Corruption is held ey..?!? maybe check definition of "Corruption" and get back to us.

Aussie4Ever, seemed like you were brown nosing what seems to be the general opinion on here, if you don't like people expressing an opinion contrary to yours or populist opinion then maybe you shouldn't bother participating in the discussion. It's a forum not a love in let's hear some arguments. Personally I like how the mods give people a bit of leeway, overall I think Joffa is a cracking mod even if I don't agree with his opinions and some of the articles get a little irritating. Doesn't matter, he lets things flow and it's good.

Why can't Ben and Chris make arguments? It's up to you to negate them if you want to participate, if you don't want to participate then just scroll on by.

The theory is that it's because Melbourne is a centralized city. All roads lead to the CBD.

I call bullshit on that. All of the AFL sides have their roots in the inner suburbs (which at the time they were formed were the outer suburbs).

The only reason that Heart won't lay claim to the north/east/south/west is for fear of alienation supporters in the other three. As a result they get a little support from each, rather than a lot from one. For my money there's more to be gained from dominating one part of the city, than from taking the scraps from the rest.

Heart's veterans playing for futures

Quote:
A number of senior Melbourne Heart players who come off contract at the end of this A-League season could be playing for their futures over the final weeks of the campaign as coach John Aloisi demands his older men stand up and be counted.
The team's lack of fight in its two recent losses - to Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand and at home to Adelaide United on Monday night - has left the club with only a slim finals chance.
It will probably need to take nine points from its final three matches - at home to league leaders Western Sydney and away to second-placed Central Coast, as well as finals-chasing Brisbane - to make certain of a play-off place, which on current form looks well beyond the team.
The club is understood to be relatively pleased with its financial position, if not its league position.

A board meeting on Monday is believed to have heard that, as a result of sales of its most promising young players earlier this season, it could break even this year and prove to its investors that it could operate as a sustainable business even with its low supporter base - if it keeps producing players it can sell on to foreign clubs.
But it has also accepted that such a business model is largely inimical to on-field success, and that it will have to invest further in experienced players and marketing and business development resources if it is to strengthen its position on the pitch and grow its small supporter base off the field.

Heart works to the salary cap ($2.4 million) but does not pay any extra, unlike most A-League sides which fund overseas and domestic marquee players and use other permitted strategies to lift their clubs' wages bills.
Players such as veteran defender Simon Colosimo (who turned 34 last January), Brazilian marquee man Fred (who turns 34 before the start of next season) and utility Matt Thompson (30), the first A-League player to reach 200 games (the milestone he marked in the loss to Adelaide) all come out of contract at the end of this season.

Veteran goalkeeper Clint Bolton, who has lost his place in the starting line-up, is another, while Richard Garcia (31), the former Premier League winger with Hull City, is also at the end of the one-season deal he signed when returning from Europe.
Of all those, the club would probably like to retain Garcia - depending on his salary demands - and perhaps Thompson, although he would be asked to take a pay cut if he wanted to stay.

Bolton may retire, while Fred's injury record ensures that he might be a very marginal proposition in the future. Jamie Coyne, the ex-Perth Glory defender, and Dutch midfielder Marcel Meeuwis were both signed as stop-gap players to provide cover and it is unlikely that they figure in Aloisi's long-term plans.
Heart retains some good youngsters - especially fullback Jeremy Walker - but it needs to get more out of its experienced men, starting this week.
■ Melbourne Victory has confirmed that its exciting left back, Adama Traore, will be sidelined for at least the next three to four weeks even though it is still not sure exactly how much damage his injured ankle sustained in the 1-1 draw with Brisbane Roar on Saturday night.
X-rays showed the 23-year-old had not fractured the ankle, but an MRI scan revealed a ligament tear.

For most people it's obvious that for Heart to grow a supporter base they either out perform Victory or Target a Geographic area like dare I say it, South Melbourne.

Gallop said in that interview on the world game that its not as easy as targeting a geographic area like Western Sydney, I'm not from Melbourne so I need it explained to me why that is?

They sold Marrone, Behich, Babalj, Hamill and Good - that's five transfers in order to break even. It took 3 years for them to get that quality package together. The question is - how fast can they repeat the process. Of the players on the books now, how many could command similar fees? Would Babalj tempt another club into a $300,000 splurge? Does Vrankovic have the potential to get a Good/Hamill size fee? Jeremy Walker - decent player, but I'd imagine it's another couple of years before anyone will come knocking with a decent offer for him.

This is not a case of bagging Heart - I'd say this of any club (in any league) if they said that sales were the key to financial stability... You have to do it every year, not once every three years.

But it has also accepted that such a business model is largely inimical to on-field success, and that it will have to invest further in experienced players and marketing and business development resources if it is to strengthen its position on the pitch and grow its small supporter base off the field.

Strange bit of journalism - they work to the salary cap, don't pay any extra, but have a marquee player. Which is it? Is Fred marquee in name only, with his salary inside the cap, or is the article just talking crap?

