I'm going to be the devil's advocate here.

This is possibly well-intentioned advice from Jeggo, but Kuol has demonstrated a lot more class as a forward already for the Socceroos in international football, than Jeggo has as a defensive  midfielder.

Jimmy's advice about Scotland may be sage - probably meaning the depth of competition for places in any squad in Scotland is tougher than Aus.

However, the point stands. Scotland  has not qualified for a World Cup for 6 successive campaigns. This time in the Qatar campaign  they were easily swept aside by Denmark, in the UEFA WC Qualifying group.

Comparatively, Australia drew with  Denmark in the 2018 WC in Russia, and beat them in the Qatar WC in 2022.

In the Qatar Socceroo squad that  reached the last 16, a third played in the A L and another third started their career in the A L.

Given the class I've seen that Kuol has already displayed   for the Socceroos, and recognised by far more renowned coaches than me, against infinitely  superior opposition to most Scottish clubs, it is a case of Kuol finding the right  environment, the right coach in the right league, with appropriate game  plans, for him to excel.

Scotland is not a successful paradigm for international  success. How many players ply their trade in Scotland, including the Old Firm, Rangers and Celtic, outside Aussies, who  have made  the last 16 of the Qatar WC? Or any WC? Did any other Scottish league players, outside Aussies, play in  Qatar, Russia, Brazil or South African WCs?

How many coaches in Scotland, outside Ange, have been senior or assistant coaches at any World Cups?

Sadly for Jeggo, he made one of the the most horrendous mistakes, due to lack of concentration, in the entire Qatar  WCQ campaign. He almost jumped at and handled a ball to  concede a soft, late penalty to China, when they were gone for all money. China  snatched a draw against the Socceroos, after being totally outplayed.

How could a  player, Jeggo, with all that supposed experience, make such a stupid mistake? It almost derailed Australia's entire WC campaign. Arnold never selected him again.

Jeggo might be doing well in Scotland ATM. However, he has been found wanting on a bigger stage when it really counted. Even if he hadn't made that mistake against China, Jeggo has been overtaken by a squadron of better, younger players in defensive midfield, screening the defence and starting offensive build  ups.

If Kuol has succeeded, admittedly in a few cameos for the Socceroos, against far higher quality opposition   than anything in Scotland, he can succeed in the right European club environment.

Please give the SPL bashing a rest. You have frequently displayed your knowledge of it is at best limited. It  is really not as poor as you oft times portray.

It is not a question of Scottish League bashing ( I apologise if it seems that way), but more that a number of mid ranked UEFA leagues  should not receive the exalted status they enjoy with many Aussie football fans - given their lower success at international level than the Socceroos.

Very few mid ranked UEFA league national teams where Aussies play club football ( Norway, Scotland, Greece, Austria, some big UEFA five second divs) have had the same recent success as the Socceroos. We've qualified for five WCs in succession. Only  9 -10 other teams have done this in the world.

The  Asian Confed has  been labelled a weak Confed by  by many Eurosnobs. Yet three times in WCQ, Australia has won sudden intercontinental sudden death play offs, in 3 out of 5 successful WCQ campaigns. Twice, in the last 2 WCQ campaigns, we have only been 5th best team in Asia.

Yet, twice the Socceroos  have beaten South American 5th placed teams and have once beaten a 4th placed North American team in 3 out of 5 of the last WCQ campaigns. After  Socceroos finished 11th in Qatar, we are not as bad as many Eurosnobs in Aus like to claim we are.

The last World Cup in Qatar shows a bit of a changing of the guard. That is, that a number of star UEFA national teams don't perform well outside Europe.

Thanks  for taking the time to list  the Scottish players involved in the last two WCs, Lurker. You certainly know Scottish football well - a lot better than me.

5 Scottish club players participated  in  Russia -  who  were not Socceroos.

6 Scottish club players participated in Qatar  - who  were not Socceroos.

A point I'm making, is that at least 7 players, all current Socceroos, currently ply their trade in the A L, and played, or were in the Socceroo squad, in Qatar.

This is slightly higher than non - Aussies playing in Scotland. Devoid of  Socceroos playing in Scotland, there are similar numbers,  or even less players playing in successful international football set ups in Scottish club football. 'Success' - defined by successful WC qualification.

Getting back to Kuol. Similar to Arzani, who demonstrated great talent  in Aussie  bench cameos in Russia, he has been recruited to Europe, specifically EPL, and Scotland.

It is an  inexact science, but maybe Kuol should have stayed in Aus longer, as Arzani ( albeit suffering a bad injury) has never lived up to his impressive performances in Russia. These two look like  our best ball players Aus has had in recent times.

I'm not sure a player who has probably been deemed a failure  in international football, Jeggo, should pontificate to a more talented player at international level, Kuol, about what is best for his future in Europe?

Scotland are no longer mid ranked. They are 9th in Europe. 12 of the latest squad of 23 play in the EPL.

This is possibly well-intentioned advice from Jeggo, but Kuol has demonstrated a lot more class as a forward already for the Socceroos in international football, than Jeggo has as a defensive  midfielder.

Way to misinterpret things.

Nobody, especially not Jeggo, is claiming he is a classier player than Kuol.

He is simply trying offer support/advice to help him navigate the cut throat nature of professional football in Europe as someone has built a career there for 10 years.

Think Jeggo was just trying to be helpful to Kuol who is inexperienced at club level in Europe. Many experienced players and managers will be seeing great potential in Kuol and want him to stay focused and literally just keep ‘grinding it out’ until he is well established at European club level.
Most if not all Socceroos supporters and even players want this kid to be our next standout player like another Kewell or Cahill - hopefully even better 🤞
