Looks like the old dogs are at it again. Its going to be a great week in the VPL. It would be great if the crowds stay off the pitch this time. Thats a big big IF

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Victorian Premier League Round Seven Preview?
A TRADITIONAL and fierce rivalry will intensify when Melbourne Knights host South Melbourne in round seven of the Victorian Premier League on Sunday.

Have your say.

 Irony much. I wasn't talking about any club I was talking about you. Your agenda against South Melbourne is quite pathetic. The club has done their utmost to become the best run club below te A-League and also better run than a few HAL clubs and have condemned what happened last weekend. They in no way shyed away from punishing the idiots and dealt with it professionally and perfectly.

I don't know wether you have a problem with South Melbourne the club or teams with an ethnic history in general but it realt is getting a bit old and stale. You can't just fling shit at state league clus and then complain when they fling it back. I suggest you take a look at Benjamins sig. A lot of people on here on both sides could learn a lot from it. The best way forward for football in this country is for old and new to stand side by side united by one undying common love-football. Doesn't matter what race or age we should stop butting heads and stop with the racist agendas on both sides and grow the fuck up. It's time for us to take a stand together and show that football supporters in this country are united and that football the greatest game on the planet is here to stay.

To be honest SydCro I'm more nervous about this weekend than I have been for a long long time. I've no expectation of any major incident, but we saw last week that it only takes a tiny incident involving a couple of nuggets and things get blown way out of proportion - and this one is always a little 'heated'.

Personally I don't think there will be any problems. The SMFC HUFC has been fueled a little bit more lately with internet chatter.

Besides the MK fence is really high to climb.:d

Melbourne Knights 0-1 South Melbourne

our unbeaten run continues, Joe Keenan with a beautiful curling left foot shot into the far post was enough to give South the 3 points, very entertaining match which was dominated by South for the majority, Knights were really out of sorts today, they had a couple of decent moments in the last 15 but south absolutely butchered some chances to kill off the game in the first 75 minutes, even at the end when knights were pushing players forward south failed to capitalise on the counter.

crowd would have been about 2,000, nice atmosphere, no broken fences or pitch invasions, just a good solid entertaining derby.

South off to take on hume city next sunday for the anzac day cup, should be another cracker, who could forget that pitch invasion when coveny nodded in his 100th goal last year...wont be happening this time:lol:

Only problem with the side this year seems to be a lack of a domineering central striker... I keep wondering if Coveny might pull on his boots again.

well we have the best midfield in the state by a long way, Fernando, Rechia, Vasilevski, Keenan is about as good as a midfield as you can get probably outside the A league, all the dominance and creativity doesnt translate on the scoreboard because we lack a striker, all South needs is someone to sit in the box and finish off all the good work thats done up the field...it can even be someone that doesnt even run or chase! just sit in the box and knock em in.

I'll get my boots.

EDIT - for what it's worth, I think we need someone with a little more presence up front, someone who can hold the ball up whilst that midfield pushes up around him (especially as Covs seems intent on the 4-5-1 formation). A 'fox in the box' would be great, but a target man also provides you with that speedy outball when the close passing stuff isn't working.

Isn't that the role of Gianni De Nittis? Not sure how well he does it but he is ahead of Joseph Youssef and Yusuf Yusuf.

de nittis doesnt hold the ball up well and the truth is he was a better finisher 4 years ago, definately gone downhill, joe youssef has just come back from injury he should start next week, yusuf is mainly used as an impact player off the bench with about 15-20 minutes to go when the opposition tires.

I think with either De Nittis / Youssef as main man and the likes of De Moraes, Vasilevski and Keenan around as one of the guys pointed out above South is a force.

But De Moraes (five goals) out of the 10 South have scored. Add in Vasilevski's two and that's 7 out of 10 excluding the draw with Heidelberg scored by two players.

Big game this weekend, Hume has plenty of injuries but are always going to be tough to beat.
