TYRES DURING THE 2016 SEASON Pirelli - the official supplier to all teams - provides three options for each race based on analysis of each individual racing circuit. Each driver must make use of at least two different (dry) tyre compounds in each race - unless it rains and intermediates or wets are used. Each team has thirteen spaces for dry weather tyre allocation of the three different tyre types selected by Pirelli for the race. Each team is provided with four sets of intermediate tyres and three sets of wet tyres. Of these thirteen sets, two are determined by Pirelli and can be either one or two types of tyre.
One set of tyres must be handed back to Pirelli 40 minutes into Free Practice 1. One set of tyres must be handed back after Free Practice 1. Two sets of tyres must be handed back after Free Practice 2. Two sets of tyres must be handed back after Free Practice 3. The two sets mandated for use by Pirelli may not be handed back and must be available for use in the race.
The hardness differences in the tyres is due to the chemical ratios used in construction, with softer tyres containing more oil than their harder counterparts - in addition to carbon, sulphur and the rubber. Softer tyres have the advantage of providing higher speed with the disadvantage of having less durability. They may be inflated with only air or nitrogen. Moisture may not be removed from the air prior to inflation.
- WET - Wet weather - Used when the track is wet with standing water. Treaded. Compulsorily used if the race starts in rain.
- INTERMEDIATE - Wet weather - Used when the track is wet without standing water. Treaded.
- ULTRA SOFT - Dry weather - Most grip, least durable. Slick tread.
- SUPER SOFT - Dry weather - Slick tread.
- SOFT - Dry weather - Slick tread.
- MEDIUM - Dry weather - Slick tread.
- HARD - Dry weather - Least grip. Most durable. Slick tread.
Notice; the lack of tread on dry tyres.
Thus far, the 2016 season has seen the following choices made by Pirelli for the individual tracks:- AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX - SUPER SOFT, SOFT, MEDIUM
- BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX - SUPER SOFT, SOFT, MEDIUM
- CHINESE GRAND PRIX - SUPER SOFT, SOFT, MEDIUM
- RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX - SUPER SOFT, SOFT, MEDIUM
- GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA - HARD, MEDIUM, SOFT
- GRAND PRIX DE MONACO - ULTRA SOFT, SUPER SOFT, SOFT
- GRAND PRIX DU CANADA - ULTRA SOFT, SUPER SOFT, SOFT
- GRAND PRIX OF EUROPE - SUPER SOFT, SOFT, MEDIUM
- GROSSER PREIS VON ÖSTERREICH - ULTRA SOFT, SUPER SOFT, SOFT
- BRITISH GRAND PRIX - HARD, MEDIUM, SOFT
- MAGYAR NAGYDÍJ - SUPER SOFT, SOFT, MEDIUM
- GROSSER PREIS VON DEUTSCHLAND - SUPER SOFT, SOFT, MEDIUM
- SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX - ULTRA SOFT, SUPER SOFT, SOFT
- BELGIAN GRAND PRIX - SUPER SOFT, SOFT, MEDIUM

Ferrari are terrible these days. Without Schuii they are nothing. Not to mention the backroom staff.

Well not as bad as pre Schumi days but were sure not moving ahead as expected of late. It does look bad mind you considering they have the 2nd biggest budget, the wheels had fallen off after looking promising start of the season. Losing Allison and his commitment prior to departure part of it. Hopefully some light sooner rather than later, especially for the sport :)

On Schumi, his son Mick actually attended his very first F1 event last week at Grosser Preis von Deutschland. Thankfully his management and family are holding him away from media because they just swarm him, and he's still really young. I'm not sure which division he is in at the moment but Ferrari will surely be keeping him as close to them as possible for the future.
Ferrari's engine this year has just been a mess. It's so unpredictable. I mean, it's difficult enough dealing with the beastly engine that Mercedes have come up with, with the turbo system, but Ferrari haven't helped themselves. They can count themselves lucky that Red Bull have unleashed some momentous fuck ups and deployed just some plainly stupid strategies this year otherwise they'd be so far behind at this point they would barely be able to make up any points in the constructor's championship to even get near second place.
Also, if you guys want me to put the constructors points into one of the posts, let me know and I'll get it done. If you want anything else in there that's to do with calendars/tables/etc just let me know.

