It is all very confusing.

Nick Meredith says on Twitter "Plenty will disagree but I believe he’s an outstanding coach"

What are they seeing that we are not ? I wonder what the general cohort of Roar players really think of him and Ross ?
We supporters can only judge by what happens on the field.

JA has his own team ...picked by him.
They are playing his style ..whatever that is .
However we are leaking goals for fun . We do indeed simply pass the ball around aimlessly until (usually a back ) someone lumps it forward for the slowest player on the field to chase. We have very few attacking moves through midfield .
We have very little in attack .
and what was the attitude (or lack of) about last night ????
Many of us supporters have played football and it appears to many I speak with that the team has no discernible system of play or plan . It appears as though JA says " Go out and enjoy yourselves lads...do whatever works for you "
Top teams always play to a system ....and that doesn't stop individuals still varying it occasionally and creating something clever and wonderful..it just gives the team a foundation to go back to when play breaks down .It also makes it easier to bring in young players if they can rely on a plan to play to.
JA seems to have supporters in the media (because he was a great player and is nice bloke maybe ?) but all his promises and excuses have amounted to nothing .
Worst of all...he never takes responsibility... always an excuse....last night it was the players ... (you know ...the ones HE recruited !)

on the shirt number issue ...why did he single out Bautheac ? Both Franjic and Young had numbers falling off as well. If he was consistent he should have sent all three off. He obviously sent Eric off and then realized the others also had number issues and if he sent them all off the game would be even more of a farce than the Roar had already made it .
I doubt the ref has ever confronted that issue before.

Waz it's like deja vu. I remember watching preseason with Heart and hearing Aloisi constantly instruct Patrick Gerhardt to hoof the ball from right back to the opposite winger. Which resulted in the ball being lost. It's like it was yesterday.

Nailed it, it is so unbelievable that I wonder if this is the first time it has even happened in a professional league/tournament.

They shouldn't have let Eric back on and should have taken the other players off as well, but in saying that I didn't really know the rules on this type of unique situation.

I really feel sorry for Eric, just embarrassing for him if I was him I would be telling my agent to find a way to get me the hell out of here pronto.

The only way you can say that JA is a good coach is if he has great tactical ideas but has absolutely fuck all ability to communicate it to his players, which is literally half of what coaching is.


He should probably stick to being a pundit or drop to NPL until he learns how to actually coach his players.

So word going around is the players were ironing on the numbers before the game.

Just because JA is a nice bloke doesnt make him a good coach and just because he can analyse a game doesnt mean he can coach players or pick players to play to a system.
A coach can only be judged by what is happening on the field and three years and 4mill says he is doing badly.

Brisbane Roar are a disgrace, JA is a bigger disgrace. It's time to fold this shambles of a club and give the licence to a club that has some inkling of self-respect.

It was amature hour, but is is a stupid rule.  

in rugby,  jerseys get ripped or bloodied all the time,  you are able to just put on a different shirt and the match officials just make a note on their team sheets with the new number.  takes 2 seconds and lets the game flow.  having such a rigid rule is a game administration issue as much as anything..

On the roar,  JA has done reasonable for 2 seasons,  but the squad he assembled this season is a joke,  i have said let him see out the year,  but now i'm not so sure he is the right man to rebuild , that needs to start now..  

question is, what managers are available with any aleague experience (not including managers BNE has already sacked in the past).

As far as I know, as long as the Ref knows that the guy having to wear a bright pink polka dot tutu, is #22 on the teamsheet, there shouldn't be a problem

Happy to be corrected but I can't find anything in the regulations that dictates a player isn't allowed on.

Local League refs will have dealt with this issue many a time.

Can we swap coaches with Ceres Negros?
If we arent going to get a foreign coach ,i would prefer giving a newby with a good track record a go.I doubt there will be a dearth of applicants if we have a world wide search.Lol.

Would really like to see an end to the Aussie coach merry-go-round. A coach who's doing well at NPL has to be given a chance eventually. Or even that Auckland City guy we were linked with before Aloisi.

We are a professional club, yet in the time added on, we committed 3 (at least, just remember the 3), including one for which we got a card. Just allows Ceres to take all the time in the world to restart play.

On the weekend, a team (forget which) was behind and the commentators were saying (and it could be heard on the TV) about the team behind were encouraging each other NOT TO FOUL! Basics, yet ROAR Fall down on the basics, time and time again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can of white paint would have fixed the number problem.... line marker or go to the janitors cupboard.

There was also a number on the front of each shirt so no one was actually numberless .....but yeah a black nikko pen would have also done the trick better

Also noticed that 5 mins extra time was announced . Ceres did a sub in extra time but the whistle was blown right on 5 mins  . That sub took at least 30 secs ...why wasn't it added on ? Anyone know the rule here ?

Pretty much. There are lots of rules the refs don't enforce: people encroaching during pens, keepers off their lines during pens, players walking throw ins up the field, players kicking the ball away, etc.

That was my understanding too. I mean think about every time that an outfield player has had to replace a keeper because the keeper got injured or sent off when the team had no subs. The outfield player just wears the reserve keepers jersey. 

And if the rules were as they were enforced by the ref last night: if a player bleeds on his jersey, replaces it with his back up jersey and then bleeds on that, is he just not allowed on the field for the rest of the game? No, he puts on another shirt with no name on it and the ref records the number change and the game carries on. I can't recall specifics, but I remember players changing numbers in the past and there was no issue.


The Roar should be fined for the mess with the shirts, but I don't see how the refs can't be in trouble for how they mishandled it.

Participating Players each allocated a playing number between 1 and 99.

24.2.1. Each Participating Club shall register minimum three (3) Participating Players
as goalkeepers, regardless of the squad size registered. Playing number 1
shall be reserved for a goalkeeper.

24.2.2. Throughout the Competition, each Participating Player shall wear the same
playing number allocated during their first registration. Participating Players
registered as replacements (cf Article 24.4) may only be allocated a new
playing number.
