With the conclusion of the NSL and reality setting in for this proud Club that they no longer had a part in modern football in Australia, uncertainty loomed on whether the Club would continue, or fold and become a distant memory. In the last hour, funds were made, and Sydney Olympic survived. Although crowds started off promising, a poor finish in their first season in the New South Wales Premier League saw crowd numbers dwindling and interest in the club falling.

Huge respect for Sydney Olympic, produced legendary Socceroos and did and still do a great service to the game in Australia. Probably one of the reasons I miss some of the NSL clubs, still waiting on our A-League teams to produce quality players that break into the Big 5 leagues in Europe and do not warm benches or end up in Asia.

Farrand93 was 11 years old when the NSL folded, ignore him Mini.

•Stigma that the Club is viewed as an ethnic club, despite efforts by the Club to appeal to all ethnicities.

As quoted in the article, that is your biggest problem.

Do you think a fan of Macedonian background would support a Greek club in the A-LEague?

It doesn't matter how you spin it, it will always be a Greek club.

Come to our games and you will see hundreds of people from different nationalities. As I said before - judging a team on it's heritage only is like judging a potential employee oh his ethnic background. It is unfair and you only end up cheating yourself and the prospective employee. Don't get hung up on it. Look at the whole picture. Every club comes from somewhere. We are proud of, but do not live in the past.

And every club that comes in will have people that support it, or not support it for whatever reason. We extend the hand of friendship to all. Remember - we will not be boxed in. If everone on this forum said "we accept Olympic as a broad based club as all the fans do" then the perception is immediately dead.

My comments come from no previous NSL knowledge, I didnt even follow Australian Soccer back then and was only drawn into the "fold" after my kids took up the sport some 10 years ago.

I understand all the bullshit that goes on between the ethnic based clubs and also note Olympic1 comments that the club is now and Australian club not a Greek club. Why the club is called Olympic the old crap will always get drawn into what you are trying to sell today.

Has the club considered a re-badge and possibility to change the name? All A League based clubs are called by location so far and I dont see FFA wanting to change from that format.

From all I have read Olympic are trying hard to come out from the old days and I congratulate them on their programs for the Womens game.

I went to about 5 of your games last year.

I couldn't even understand half the utlras songs anyway.

As much as it would be easier geographically for me to support Olympic, it will never be my club as a I don't have any Greek heritage. Non-Greeks will not support your club. A few might, yes but the majority won't.

Like I said before, I wish you nothing but the best of luck but in reality I am sure you guys know your chances are next to zero.

One more thing, stop spinning the crap about having 100s of non-Greeks attend your games as fans. It doesn't happen. I have been watching Olympic play for nearly 20 years, and the demographics of your fans haven't changed.

It is a very proud and successful Greek-Australian club and will always have a huge place in history.

The game has outgrown the ethnic allegiances of yesteryear.

All spin spun by the Olympic Ultras! Your own club thinks you blokes are a disgrace.

Your the one spinning shit!

I bet any of those non-Greeks only came to watch friends or family, none of them are fans mate.

That is a fact.

Any other football fan who grew up in Sydney and is not Greek WILL NOT support your club in the A-League.

No amount of bullshit articles can change that.

I hate Sydney FC and still would not support Olympic.

Western Sydney needs a team that embraces ALL BACKGROUNDS.

Anyway, the game will not allow any of the old ethnically aligned clubs to join the A-League. The govt pumps in money on the basis of the recommendations of the Crawford report. That money would not be given to the game if Olympic were allowed entry, as it would be contrary to the recommendations of that report.

You little Olympic ultras on here spinning shit should do your research first.

Why do you think South were rejected DESPITE having the best bid in favour of the Heart?

despite the assumptions made here, the Crawford report hasnt been fully implemented.

also, there are many non-greek fans of Sydney Olympic. I would go so far as to say that there are more Australian fans than Greek fans of Sydney Olympic. that is because Sydney Olympic is an Australian team, founded by Australians, playing in Australia.

Sydney needs a team that is interested in football in a way that these franchise bids do not seem to be. whether it is north, south, east, west or whatever, the next A-League team from Sydney needs to focus on its football, its fans and its structure. Olympic is in the best position to do this, despite what you might take as fact.