I was listening to the comments of young Schumi attending, very sad, it was said he was hounded just as if he was a current F1 star driver. The press globally are leaches can't stop it I'm afraid. Yer, well I keep watching F1 due to having Fox but the game overall is in limbo land. The eco green is making it really challenging to appease to this change, the ridiculous F1 rules and silly changes back and forth make it worse, the lack of competition another, it goes on and on but as long as Bernie keeps adding to his $6b nothing much will change for now. Yep, thank god RB have been stuffing up (sorry for Dan though) for they sure would be after 4th otherwise. Draups, another car forum I frequent post up tire compounds and qtys for each team prior to each race if you like. Why not add the Manufacturers standings if you don't mind.

Good idea re; compounds, if I find it listed in a decent format I'll do that for sure. Maybe I'll do a separate thread for each race as that way the first post can have quali times/tyre compounds. Will add the standings now!

Suffering from some serious semantic satiation right now. The amount of times I just read the word "soft" in my tyres update has made it utterly meaningless. Just look at how it's spelt. Such a silly word.

I don't remember if I asked this during the race as it was a while back, but as you all know, dry races this year mean that teams have to use at least one of the two compounds that Pirelli say it must use. Did anyone find it weird that they made BOTH compounds for the Canadian GP the soft compound, as apposed to say, the soft and the supersoft?

Did anyone find it weird that they made BOTH compounds for the Canadian GP the soft compound, as apposed to say, the soft and the supersoft? For Canada they used the soft, supersoft and ultrasoft. The ultrasoft is primarily picked (it's specifically designed in other words) for street circuits like Canada and Monaco - Renault decided not to even take the supersoft to Canada because of that fact, and just took soft and ultrasoft, even for pratice and qualis. The teams must use at least two compounds. Hamilton who won it used ultrasoft and soft and only made the one pitstop. Vettel who came in second used all three varieties. Grosjean used three sets of ultrasoft and one set of soft.

Grosjean used three sets of ultrasoft and one set of soft. Actually, Pirelli pick specific compounds to be set aside. Example, Soft, Medium and Hard are the compounds. Generally, they have made teams keep a set of Softs for Q3, and they must use one of the Medium and Hards for the race. But, what they said in the tyre choices for Canada, was they had to use one of two Compounds of the soft tyre.

Tyre allocations for the Belgian GP at Spa have just been released. Medium, soft and supersoft available.
I've also updated the tyre post with a bit more info regarding tyre usage during the races.

Spa, one of the true best tracks still in F1. Love it ! I remember watching the day Mansell got the shits with Senna's bullying over taking tactics and typically screwed up Mansells race, Mansell storms to Senna pit grabbing him jamming him to the wall about the let loose - love those good ol days of raw emotions and personality's compared to todays nothings (barring kimi,DR and some others) and then we have Hamilton, the spoiled baby of a champ having hardly had any comp for years.

Mate don't get me started on Hamilton. What the fuck is with his put on American accent? Everything about that bloke is total cringe. A few of the guys are still fiery (without being whingers like Vettel). Webber was good fun, Not sure if you saw it, but when Johnny Herbert said that Fernando Alonso should retre, Alonso had some short sweet words, haha.

I think the most cringeworthy thing I've ever seen in F1 was this season actually. Justin Bieber was at the Monaco GP and waited for Hamilton at the podium area after the race lol. Before Hamilton congratulated his team he went to talk to Bieber who said "You crushmed em dawg". Fuck it was bad. And then Hamilton shared the champagne with him.
Honest Grade F- human being.
