The response on twitter has been, well less than positive.

Hopefully WSW and Sydney FC make the next three Grand Finals to make it a success.

I can see the idea behind this, but there is a distinct home team advantage when it's a competition that doesn't generate huge amounts of away fans.

I suppose it'll work out fine for them if it's only ever clubs from NSW (and potentially Victory) in the Grand Final. They'd have to be banking on the fact that other clubs won't be a chance of making it, as it'd be a bit embarrassing having an all interstate final with maybe 10,000 people attending.
Makes me wonder what kind of fan engagement there was prior to this decision being made (I assume there was none, as it's pretty clear fans are against the decision). Hopefully they have a good plan for that reported $10 million to make it all worth it.

I’ve come on this forum and defended the A-League and taken on the bitters. But this decision is indefensible. In 18 or so years of AL, this is the worst decision that has ever been made. I’m just floored.

Plenty of Kiwis in Sydney and they're meeting half way.

Western United vs Brisbane probably wouldn't look too good in Sydney. Hmmm. We have clarity where it is but it's a bit like having two English clubs for to Russia or Azerbaijan for a European final.

Agree and there has been some horrible ones.
I will no longer support the league
Just as they thought they might be able to capitalize on the socceroos success they find another way to screw loyal fans. DISGRACE

Reminds me of Afl grand finals always being played at MCG despite what teams are in it- but it kinda makes sense for them with the league starting in Vic and mostly Vic teams in it.

Non NSW clubs that make Grand Final will have to arrange ‘grand final trip package’ at a discount if the FA or Apl want decent attendances 🤷‍♂️

After the highs of the Socceroos, this is like going back 2 steps after going 2 steps forward.

Then again this is football in this country.

Why would they do this?

This is a weird decision. Geography & population density should always dictate where the big matches of the season are played. In the AFL it makes sense to play finals at The G as Victoria is AFL mad and 10 teams are from the state.

A-league has a tiny following by comparison and teams are essentially spread thin across the entire country. Could you imagine a Perth V Wellington Grand Final in Sydney?

I think Arnie wanted a "house" like the performance centre they are building at Latrobe for the Matilda's mate.... not a "Wembley".

Maybe Trashcan and Pehlivanis can come to some sort of arrangement :) hahahahahah

Maybe its because two "home" teams couldn't get 30k to final in Melbourne so the APL figured if the same final is played in Sydney the "Aleague supporters" will flock to the Mecca of football in Australia?

This is deplorable. Home grand finals ensure big crowds and great atmosphere to the team that has earned it.

Whatever money made from the agreement with Destinations NSW will be more than lost on reduced ticket sales and reduced publicity.

Seriously - how did the FA come up with this!

You’re not comparing apples with apples though.

You are talking about 100+ years of tradition. And no other stadium in the country has the capacity to host the AFL GF. I would support moving the AFL GF if another city had an 80,000+ stadium.
