Im curious about this because in developed footballing countries like in Spain, France, Germany etc they start playing 11 v 11 until 14 I think?

I see around the grounds here and they are playing on the full pitch too early mostly when they 10 or 11 years old I wonder what the FFAs thoughts on this?

And what's the NC representation on this

A few years ago I coached an under 12 eleven person team on a full pitch. It was supposed to be the last year of it.

Under 11 was 9 a side in that year, 2009.

I prefer 5v5 like they do in Brazil until 13 years of age.

A lot of adults here want kids to play 11 v11 as early as possible.

The full roll out of the NC should be complete by this year. In many zones and states the roll out is complete.

6/7 Years - 4v4
8/9 Years - 7v7 (GKs)
10/11 Years - 9v9 (GKs)
12 Years - 11v11

Rep systems still used 11v11 at age 11. ie Metro League in NSW.

It will only be in the years to come that we see the benefits of this system when players get on the full field 11v11.

In Football NSW the vast majority of local associations had children in u 11 and below playing full pitch football.

According to the FNSW website the national FFA small sided football format has been implemented up to the following age groups:

U6 only (!)
 Western Plains

U6 to u8 only
Lithgow, Shoalhaven, South West Slopes

u6 to u 9 only
Albury Wodonga, Bankstown,  Blacktown, Central Coast, Granvville, Griffith, Macarthur, North West Sydney Womens, Orange

U6 to U 10 only
Bathurst, Dubbo, Eurobodallah, Football South Coast (Illawarra Region),  Gladesville-Hornsby, Highlands, Lachlan, Manly-Warringah, Nepean, Southern Districts, Southern Tablelands, St George,

U6 to U 11 (FFA compliant)
Canterbury, Eastern Suburbs, Far South Coast,  Kuring Gai, Sutherland, Wagga Wagga

The information is probably for the 2011 season so hopefully the associations which had SSGs up to u10s will be fully compliant in the 2012 season.

See that's interesting because countries like Germany and Spain they start 11 v 11 at a later stage than us, question is why have we gone this path and started the full pitch process from 12 years onwards, I mean with the bigger pitch there would be more space so there is less touches on the ball, that's my obversation from what I've seen so why have the FFA have chosen this path? What's the outcome of this?

i always thought the original ffa plan was for u13 11 v 11 but some where along the line they yielded to u12.

one of the issues i ssee from this is that clubs arrange thier teams into groups of six,and in training the groups rarely mix to get any benefit of training using 4 v 4 and so the sessions are woeful as sometimes there only 4/5 players kicking balls off cones performing legendary 'big kick' and chase.
The first 2 years of football should use 80 percent games 4v4 , 2o percent ball per player/ball between 2 players.
Aus players are behind at u8 as they have little concept of shape , it will interesting to see if great individuals are produced as you get swarm football/survival of the strongest at u9/u10.

My cousin was in the age group that was the first that had to go through the small sided games system. Apparently a lot kids stopped signing up for his club because they wouldn't have been allowed on the full field in the u9's.
Some people must have a sad way of looking at sport if they are going to prevent their kid from playing at all because they can't play on the "big" field yet.

My first year of coaching SSG (when it was first introduced on the coast) I took two teams to make sure I could get some meaningful training sessions in and it was also quite helpful when teams were short in school holidays etc. I made sure they were of equal ability as well but one team ending up coming on a lot better than the other by the end of the season which is something I didn't expect.

I think they should really mandate that coaches take on a squad of 10-12 kids and make up 2 sides out of that so they get the full benefit of SSG rather than just having some sessions with only 3 to 4 children turning up. I did however have an issue with an opposition coach that did the same as me but actually graded his kids and kept the stronger kids in one side and the weaker kids in another.
