. What a legend.

Still can't believe it. People can bitch about how little possession we had, or whatever. I don't care. Barcelona brought on David Villa in the 2nd half. He cost more than our entire starting XI, Subs, and probably our whole squad combined.

It's just a monumental effort to do what we did, and to do it one the 125th anniversary (Close enough), is just such a proud thing for the club. That was an effort worthy of all the great names that have taken part in our history, and one that will probably never be forgotten.

The dude in the Barca shirt looks like he has one massive head and one big arm, but very small body.

No being funny funky, but why did they celebrate their centenary in 1988 and claim to be league champions in 1988, the year of their centenary ? Something don't add up. They also have 1888 on the badge.( or they did in 1988 )

You'll have to ask the club. Maybe the people in charge of the club at the time decided to take it from the first game. That was up to them. But it doesnt' change the fact that the club was formed in 1887, on November 6th, hence the big celebrations for our 125th anniversary, that have been happening all season.

Rod Stewart is crying cause he loves the club:p.

The 1888 is indeed to commemorate the date of their first competitive game.

I know, but what Sutho was asking is, why did we have our centenary celebrations in 1988, if we were formed in 1887, which is what we're celebrating the 125th anniversary of atm. He makes a fair point, But I'm assuming it's just a difference in opinion of what to celebrate from the higher ups of the club. The 80's administration decided that they would celebrate the Centenary from the first game played, the current admin decided to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the club being formed. Neither are wrong in what they did.

The centenary was celebrated on the 100th anniversary of them playing their first match against Rangers (May 28th IIRC). It's not a difficult concept to grasp - unless you're a rangers fan apparently.

Every other club have their " birthday's " based on the year they were formed, hence your beloved Liverpool celebrated their centenary in 1992, 100 years after they were formed ! BTW will they have another 125 th next year, even though they celebrated nothing in 1987 ?

This week Celtic are commemorating the 125th anniversary of the date the club was founded. That's all there is to it. If they want to celebrate the 125th anniversary of their first competitive game next season, what's it to you?

Liverpool played their first game in the same year that they were founded, so your point is moot.

You are now the CFC historian, with your classic " what' s it to you " and " that's all their is to it " ?
In every official Celtic publication , 1888 is the only year they mention, try reading some of it, it may enlighten you a wee bit ?
Why no celebration in 1987 ? ( you failed to answer this in your last reply )
95% of tims I know are a little confused as well as to why this is happening.

Given that these are actual textbooks you'll have to forgive me for refencing cite notes, but wrong and wrong again.

I have no idea why they didn't commemorate the anniversary in 1987. Given that I wasn't born until 1989 I've had pretty limited opportunities to ask the board what was going through their heads at the time.

The club was founded in a charity meeting to stimulate the area of Glasgow - much like Hibs had done in Edinburgh a few years earlier - on Nov 6th 1887. This is an indisputable fact.

The club played their first competitive match on May 28th 1888 against Rangers. This is an indisputable fact.

These are two separate events in separate years that Celtic are obviously choosing to mark separately.

Why are you arguing? Other than to look like a fool.

Alright, I wanna get this thread running again .

Won 1-0 in the Cup replay against Arbroath this morning. Adam Matthews scored a cracker. Just amazing the talent we have at Full Back right now. Matthews, Lustig, Izzy are all in top form. It's a pitty one of them has to miss out.

back from an absolutely freezing night in arbroath. annoyed that it was only 1-0 but Arbroath played out of their skin. Must be said though that it was some of the most fun i've had in years standing in actual terraces again in a packed out stadium of 5k.

On that note, Sounds like we're fully behind converting part of Celtic Park into a Standing Zone.
