+x+x+x+x+xon the shirt number issue ...why did he single out Bautheac ? Both Franjic and Young had numbers falling off as well. If he was consistent he should have sent all three off. He obviously sent Eric off and then realized the others also had number issues and if he sent them all off the game would be even more of a farce than the Roar had already made it . I doubt the ref has ever confronted that issue before. Nailed it, it is so unbelievable that I wonder if this is the first time it has even happened in a professional league/tournament. They shouldn't have let Eric back on and should have taken the other players off as well, but in saying that I didn't really know the rules on this type of unique situation. I really feel sorry for Eric, just embarrassing for him if I was him I would be telling my agent to find a way to get me the hell out of here pronto. As far as I know, as long as the Ref knows that the guy having to wear a bright pink polka dot tutu, is #22 on the teamsheet, there shouldn't be a problem Happy to be corrected but I can't find anything in the regulations that dictates a player isn't allowed on. Local League refs will have dealt with this issue many a time. That was my understanding too. I mean think about every time that an outfield player has had to replace a keeper because the keeper got injured or sent off when the team had no subs. The outfield player just wears the reserve keepers jersey. And if the rules were as they were enforced by the ref last night: if a player bleeds on his jersey, replaces it with his back up jersey and then bleeds on that, is he just not allowed on the field for the rest of the game? No, he puts on another shirt with no name on it and the ref records the number change and the game carries on. I can't recall specifics, but I remember players changing numbers in the past and there was no issue. The Roar should be fined for the mess with the shirts, but I don't see how the refs can't be in trouble for how they mishandled it. 24.2.2. Throughout the Competition, each Participating Player shall wear the same playing number allocated during their first registration. Participating Players registered as replacements (cf Article 24.4) may only be allocated a new playing number. So for each outfield player, clubs must have a spare keeper's jersey with their number, just in case they have to replace an injured keeper?

+x+x+xAlso noticed that 5 mins extra time was announced . Ceres did a sub in extra time but the whistle was blown right on 5 mins . That sub took at least 30 secs ...why wasn't it added on ? Anyone know the rule here ? I think by the book they should add it on but in practice they very rarely do. so they just do as they please ? Time added on is a minimum. Unfortunately refs rarely add extra. (As they should when subs take 90 seconds to get off the field in time added on.) I really wish they'd enforce this to stop parasitic, cynical managers bringing players on with 2 minutes to go to wind down the clock.

Weird, but the Forum software is only allowing me to reply to some posts. Anyone else getting that ? Re 24.2.2 That's just to stop squads/cards/disqualifications etc in a far flung international comp being fucked with, not for the refereeing of individual games.

+xNo. Further up in those regs it says '1' is reserved for the GK. [/quote] Unless the reserve keeper comes on .....? So if I replace the reserve keeper due to injury, do I wear: a. '1', b. the reserve keeper' number, or c. any other number so long as it's a keeper's jersey?

Stop the clock whenever the ball is not in play 2. Stop the clock for injuries, cards and substitutions. This would fix 90% of timewasting

Arghh, the media are all focussing in the wrong area.
It …. is ….. not ….. about ….. a ….. wardrobe malfunction.
An embarrassing look yes but it’s happened before, even at international level where someone used a marker pen to put the number back on, so suck it up Australia.
It IS though about the why and the how an Australian professional team can put in an inept and unacceptable performance, and how and why it mirrors the stuff they’ve been doing in the HAL.
The kit malfunction? Meh, a junior employee was too lazy to drive to football shack as usual and get the experts to do it so instead did it himself. Harsh on Craig if he gets sacked for that while John gets a vote of confidence for his work.

Agree waz Thing that get me in all of this though is that we still put 11 professional football players out there , many are out of contract this year , surely there has to be something in each individual to say “ we need to win or else I don’t get resigned “ ? I know it’s easy to blame the coach but sometimes the senior players in particular must take ownership .

The only response to going behind was a series of undisciplined tackles, including by the most experienced players. This is typically the response you get from old guys playing amateur football when they realise the only thing they have left is the ability to commit cynical fouls.

There's nothing wrong with having a Maccarone in a team.He brings a level of skill and experience no one in Australia has...and he has shown he can put goals away if he gets the service. However a player like him needs younger legs around him to make up for his lack of running. The Roar does not have that. Holman is handy as an impact player but is also old . We need some solid midfielders in the 25-30 age group . McKay appears to have gone on one season too long and Caletti is still too young and inexperienced to do it on his own . Franjic is an improvement, and if Kristensen gets his fitness and confidence back he will be good again (don't think he is past it yet) but we need two solid workhorse types (with some talent and skill (unlike Pepper and Oxborrow).

it’s an interesting thought but nah, they’re not playing well because they’re not happy. It’s just like any workplace - you get a dickhead boss who asks you to do shit work and your head goes down.

