So on another thread I compared gol gol mebrahtu's recent move to Sparta Prague and where sparta are at against other Socceroos clubs using the ELO. For all those about to rubbish it all it does it compute together the results of each club over the last 5 years to earn an aggregate score. Results against higher ranked opposition are given more weighting.
Here are each Aussies club atm..

Sparta prague 1512
Mlada 1360
Celtic 1534
Hearts 1310
Hibs 1338
Jurics luzern 1436
Hudders 1559
Hull 1468
Villa 1578
Millwall 1499
Psv 1654
Brighton 1637
Hertha 1610
QPR 1417
Bursaspor 1400
Rukas maccabi really dropped low to 1261
Rosenborg 1522
Oars Apoel 1602 very high!
Giannous Larnaca 1515
Bochum 1445

According to the above the oar is playing for the equivalent of bottom epl side and giannou top of championship. Rosenborg and Sparta prague are high also equivalent of top of championship.

Just looked at the UEFA coefficients. Czech teams are ranked very high. Sparta Prague are ranked above milan, Marseille and Celtic and one below Valencia. Plzen are also very high.

I think from all the above we can deduce that Gol Gol and the Cypriot boys are perhaps being underestimated by ppl on here and the Socceroos bosses, conversely Scotland and maccabi haifa are weak.

A Socceroos 11 then based on elo ...

                              Ryan
Leckie  Sainsbury Jedinak Gersbach
                  Mooy         Holland
Mabil                Rogic             Oar
                          Mebrahtu

(This is assuming they all play)

Some interesting names put out there. Players that haven't been looked at that much inc oar Mebrahtu mabil and surprisly Holland. Even Gersbach hasn't been used much by the roos .

The other things we can deduce is that Luongo is at a club that is criminally beneath him. Their recent results are abysmal and look set for a tough yr. Needs to get out and should be playing at a much much higher level.

Other thing to note is that in addition to the czech and cypriot leagues we are perhaps understating the Austrian league. In both ELO and UEFA coefficients the Austrian league was quite high. Up there these days with the Turkish, Ukrainian, belgian and Portuguese league. Above the Swiss and Dutch leagues

Thanks Select. I just spent a few hrs studying this and it's thoroughly enjoyable!! Interesting seeing how the numbers stack up compared to ppls perceptions.

As mentioned I don't think ppl realise how good Apoel and Sparta Prague are. These are very very competitive teams on a continental level. Odd that Oar' s Socceroos selection isnt being pushed more given he played 29 games for APOEL last yr.

Must be said that the Scottish league, it's league coefficient and its continental results have been undermined these past 8 odd years since rangers collapsed as well as their other big sides hibs hearts and Dundee United suffering relegation and financial troubles in this time also.

Thankfully hibs hearts and rangers have well and truly established themselves back in the SPL now though and are steady financially. This stability hopefully should see Scotland improve in the coming seasons

Re Mebrahtu I just researched Sparta Prague. Appears they only have 3 other forwards...

Benjamin tetteh a young Ghanaian who has arrived recently from standard liege.
Was loaned to another Czech team last season playing 9 games didn't score.

Matej Pulkrab who is another young guy who was loaned out last season to another Czech team scoring 10 in 27.

The only other player listed as a forward is the captain and czech national josef surral but he looks like hes an out an out winger/ wide midfielder.

From this it looks like Mebrahtu should be the starting striker or at least 2nd CF and perhaps starting on the wings. Sparta look very light up forward hence why they probably rushed to get Mebrahtu

And found another who looks like he was their starting CF last season.. Vaclav kadlec.  Only scored 6 in 26 though last season. Used to play for eintracht frankfurt as a squadie . Looks a shootout between him and Mebrahtu for starting CF though Mebrahtu can play on wings also. Either way looks like hes made a good club choice and should get games

I think the matter of them not being in UCL or UEL this season is why people aren't as fussed. Which is very understandable, but this a club that developed Thomas Rosicky, came back to finish his career there.

For league comparison...

Spain 1742
England 1722
Germany 1649
Italy 1647
France 1612
Russia 1576
Turkey 1481
Ukraine and Belgium 1471
Portugal 1464
Austria 1452
Swiss 1448
Greek 1411
Dutch 1400

Wow!! Dutch league is now 14th!! Seems to be huge disparity between top 4 clubs and everyone after too. I believe Han Berger now when he says the a league is the same as dutch outside the top 4. Scottish, Greek and portuguese leagues fallen long way from what they were turn of millennium. Ukrainian league fallen a bit too from what it was 5 to 10 yrs ago. Turkish, Austria, belgium, France and Russia the movers. Austrian league been pulled up by the money red bull pumped into Salzburg. They have a huge rating now.. For comparison would be fourth in bundesliga and 7th in epl.
This is why we should welcome Red bull into an Australian franchise, they will pull the league up. Somewhere with no attachment to football like gold coast would work I think.

Give it 5 years and Russia and France will catch up to Italy with the money they are spending

Correction Denmark 14th, Dutch league now 15th!!!!
Holland failed to qualify for world cup too meanwhile Denmark made 2nd round so goes to show you Dutch football not what it was.

Greek 1411
Dutch 1400

So if Ronaldo goes to Dutch league , does it become 4th or something? Maybe throw Modric or Bale in that equation , does it work then.

Don't remind of those dark days.

Going to say, wasn't ELO like one of the greatest OG memes 442 ever made?

If the ELO is accurate, it puts the quality of the Dutch and Scottish leagues into some perspective.
