+xwill become Adelaide’s most significant signing in the history of the club This is coming from a club that had Romario ffs. So surely it is a big name. Probably better off forgetting Romario ever happened. Not hard to be more significant than a complete embarrassment.

Jefferson Farfan the latest rumour.
Speaks Spanish. Played in the Bundesliga. Only 31.
Would be fantastic.
Currently playing in the middle east but unhappy it seems. Not sure if he'd be 'guest' worthy though. Not a household name, but a quality player at a decent age!

Not sure if he'd be 'guest' worthy though. Not a household name, but a quality player at a decent age! Only one very, very big problem. He injured his ankle at the start of last December and has not played since. For a player that relies a lot on his pace a serious ankle injury could slow him down and limit his effectiveness. Having not played for so long, assuming he is at last getting over his injury, he would be at risk for muscle injuries. I don't think it is worth the risk.

At least a bit of intrigue in this article instead of just announcing the person your going after. If FFA are keen on him and its Adelaide most significant signing it must be someone with a bit of status. Hopefully they get there man. Would be great if the winger was Holman but can see it being burns.

Given Pizarro's age he would appear more likely to be released. However 38 is pretty old for a forward to play in Australia in Summer. Same as ADP though.
Still has a sensational goal scoring record. 14 goals in 28 games in the Bundesliga is excellent.
Not sure a big slow forward suits Adelaide though. Farfan would add the pace (if fully fit) and technical ability which would be more fitting.

CEO has said it's not Pizarro. Speculation is fun, hopefully it ends up being more than speculation for once!

My reasons where that this thread is a stream of highly speculative whereas a separate thread could be more focused on discussing Kuranyi's merits specifically. Dont mind putting it back here... maybe a thread title change though to promote more specific discussion? Also wonder who the Aussie winger they mention is?

The best form of confirmation that link has is "The Advertiser can reveal" so it still has some way to go IMO. Most are confident the Aussie winger is Nathan Burns or Brett Holman.

Yup fair enough. Would it be Burns (why would he come back?) or Holman (wasnt he returning to Netherlands)? Either would want big money but I suppose they have a marquee spot free.

Gone quiet .... maybe the funds to sign these players has not eventuated . Given the history of the club and tight control of finances

+xBerbatov next option for sure. from the CEO today Within the week we will announce an overseas based Aussie and a local NPL player who has been given an amazing opportunity. We are also talking to a former Socceroo now based overseas and have a short list of three strikers, one of whom will take the prized fifth visa spot. Kevin Kuranyi was a target but he simply didn't want to come to Australia. Our offer was generous and substantial. We will have 21-22 squad members by Round 1 and we expect that our total squad will play in either one or two of our last pre season trials. "

Holman & Holland are the most likely unless someone terminates (Burns?)

The first two signings are rumoured to be Henrique (effectively replacing Dugandzic, Kitto replaces Kamau) and young Adelaide City winger Nikola Mileusnic.

Wow, how can last years champions be struggling to build a competitive squad so badly?
Half their team is now made of fringe players, and they're going to add Henrique, a former youth team player and possibly an old and out of form Holman?
How can they not realise how desperately they need quality players? And why aren't they an attractive prospect for other players? Everyone's leaving and nobody's joining them!

+xHolman & Holland are the most likely unless someone terminates (Burns?) Adam Sarota is technically a former Socceroo, and he is also without a club at the moment.