I would love to know what the general feelings are amongst the players . FBK loves JA but he also gets played every week why wouldn't he ? Wonder what others think ? I heard only a few weeks ago from an ex A-League player, who is now playing in Asia, that at least one regular player (who is his mate) doesn't think much of the Aloisi's. Anyone else heard any players or staff views ?

Agree, Aloisi is useless and was probably lucky that last 2 seasons had the core of the title winning squad help mask over his deficiencies. This season he has recruited badly and hasnt been able to get the team to click so his real capabilities are showing through.

The ones who are loving Aloisi are the ones who would likely not get a contract with another team due to their age or being well past their prime. I mainly remember FBK and Mckay sticking up for Aloisi, who both are 35, both will be 36 next season. FBK could probably still get another contract with another A-League team if he is lucky but McKay will be praying to Jesus that Aloisi still hangs around.

Mckay I can understand but FBK hardly set the HAL alight last season and the fact MV released him should be enough of a warning sign to say he is past his prime. If you were trying to improve your squad why would you sign him?

I didn't want to say anything bad about FBK, he has been one of the better players this season for Brisbane but that is not saying much, he has been very hot and cold for my liking but at least he showed hunger on the field.

Anyone check out todays article in the Courier mail? It expanded a little on Moore and the kit debacle, Moore said he had been blamed for the shambolic kit debacle etc etc but that is despite kit duties not being part of a football directors job description. He is understood to be seeking legal advice, so I am assuming he will be going for those 3 months pay and defamation? It feels like he is being used as a easy scapegoat so if true he is well within in his right to do so. I mean this has got a lot of publicity and could affect his next job
Also funny that the Roar refused to say why they didn't have a back up jersey, I mean why refuse?

+xThe only response to going behind was a series of undisciplined tackles, including by the most experienced players. This is typically the response you get from old guys playing amateur football when they realise the only thing they have left is the ability to commit cynical fouls. I would add one critical point though about the game: the ref let far too many professional, cynical fouls go and more of them were from the visitors - right from the start of the game. He didn't even award a free kick for many blatant ones, like the crash tackle from behind as we were mounting a promising attack near the end then awarding a free kick right up the other end from the subsequent play, or Beautheac trying to run with his shirt being stretched back in plain sight without even a 'play on' call. As one of the 1200 we know the frustration we felt at the game over what was being allowed, and we are not the ones out there playing against it. But it is not just that ref obviously. I hate the ill-discipline and stupid fouls we have been committing lately, but I also see it as a reaction to how much the professional foul has been adopted by teams and encouraged by officials across our league. A player used to 'take one for the team' when it mattered, and accept the card that followed. Now it is just a free kick and I would put that squarely up as the main reason for so much of the deterioration of our game. A team that plays fair and is worth watching by neutrals (not us anymore) cannot compete with a team that fouls their opposition in their defensive third in order to organise their defence. On top of all the other crap our team has had to put up with, I see many of our 'old hands' trying to play with teamwork and experience, only to have promising attacks thwarted by professional fouls, and it seems the only recourse they have without any support from officials is to stupidly fight back. We are playing bad, lazy, disjointed football, we are lacking creativity and drive, and we are playing dirty - on top of, or as a result of, everything else that is going down the crapper at our club - but when professional fouls do not result in the mandatory card, frustration and reaction follows. For a team like ours without dominant or effective set plays, free kicks conceded in place of a promising open attack leave our players feeling nasty and even more useless.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

@RIMB, you probably aren’t far from the truth there. But it becomes a downward spiral ... once the oppposition senses that you can be knocked off your game with a few fouls, I can guarantee it won’t make them less likely to foul you. Trouble is, our captain is often the first person to get frustrated and retaliate - not the best example.

There’s been a lot of talk about the change in culture at the club, on and off the field, and fouls are as good an example as any. We’re bottom or near bottom of the fair play league and we’re heading for a record season in terms of matches missed through suspension.
Ross Aloisi leads the way off the pitch with some shocking behaviour and the fact he’s at the club despite all this tells you what the culture has become.
And it matters because our culture was always a positive one, in the way we played and the attitude to the game (we were never saints mind you) and comebacks were routine as was scoring immediately after the opposition scored. But now if we’re 2-0 down it’s a loss in the bag and you can see it in the players body language.
The Ref on Tuesday night was a joke, but they often are in the ACL when it’s a big nation v smaller nation, but that wasn’t the reason we lost although our players failed to play to the referee even if they didn’t like it
