So SSGs (Small Sided Games) started last saturday - fewer players, more touches, less focus on results, better for player develoment....?
Well a 4 aside U7A game saw a "must win" coach play a very deep sweeper (virtually GK) lumping long balls, a striker sitting very close to the opposition goal who picked up the sweeper's lumps & shot from point blank & the other 2 players shot from over half way as soon as they got the ball.
The whole NDP (National Development Plan)& SSG strategy is really sorting people out, but how do we get rid of the Philistines?

In English please? :P

I know im a n00b, but can someone tell me what SSG and NDP mean?

Though, it sounds like at that age passing is being emphasised. I remember when I played U7s, we were tackling our own players for the damn ball  Maybe I was just in a retarded league?

I have edited for you - see above.
The National Development Plan is the strategy that will result in us eventually winning the WC & make junior players into lifelong fans so that we get 45000 fans to every A league game. FFA website has links to the 2 relevant documents
How can 3661 posts be a n00b?
Passing should not be encouraged (nor discouraged either) but it is important that players just play.
I love the premise that players U8 years see a game as 3 sides, the opposition, their own team & themself..& I'm not going to give the ball away I wanna keep it for myself! So if a very young player is keen enough to tackle his own team well good on him.

well they tried to get rid of the competitive aspect in those gams bu taking out the storing of results/ladders etc, but a lot of ‘old school’ coachers will still have the same mentality of winning at all cost’s, I belive this type of coach will soon disapper as more and more training is giving to these youth coachers by the federations/football nsw, im even going to a coaching session today aimed at under 6 – under 12’s coachers and its being held by frank farina, this will take time to get used to it’s a whole new ball game so you will find along the way people like this,

Yeah I think it will take a year or 2 before these father coaches living vicariously through their 7yo children have gone.

U6 4 V 4 no GK 30m x 20m 1/8 field approx
U7 & U8 5 V 5 no GK 30m x 20m
U9 & U10 7 V 7 GK 40m x 30m
U11 & U12 9 V 9 GK 60m x 40m 1/2 field approx
the field sizes allow for ease on reconfiguration of fields - it is quite a task.
Most clubs have had a 50% increase in number of teams because of the fewer players in each team so there needs to be more fields set up, but then there are more kids playing at any one time than in the previous Rooball configurations.
There was even talk that once a goal is scored both sides should change their player in goals.
So back to my original post - a kid with a whopping roost can shoot from near his own goal....if his coach has a penis on his head.
