Considering Skapetis left and there is no backup for Maccarrone.Henrique would be good value.Plus he knows how to score.
@Waz,its nice to wax on about how good Roar's youth development is.But what evidence do you have that it still is good? I havent seen any standout youth come through since Ange's reign. Borrello was from Ange's era. Caletti was brought in from NTC. O'Toole was brought in from Adelaide. D'Agostino from NCO. D.Ingham from Olympic 2015. Leck was brought in from GC in 2015.
Compare that to other teams .Like Adelaide or MC or CCM.I dont see standout development at Roar anymore. What is happening at youth league level doesn't inspire confidence either.

@ crimsoncrusoe
That’s the point. There is no evidence that youth development is working today. That comes in 2 years when you see who breaks through and who doesn’t.
And all A League teams pick players up at age 16, that’s the system across Australia (until last month when A League academies were introduced) so the term youth “development” is really 16+.
And clubs treat it differently. Roar for example call their’s an U19 team while Adelaide U20. You’re gone a year quicker in Brisbane.
I watched a fair bit of NPL last year when Roar were getting thumped regularly, it was ugly, but they had a lot of 25 year old kids trialing last year and they weren’t afraid to play them because they weren’t focussed on results.
All I’m saying is it’s wrong to look at the NYL ladder and say Roars youth development is broken.
Whether it is working is a debate for another day. In about two years.

@waz,you are the eternal optimist,i am more a realist. I guess my worry is if the senior team is clueless about how they are supposed to play, the coach is cluless about how he wants to play or lacks the ability to coach a successful team, the senior team concedes more than two goals a game for two seasons, the coach can't recruit players to play his system ,the coach skews his recruitment to old players......Why would anyone believe quality youth will be identified and taught better than at other clubs? How do you measure the metrics if not by performances on the field? I go on performance, thats how i knew this year would be rubbish for the senior squad. The NYL is a mickey mouse 8week competition. If it's not treated as a measure of what you have taught young players in npl, what is? If the Roar coaching philosophy is to not take competitions seriously, then why compete just pack up your bags and go. FFA Cup,ACL,NYL all not treated seriously.WTF? Thank god for the womens team.I guess its one advantage of being snubbed by the men. They dont have the same culture.Once the best now the worst or on par with WP.

@ crimsoncrusoe
I’m neither being optimistic nor pessimistic. I’m just being realistic.
If you care about the results, and the ladder position, then you select the best side to win the game every week. You don’t try people out of position, you don’t try anything new you just send teams out to win a game.
If you care about development the result is secondary.
You don’t pick the best team to win you pick players that need development, that might mean dropping O’Toole because you want to give a trial to a fifteen year old kid to see whether he’s worth giving an extended run next season; you might switch the RB to LB for a couple of games to see how he handles being out of position, and you experiment with the formation because you want to have an extra midfielder in there to see how he goes, or you switch a young right winger to play right back because you think he might be better there. Or you stop playing a particular 19 year old player because you’ve decided he don’t make it at A League level and he’s going to get cut anyway so you start selecting a 16 year old instead.
I don’t know about this season but all the above happened last year. Youth Development is like an R&D lab but you don’t experiment if you want to win a League.

At loooooo-ng last.
Roar secure a front of shirt sponsor: Central Home Loans.
Sky blue circle on the front of the shirt with CHL in white and then the full name underneath in white
Looks okay, not too sure about the sky blue though

@waz,i guess we just see things differently. To me an 8 week NYL should be taken seriously and should be about testing what you have learnt. To see if you are ready for the step up. Do your experiments in practice and npl where there is more time or save the cash spent on a mickey mouse competition and get rid of it. Where is the dividing line if nobody cares about winning, but just development of players? Next thing the HAL or National youth teams will be just for development and winning will be unimportant.........

That’s the way youth development is. And that’s the way it should be.
It doesn’t mean Roars youth development is right, I’m looking at Caletti, D’Aggers and Brady and they’re not setting the world alight. LECK looks fast but incompetent on crosses. Akbari I haven’t seen enough of.
All at NYL look the goods - it’s the transition to A League that’s the problem.

