+xNot sure why we have re signed Dagostino when he offered absolutely nothing last season.Holman could potentially be a decent re signing assuming that he doesn't start. If he is our starting CAM though, god help us. Assume no offers anywhere else and was willing to stay for minimum wage to make up squad numbers.

I suppose we got him on the cheap but in my opinion he was our worst offensive player last season.

It's probably not fair to assess any youngsters up front last season, based on the dross served up from midfield.

Agreed, D'Agostino just needs more game time, he does have a great shot on him though with the other young talented fella coming in, Wenzel-Halls, I'm not sure who Aloisi will pick. https://youtu.be/tFIlHJ54HYM?t=176

Strikers have pulled the pin on their A League bid. I think BCFC had the better proposal anyway tbh.

Thanks Waz. A much better picture than this time last year. Looking good for the season ahead. I'm very keen on seeing Taggart getting a prolonged run as striker and seeing how many goals he can get in a proper season as the No. 1 striker.

@ footballkingz Yeah, much better than last year. Good to see. The full list (for all clubs) is here: https://www.a-league.com.au/news/aleague-transfer-news-ins-outs-signings-done-dealsFor Roar when you add in the new Dane, a new AM and a new visa-marquee DM it’s a really strong picture. Unbelievably they’re back in training TWO weeks today with at least twenty contracted players

I still don't think that is really a squad that challenges for silverware. Two big ins with a 6 and 10 could change that but. Young (White) Hingert (Ingham) - Papa (Pepper) - LDV (Bowles) - OToole (??) TK (Caletti) - New 6 (McKay) Eric (Henrique, Leck) - New 10 (Holman, Akbari) - Mikkelsen (Brady) Taggart (DWH, Daggers) Without those two big new signings it just feels like we are going to see Holman and McKay run around like headless chooks again but

@ BrissyRoo
Agree with you there. Two decent signings putting Mackay/Holman to the bench transforms that starting XI and puts genuine depth on the bench. Add Ricky on that bench plus a defender (Franjic??) and it’s really pretty good.
Can it win silverware? Absolutely imo!
Will it win silverware? That’s down to Aloisi.

Also BrissyRoo - I’d take Brady out and add in Leck. I think Brady has run his race at Roar.

Yea, that bench would be really solid. Wenzell-Halls, Henrique, Caletti/Holman/Mckay, Franjic, White Whats the word on Franjic anyway?

Not a huge fan of having a 33, 34 and 35 year old on the bench when there are only 4 spots. Murders any chance of developing a young kid who we will need next season after they retire.

Kind of stuffed either way to be honest, if Mckay and Holman are not in the starting 11 they will be on the bench and vice versa. I would rather have Caletti coming on instead of Mckay for sure as he deserves a proper shot for a extended period of time, just a shame he got injured last season. Other than that when you look at Wenzell-Halls, Henrique, Holman and Franjic they can all score goals which is something you need off the bench though Wenzell-Halls is untested at this level yet.

For the bench, I'd like to see White, Bowles, Caletti, Holman and Wenzell-Halls. What I think we will see is White, Bowles, McKay, Holman and Henrique.

What we need is Aloisi to manage the squad properly and not just pick oldest/most experienced/favourites every time (Theo over Young at the seasons start was a good example).
It’s not about development, players like Taggart will be gone the following season if they’re any good, it’s about winning the cup, plate and title if possible.
For crying out loud, if SFC can win with Carney and Simon in the squad Holman and Mackay shouldn’t hold us back lol.

Oh ok, so they are looking to keep Franjic, yea I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with that sub lineup which would mean the young players wont get a chance unless Holman and Mckay get injured which is a shame for the young lads. My hope is Aloisi uses some common sense and rotates the young lads in and out to give them a shot and transition them for the season after.

I reckon Franjic only gets a gig if they fail with Nigro - they both offer the same thing really. I'd rather Nigro because he will get betterand will push Jack for a starting spot.

@ BrissyRoo
All quite on the rumour front I’m afraid. Most of the players, coaches and a lot of the staff are away I guess so quiet-as.
DDS should’ve signed for someone by now imo, probably means his agent is playing hard-ball.
On Nigro v Franjic, I’d prefer Nigro over Franjic but don’t lose any sleep if we sign Franjic again. Both offer different things, ironically Ivan is the better long term prospect imo
