Doesn't say in the article but I assume it'll be on in June/July 2023? It'd be madness to do it in January because of the weather and Chinese New Year is also in that period.

Forgot that the World Cup is going to be in November-December in 2022 so yeah has to be.

Is Qatar can commit flagrant human rights abuses against it's workers & kill some of them & be awarded a World Cup then China can host an Olympics and an Asian Cup whilst still committing human rights abuses.

That's interesting as according to wikipedia, Shanghai wasn't even mentioned as a possible host city. Didn't sound right to me though. Hopefully Xi'an is going to get some matches, love that place.

Stadium Facilities
The construction of ten (10) new professional stadiums are planned across the eight (8) cities and the stadiums proposed meet the pitch size requirement of 105 x 68 metres with natural grass pitches. Minor upgrades are required for the existing stadiums to meet the AFC’s standard including VIP seats and function rooms.
The building of new stadiums is considered as a risk for the competition, however, based on the process of current construction and documents received by the Inspection Team, the risk is considered Low.
All new stadiums have a fully functional back-up stadium as part of the bid proposal, which further minimises this risk. In general, the existing stadiums would have to be upgraded to meet the AFC’s requirements.
 Local Transport
The 12 stadiums are separated into individual cities across China PR. Most of the stadiums are accessible by well-developed public transportation such as railways, metro and bus stations with multiple stations within walking distance from the stadiums. The local transport services among the host cities are also reliable, ensuring convenience for the general public.
Conclusion
The bid proposed twelve (12) host cities and all twelve (12) stadiums meet and exceed the minimum requirements. Among existing stadiums and back-up venues, most are used for the AFC competitions such as AFC Champions League and national team matches. All new stadiums are planned as football specific stadiums. There should be no issue with facilities, but regular follow ups on the construction process shall be taken if China PR is selected as the host of the Asian Cup 2023.

This excerpt from the winning bid announcement has been the only glimpse of the new football-specific stadiums they say they'll build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIUOBemORzM

If they're going to complete them by December 2021 (I wouldn't believe that if it was anyone else but China) then I guess we'll be seeing something pretty soon.

CHINA TO HOST 2023 ASIAN CUP, MAKES STADIUM COMMITMENT
Posted by TheStadiumBusiness on 4th June 2019

China has today (Tuesday) been awarded hosting rights to the 2023 Asian Cup, with the national team football tournament to be staged in a number of new stadia in the country.

China will build new stadia in seven of the 12 planned host cities, with the country’s bid also including one back-up existing stadium in each host city. Each of the back-up options meet the latest international competition requirements set by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

China was the only remaining bidder for the tournament after the Korean Football Association withdrew its proposal last month. That came after Thailand and Indonesia had previously exited the race.

China has proposed Beijing, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Dalian, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Suzhou, Tianjin, Wuhan and Xi’an as host cities and the country plans on delivering new stadia by the end of 2021.

Minor renovation work is planned for the National Stadium in Beijing, along with the Tianjin Olympic Centre Stadium, Hangzhou Olympic Sports Expo Centre Main Stadium, Changsha’s Helong Sports Centre Stadium and Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Centre Stadium.

The final of the tournament will be held at Shanghai Pudong Football Stadium, which is currently under construction. The stadium will also host a semi-final along with Beijing’s National Stadium.

Other stadia that are currently under construction include Chongqing Liangjiang Football Match Centre Stadium, Dalian Professional Football Stadium, Wuhan Tazi Lake Football Stadium, Chengdu Fenghuangshan Sports Centre Professional Football Stadium, Shaanxi Province Stadium and Kunshan Sports Centre.

AFC president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, said: “This is an important moment for football in Asia and beyond. Football now has a chance to unlock the potential that exists in the world’s most populous country.

“We have seen the rise of the game under the direction and investment of the Chinese government. Now we have the chance, with this Asian Cup, to develop a true legacy for the global game. Hosting the AFC Asian Cup will provide China PR with great facilities and infrastructure to stage football tournaments.”

China hosted the Asian Cup for the first and only time back in 2004, when the event was a 16-team tournament. The event is now contested by 24 teams and this year’s tournament in the United Arab Emirates was won by Qatar.

Bit odd that the smallest stadium of the lot will be the host of the final, but quality over quantity I guess. It'll be a great size for SIPG afterwards.

My theory is that given the boutique venue for Shanghai and sticking with existing venues in Beijing and Guangzhou, I'm guessing the plan is to build brand spanking new 80k+ rectangular venues in those big three cities when the World Cup bid comes around.

Probably. But China can probably win the WC bid by promising to play the game on a cow paddock.
