Certainly paid tribute to those in my family that fought. Having been to Gallipoli, El Elamein and the Western Front,it showed me in part, just what these folk went through. Also been to death camps at Dachau and Sachsenhausen and the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem -all unfortetable experiences

Lest we forget to pump up the assumed preeminance of the military-industrial complex with annual mythologised ceremonial top ups...

indeed it is... “That's the whole point of good propaganda. You want to create a slogan that nobody's going to be against, and everybody's going to be for. Nobody knows what it means, because it doesn't mean anything.” Noam Chomsky "History is written by the victors." Winston S. Churchill Edited by blacka: 25/4/2013 12:11:57 PM

Do you believe there should be any recognition of people who gave their lives up and those who were seriously injured, for effectively altruistic purposes?

Annual ceremonies, uniformed parades, unending years of commemoration ...how long for? Would 'Peace Day' serve a better purpose? The whole thing feels more like a recruiting parade for the idea of war and re-filling the ranks after a certain point? And thats not even getting into the underlying precursors to those wars. The intent of people signing up may have been altruistic...but therein lies the rub with altruism sometimes....it is easily exploited by statists of all persuasions.

Whilst I disagree with blacka's disrespectful attitude, I think it exemplifies the point that our relatives died so that he could have the freedom to express such aberrations.
