as far as i'm aware this should be a one match suspension. The pdf available at fifa.com titled: "FIFA World Cup 2010 South Afica - Regulations" has the following law under the heading "Disciplinary Matters"
1. Disciplinary incidents are dealt with in compliance with the FIFA Disciplinary Code in force and all relevant circulars and directives, with which the participating member associations undertake to comply.

and then from the "FIFA Disciplinary Code" also taken from Fifa.com. Under article 18 "Expulsion"
4. An expulsion automatically incurs suspension from the subsequent match, even if imposed in a match that is later abandoned and/or annulled. The Disciplinary Committee may extend the duration of the suspension.

So the Disciplinary Committee would have to have some reason to extend Tim's one-match ban, which I can't see happening.

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Red Card D-Day For Cahill?
TODAY is D-Day for Socceroo star Tim Cahill as he will find out whether he receives a one or two-match ban for his red card against Germany.

Have your say.

I feel its only going to be a 1 match ban and even if its a consolation point come the serbian game, I do hope Cahill gets to play in it.

Is there any possibility that the descision can be given with 0 weeks suspended and that the red card was incorrect??

Doubtful, and I hope not.

I don't agree with the red card, but having a player get the red card effectively overturned sets a precedent that FIFA simply will not want.

Well, I think he got sent off for "Serious Foul Play", which I guess is correct.

Cahill did slide in with two feet and took the other player out, even though he was trying to stop the tackle part way through with his momentum just taking him through the player.

The ref made no technical errors, so the red has to stay.

Thing is, it could also well have been a yellow for another ref.

As others have said, the ref probably had enough of his mouthing off, so a red seemed like the right thing for the ref.

im confused the subheading on the main page says 'to decide whether cahills world cup is already over'? If he gets the two game penalty(worst case scenario) he will still be able to play in the round of 16, quarters, semi and final! lets not give up after one game

Im secretly hoping FIFA come out and say he is free to play. Imagine what a boost that would be to the team. It would breath new life into the team! But highly unlikely. 99% he will get one game, 0.9%m two games, 0.1% 0 games