Best of luck.

You still haven't addressed any of my issues.

But anyway, does your Club know that a bunch of teenagers are running a bid for the A-League? Why has Sydney Olympic been silent on this issue.

Are you aware the FFA have NOT called for tenders to join?

How do you expect to be granted admission? Simply by talk on the internet.

What, like the bunch of teenagers running a bid for a different West Sydney team that has drawn images of an 'alliance' with GCU fans using MS Paint? :S

Please, Olympic doesn't need to respond to the fantasies of teenagers any more than Perth Glory needs to respond to me putting up a facebook group asking for them to be included in the EPL.

Ralerasic - A few points mate.

Firstly - with the most utmost repsect because you are a passionate football fan which i respect - you seem hung up on the ethnic issue. We have moved passed that. All fans of Olympic know we need to embrace supporters of all backgrounds.

Secondly - the bid is not run by a bunch of teenagers. And if it were - as long as their hearts are in the right place - what is the difference.

Thirdly - I am involved in the bid. I am a 30 something year old Business Manager. We have accountants, Students, Real Estate Owners, Business Owners involved in this bid.

Fourth - We are running the bid in consultation with the board who we are in constant contact with. You are thinking along the lines of a franchise. We are a community club - we regularly speak with the Olympic Board. We the fans are invited into the sheds to celebrate with the team. We want to share this experience with everyone out there - it is a magic feeling.

Fifth - The board themselves are in contact with the FFA. I cannot divulge any details as they are confidential I'm sorry.

As Olympic1 said, we are a community club, we go in the Olympic offices whenever the fuck we want. Also the Olympic Board have had several opportunities to ban us if they wanted too, and they never have. So what's this shit that they don't want us there? If they didn't want us there they wouldn't have donated a drum to us, allow us to use there storage areas, have meetings with them, allow us on the field to celebrate on the field after the GF win (which can be classified as pitch invasion), allow us to celebrate in the change rooms after the GF win and the Minor Premiership then ask us to all go clubbing with them afterwords. Yes I don't know where that rumour came from. Olympic promotes itself based on the facts. A statement like the board don't like the fan group(s) couln't be further from the truth. As Minimalistix said we walk into the offices whenever we like (I did so just last week). the board not only are happy to speak with us, but love us, because we are the club.

Olympic is a proud historic and successful Australian club, and those are facts no one can deny.

HOWEVR it is a Greek-Australian club, and that is why it will never ever gain admission to the A-League. It just won't happen.

Whilst I admire your passion and dedication to the cause, and the fight I am a realist and not an optimist.

Like I said, best of luck because you guys will need more than that.

Thanks for the compliments "kids".

yeah good job ignoring my post after I expose you being the idiot you truly are. I atleast provided facts as to why i know the board does want us to games. Now time for you to back up your statement with facts you idiot.

should the question not be why havent these olympic fans embraced and supported our existing a-league club sydney fc? im involved at rockdale, but also support syd fc.

the reality of it all is the second sydney based a-league club should be non denominational, and it should be based out west parra/balcktown/penrith way.

I got my information from Twitter where your club's "official" account attacked the Ultras. In any event, this is a not an argument about whether your board cares for the Ultras or vice versa. I don't care, nor does any other football fan in Sydney who is not of Greek heritage.

Stop trying to project yourself as a club for "all" fans.

That is what is frustrating me and all other fans with respect to your alleged bid.

Any new Sydney A-League team will and should be for ALL fans and NOT just those who share your Greek heritage.

I have been at games where you guys have racially abused Macedonians and other races.

Spare me the crap, your club will never attract the mainstream football fan. A simple read through these forums will show that Olympic fans have a complete disrepect for the average football fan, and now you expect us to support your club in the A-League.

Kolner, why should we? We already have our Football CLUB. You know very well that the situation between Sydney FC and Rockdale, and Sydney FC and Olympic is very different. Don't ask silly, you're much smarter then that.

If you have been to any Olympic vs Bankstown match, you would see that it was NEVER Olympic fans that started the political crap. As for Rockdale, we have proved over the last two seasons that both our Clubs can play against each other in a peaceful manner with no politics being involved in football.
