Is anyone familiar with the specifics and whether there really is a case?
It sounds like Iran kept quiet until after the match to use as a "get out of jail free" card just in case they lost.

"Amin @aminkhaan · 23 mins 23 minutes ago Iranian media are more hopeful about a possible shock return to the tournament now. Rumours spreading that FIFA has confirmed Iran verdict."

David Davutovic was giving details on SS&E tonight but I had the volume turned down... Did anyone catch it?

and he played 90 minutes in their 1-0 win over Jordan...
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

If Iran get this it would be an absolute joke. Surely off the cards.

It sounds like Iran kept quiet until after the match to use as a "get out of jail free" card just in case they lost. x2. This Stinks. Also, If ASADA are the local agency doing the tests, it might take 2 years to get an outcome.

As a constituent body, the AFC accepted the team list from Iraq, so logic should say there is nothing here. Up to the AFC to have rejected the player before the tournament if he was banned.
However, stranger things have happened.

Latest on the Iran/Iraq situation: a decision from FIFA is expected this afternoon, Aus time. The entire Iranian side is still in Australia. The AFC's disciplinary committee will meet soon, Sydney time, to make a judgement on the Iran/Iraq case. Expect an answer this afternoon. https://twitter.com/mcintinhos

I'm biased because I wanted Iran to go through, but even besides that, rules are rules. If you field an ineligible player, say goodbye to the tournament.

Good news. Would've been a farce had Iran gone through. The AFC should have dealt with this before the game - it's shit form from the Iranians because it sounds like they were the only ones who knew of the actual ban and they didn't report it, they waited to use it in case they lost.

Apparently the meeting has just started, people calling out Mcintyre as a liar, getting ripped in the comments section. Although the chances must be almost none for it to be overturned.
