Need a total shakeup and only an overseas coach will do that I’d expect. 

Surely he’s next stop is coach overseas, I would like to see Arnie try he’s luck again overseas not sure what he can give anymore by coaching in Oz unless he wants to retire.

So it’s happened, in a way I’m not surprised the way he spoke in that press conference after the last game it looked to me he either lost the changing room or just ran out of ideas in the end.

I think he should walked away after the World Cup with he’s reputation intact and the way he turned into around after almost not qualifying for the World Cup and leave for greater pastures.
Maybe he will but the timing would have been a lot different after a successful tournament.

Instead the football started to get worse and no end in sight so either he adapts or leaves so I’m not surprised he leaves, he has taken us as far as he can so I can only thank him enough for what he’s done for Aus football.
Yes he’s not perfect but no one is and he made Aus football proud especially that unforgettable World Cup campaign which was very inspiring.

Time for a new change and new era for the national, team now it’s up to the FA to get it right Ernie Merrick who has got a big job on he’s hands along with JJ they got to get it right.

The sadness in his face saying goodbye that way. You can also see the brokenness. He needs mass stress reduction and having all that family return to Australia will do that. Hopefully he can go and watch games for fun. Maybe a year later he'll be back in some scouting or youth role.

yep tbh, I felt for him clutching what to say after the Indo game, he was spent actually.
Despite my negatives towards his coaching approach over the years incl back in SFC days when I was following it closer I've watched him since he was in the local game and putting on the green and gold.
He wasn't very gifted but he always put in just as his coaching and passion for the game.
He's burnt out you could see it and wish him the best to get back enjoy life away from reviews countless hours on calls and travelling.
Time for family your at a great age to enjoy.

Perfect storm/timing really. The pressure and helpless situation showed the strain on Arnold and his health. Add Sainsbury moving back, who is married to his daughter and brings his grand children back to Australia, it seems the perfect time to depart and get healthy again with family away from the game.

This is a great opportunity to refresh the national team. I feel Arnold had enough self awareness to know he had to leave, I just wish this had happened post WC or AC. 

I hope we can convince Muscat to come. He knows Asian football winning the league in Australia, Japan and China. He knows Australian football and what makes it tick. He balances attack and defence. 

I'm not sure the an overseas coach willing to come to us would be as good, unless we get lucky.

well if this is so hope its not the 3 mentioned in earlier posts, same ol same ol recycle and rinse, the easy short term solution in hope just to qualify.
We need a worldly coach moving forward, not this usual rhetoric of the past, an Aussie knows our Aussie ways, I get that but we need to evolve with a coach of experience at the helm for the type of game and inteligence our players are being coached in OS Clubland.
Play players where they fit - not square pegs in round holes as well.

He could have sat on the pine and picked up a salary until given the heave ho, so going early and on his terms is a blessing for us and the team's chances.