This was from a stadium article -
The two obvious options are an upgrade of Ballymore Stadium or a rebuild of Perry Park.
It's understood FFA had already been in discussion with the Queensland Rugby Union over redevelopment options at Ballymore, where the Roar currently train and A-League expansion hopefuls Brisbane City intend to play their games.
The QRU has been seeking a solution to Ballymore, which seats 18,000 but is in a state of disrepair, for more than a decade.
---- Personally, F*ck using tax money for Union.
This is sensitive but for me the obvious option, beside a Roma St (probably too expensive) stadium is to build a smaller stadium at QSAC. The bus links are there.
Now this could mean, Roar can stay at Suncorp and eg Strikers could play there or Roar move there and a second team plays at Ballymore. FFA won't give Perry Park an all clear.
FCBC & QRU should pay for Ballymore themselves.
Moving would effect many Roar fans.

Lol
Growing up south of the river I don't know where Chermside is. I have of course heard of it.
Nathan/Mt Gravatt is next to the motorway and has buses. Easy access north and south (with vehicle).

I don't know why the Ekka isn't mentioned. It's an ancient decrepid set up that doesn't have to be round for what it's used for these days Got it's own train station and a short vomit from the Valley No doubt there must be a good reason, anyone ?

It would make sense.but i presume the farmers that run the EKKA are happy to keep the actual oval for use once a year. All the surrounding developments probably earn them some dollars. It would take an entrepreneurial business person to approach them about development and I dont see anyone in Football here with the wherewithal. Redevelopment of the QSAC would make more sense.it's distance from the city being similar to Chermside is irrelevant. It's a five minute express bus ride from the city and noone complained about going there before Suncorp stadium was built, except local residents, when people parked nearby. In those days 50K people would rock up.

I think a boutique stadium would fit in Davies Park in West End with a little bit of a rework. It is home to one of the local RL sides so I'm not sure what they would think about it.

Agree with the RNA. Even down the other end from that photo. I wonder if the heritage listing would preclude it being redeveloped. There is commercial potential for the surrounding area.

There is rectangular land next to the RNA that could fit a stadium - it’s normslly used for loading/unloading during Ekka week but realistically - PP and RNA are probably the best locations.

Recon were now seeing Aloisi’s master plan in play now. Defend and counter.
BIG Signings for next season based on this:
New Goalkeeper New DM to play alongside TK New winger to replace FBK New, fast striker.
FBK, Holman, Hingert, North to get re-signed.
Maccarone, Mackay, Brown, Oxborrow, Theo, Young, all going.
Rest of squad a lottery

Dont let your guard down, Aloisi is shit and he will drive your club into the ground (witht the Balkries helping) the sooner Aloisi goes the better it will be for Roar.

Not sure what you saw as positive in that comment. JA is going to set us up as a defensive, counter attacking side. The opposite of Roar-celona
We’ve done tonight several times this season with mixed results. So I recon that’s where we’re heading but he’s going to need new signings.

Souths Logan Magpies have played there for over 100 years I think. For me it would be epic to get them in NRL playing at their own stadium. But it is a flood risk and the residents would go mad I think. Im pretty sure BCC own it and PP.

So essentially the same game plan as it was the season before when Jmac and Borello were playing together, quick counters. Need young players for that so hopefully that happens, I mean surely they players can't get any older at least?

Who else in the league we can get to do a better job than young.

I think Young is the best keeper in the league, I hope he stays but I think last night will have convinced Aloisi his way is the way to go and that will mean several key changes. And all that will start at the back but I wouldn’t like to say who will come in.
I know White is highly rated and he may be a possible replacement but I’ve no idea how good he is.
Aloisi is copying Arnie and SFC, which I think shows his limitation as a coach, but it’s not unusual in sport - people copy other people’s success.
And a big part of SFCs success is how they’ve managed the cap. Ignore the BS over whether they’re breaching the cap or not, they’re not, they’ve just managed it really well.
They’ve got cheap squad fillers like Simon that no one else wants - Simon is the best example (I can see Henrique filling that role, and North) and no one gets over paid just because there’s room in the cap and that saving is then focussed on key positions, visa players, who are “over paid” compared to other clubs.
Roar locked up a lot of salary cap in players like Theo and North on long term contracts over the last 5 years, I recon our new football director will be sorting a lot of stuff out next month.

Bit of an update on Logan - they’re attempting to move admin there this week, the players will stay at Ballymore until after the Adelaide game and commence training there on the 4th of next month. QUT will close and the junior academy will also move there. The Women may stay where they are, at Mel’s request, but tbd
