowds in the league. Hardly surprising since they probably had the worst crowds of all the Sydney NSL clubs in their last few years

Thanks boys (I think!!) But Rigas, let me tell you something,I stopped watching Marconi about 10 years ago(well before the A league) because i was tired of all the bullshit that was going on at the Old NSL, then I went back to football because the A league promised to be something fresh and different; now after 5 seasons I can see that football is still managed by people with nothing but self interest in mind.

Expect to be surrounded by 70 old Italian men, or players wives, gfs and families unless they're playing Sydney United, BWE or Olympic.

Marconi is in the state its in because of people like charlie

Unfortunately, I think you make a good point Rigas. I don't understand people who think just because they follow an A-League team, they can't follow a local team or vice versa.

If you love football, you love football. End of story.

I'm looking forward to seeing Sutho this year - hopefully smashing Olympic when we play.\:d/

are u from Sydney or Melbourne?

originally from melbourne. been living in sydney for about 12 months now.

well then why are u supporting a team that was established after you left Melbourne doesn't make sense?

Probably because he is a football fan first and foremost.

Mate Olympic or any other state leauge club will not be in the big league EVER AGAIN.

So please get over it.

Support your club and be done with it.

Your posts are quite pathetic and childish, and laden with jealous remarks about the A-League.

History will show your club was once great but time moves on.

THE CURRENT FFA'S TALKS AS IF FOOTBALL STARTED IN THIS COUNTRY IN 2005 so think about what your saying.

I am an Olympic fan first then a football fan dude, i dont support a round ball i support and institution

But you will be proven wrong olympic will be in a top flight comp once again whether a-league or not not the issue

Bro - the passion you have for your club is amazing. As much as everyone else on here hates you, most of them with decent reasons, I respect the loyalty you have to your club and I wish the A-League had more people with your dedication - showing up to games regardless of weather, spreading the word, engaging in local communities etc

But I just don't get why you always have to shit-stir. As ralerasic said, and most other football fans agree, Sydney Olympic once were a great club, no doubt - but times change. Regardless of the circumstances, continue supporting your club - and let other people support their club, whether its A-League, VPL whatever.

Well, after a disappointing A league season for Sydney, it's time for me to go back to watch the stallions in the state league, can someone tell me how were the crowds at Marconi last year? I have not watched the state league for years and don't know what to espect, anyway ,in 2011 I'll be back at "the stable"

Pretty poor and the stallions have had very very good sides over the last 4 - 5 years.

As you can see by there website they put zero dollars in markeitng which is sad really.

Check out there website
http://www.marconifc.com/

The big crowd games are Olympic, United, Bonnyrigg