Veteran goalkeeper Clint Bolton, who has lost his place in the starting line-up, is another, while Richard Garcia (31), the former Premier League winger with Hull City, is also at the end of the one-season deal he signed when returning from Europe.

Again, this isn't an attack on Heart - I want them in the A-League and I firmly believe they'll be there next season - it's more an attack on the logic of the article.

WARNING: The next time you allege corruption, criminal behaviour or dishonesty by an A-League club/official, without facts I am going to ban you. That includes comments like Heart are going to fold at the end of the year without providing proof.

Joffa

Even with the above warning - I feel compelled to advise that I have heard from various solid quarters MH investors have said "enough is enough - we are not putting in any more money"

Luckily this is a break even season - or at least that is what we are told

I know I know - where is the proof you ask??

Well 442 - how about you get Sidwell on the phone including some of the board and ask them to refute the above

My info is solid and MH are in serious trouble

As for the above note - I believe Heart will go broke - it is an opinion i have based on what I see and deliver my opinion to this forum

Corruption is held by those that try to have us believe all is rosy at the Red and White

One more thing - Joffa - you are too sensitive to anything that is negative to our game

I am just as passionate as you about our game - however I don't see how ignorance can have a positive effect on our game

If something is not working out - we need to identify it - address it and resolve it

The Heart are a very weak link in this game - My opinion on the back of crowds of 5390 - re-affirms my position

so rather than give me warnings.....

>>>>>>

1. Pick up the phone 442
2. give MH a call
3. post some quotes from their board to reassure their small army and print on your FFA endorsed national magazine ......and
4. prove me wrong once and for all!!!

It's a business. There might be conditions on the sales that would provide enough money to break even, or they can only declare one way or the other at the end of the financial year.

I'd put it this way, if you make 50k in a year and spend 50k, your 'break even' could depend on if you get paid the day before the end of the financial year or the day after, or have a bill due before or after.

F..k off c..ts.

You let us Heart supporters worry about the Heart and the A-League and you worry about your little state league club south hellas.

How would you trolls like it if in the near future some of Heart's supporters started putting shit on your own little club with similar threads?

How would you like that?

And why is 442 allowing you to go on undermining an A-League club and the A-League in general on a daily fucking basis you scumbags?

Mods are ineffective, not strict enough.

A thread that we already had a thread for was allowed to run for 120 pages while mods commented on it. Users swearing at each other goes unpunished. I post a thread which I was clearly spamming pictures of tigers to see if it would get banned is kept alive along with a similar thread. Meanwhile this shit thing is not locked and then we have a mod who acts like this "I don't agree, but I agree" to this shit thread.

Is Joffa the only one that actually does anything.

Read the bloody rules and enforce them.

I'm sorry but this says to me, no ambition for titles, but only to develop players for the overseas market so the books are balanced.
There must be issues with the amount of debt they are carrying [Around the $4mil mark] or else the board would not be coming up with these kind of statements, Victory doesn't, Sydney makes huge losses but they keep spending.
If they are going to make a loss, because they are not certain they will breakeven at this point, how much of a loss 100k? 200k? 500k?
So why is it so important for the Heart board?
Don't they have the capacity to cover any more debts?
If there are any more substantiale debts would they shut shop?
And the issue of breaking even does that effect who is recruited and who is appointed into coaching positions and marketing spends?
Does this affect attendances?
Does this affect the brand and how the football attending market sees Heart?

That is not what I did at all, my warning was in regards to him making comments about corruption and also Chris claiming Heart were folding without supportive evidence. His OP comments do not cover my warning therefore I have moved it to the rumour mill.

That's my point Joffa. I don't disagree with you mate. But the idea was being thrown around that I am somehow letting Chris get away with stuff because he's my mate - I'm simply pointing out that you have put measures in place so nothing needs to be done by me.

School playground chant: "fight! fight! fight! fight! fight!..." :)

Back on topic - Farrand93 makes a good point about not putting friends in awkward positions. However, I'm not sure whether or not forum posters are considered journalists and therefore are under a professional and ethical obligation to protect their sources. Having said that, perhaps the best way of not putting friends in an awkward position is to either post with some form of support from a public source or not post at all.

So the most you can say about your mate is he's 'getting carried away'. Making serious accusations without a shred of evidence is getting carried away?
At least Joffa takes moderating seriously.

Yes - the most I can say is that he's getting carried away. He clearly is. Problem with me stating that? Problem with me making it clear that I don't endorse his opinion? Would you find it easier to pigeon hole me if I just agreed blindly with what he said?

In what way don't I take it seriously?

Chris oversteps the mark - his thread is locked, did I re-open it?

Chris gets carried away with rumours he's heard - they get moved to the rumour mill, did I move it back?

Joffa threatens Chris with a ban if he posts any unsubstantiated rumours - Chris posts some more, Joffa doesn't ban him... How does that reflect back on me?

People who say that anyone with inside info has to name names is actually stupid.

Why would you put a personal friend in any awkward situation by putting their name against info?

Simply stupid. If your source is a personal friend within the game, you shouldn't name them...

I will never name my source on things, because if someone reads that, it puts them in a horrible situation.
