Has a bad history of injuries and was released by Panathinaikos with a year to run on his contract, only playing 12 times last season. If he's half the player he was while at Chelsea he'll walk the league, an absolute bull in midfield
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

+xA bit of a stretch here to say the least but if they could sign essien + nathan burns (either marquee or force carusca / galekovic I believe is the other marquee? Back under the cap now that they have lost so much talent) then their starting 11 would be something like: ------------Cirio - Burns - Henrique -------------------carusca---------------isais-----essienGaruccio-la Rocca-McGowan-elrich-------------------galekovicMells, Kitto, elsey etcso even if they can make 2 huge signings in essien and burns, they have no depth on the pine and garuccio & Henrique would be weakish starting 11 players. Troubling times for Adelaide... Let's hope they can pull a rabbit out of the hat. love to see burns here but doubt he is coming. looks to be getting regular games at his tokyo club

Surely Michael Essien is a big enough player to be accepted under the "guest ruling"

Not old but not sure how his body is travelling. Would be a free I think since parting with Panathinaikos.

+xWow, how can last years champions be struggling to build a competitive squad so badly? Half their team is now made of fringe players, and they're going to add Henrique, a former youth team player and possibly an old and out of form Holman? How can they not realise how desperately they need quality players? And why aren't they an attractive prospect for other players? Everyone's leaving and nobody's joining them! i dont see how they are struggling to build a squad. just remember. no one expected shit from them this time last year. it was all "melbourne city, shitney and the tards". sounds familiar. look how that went.

+x+xHolman & Holland are the most likely unless someone terminates (Burns?) Adam Sarota is technically a former Socceroo, and he is also without a club at the moment. please not Sarota..... Nathan Burns yes !

The first two signings are rumoured to be Henrique (effectively replacing Dugandzic, Kitto replaces Kamau) and young Adelaide City winger Nikola Mileusnic.

+xBerbatov next option for sure. from the CEO today Within the week we will announce an overseas based Aussie and a local NPL player who has been given an amazing opportunity. We are also talking to a former Socceroo now based overseas and have a short list of three strikers, one of whom will take the prized fifth visa spot. Kevin Kuranyi was a target but he simply didn't want to come to Australia. Our offer was generous and substantial. We will have 21-22 squad members by Round 1 and we expect that our total squad will play in either one or two of our last pre season trials. "

Gone quiet .... maybe the funds to sign these players has not eventuated . Given the history of the club and tight control of finances

Yup fair enough. Would it be Burns (why would he come back?) or Holman (wasnt he returning to Netherlands)? Either would want big money but I suppose they have a marquee spot free.

+xMy reasons where that this thread is a stream of highly speculative whereas a separate thread could be more focused on discussing Kuranyi's merits specifically. Dont mind putting it back here... maybe a thread title change though to promote more specific discussion? Also wonder who the Aussie winger they mention is? Speculation is still rife. The best form of confirmation that link has is "The Advertiser can reveal" so it still has some way to go IMO. Most are confident the Aussie winger is Nathan Burns or Brett Holman.
