Still time for whoever signs to get over here and have a few runs before the season but this really needs to get sorted. Squads been in full preseason for months.

@ primtech
My guess the delay is over family, not money or football. There’s been rumours linking him to another La Liga club and a couple of English clubs. Not sure how solid those rumours are but family might prefer he stay in Europe?
But I’d be expecting a “no” sometime today/tomorrow. Just depends how advanced they are chasing other targets. This last signing needs to be here next week at the latest.

@ clockwork
I know it’s not fair but they were my similar thoughts. All I can hear is JA saying “he didn’t get a proper preseason” and “he’ll be better for a full preseason next year” in a couple of months time.
But that’s my depressive Roar Supporter speaking; we’ve got 22/23 players in place, a new physio from the EPL, a new fitness coach from Wanderers, and a new assistant coach. All of them were here on time and training on excellent facilities. There can be no excuses.

Plus if like you said, he has been training somewhere and keeping his fitness up to a reasonable standard, that can't really be an excuse. And if you bring in a really classy player, they tend to be able to adjust and adapt a lot quicker. If JA doesn't get it together this season and tries to rely on more excuses, he'll have to be gone.

hopefully we hear something soon re flamini really think he could be great for us (though i am still holding out hope for our next broich, someone that will dominate the league for 7+ years with us).
back to formation i thought last season (before our horror injury toll at the back) we should have been playing 3-4-2-1 and i think we have the squad (at the moment) to play that way
young devere papa bowles hingert TK Mauk O'toole eric mikleson taggs
hingert and o'tool both have the legs to get up and down the wings (it also takes a little defensive pressure off them as they have an extra defensive player) mauk has the transition ability to cover TK and join in attack and i think it will solidify the back line. we saw last year that eric likes playing more centrally than being an out and out winger like borrello, i really think that if papa and devere are both fit that will be our best formation and i would really like to see us line up that way.

3 at the back sends a shiver down my spine. That’s where it all started going wrong last season ... although I do follow your logic

+x3 at the back sends a shiver down my spine. That’s where it all started going wrong last season ... although I do follow your logic we never truly played with 3 at the back last season, and even though it was more or less a disaster playing with 3 at the back with the national team they didnt have the cattle, we do. there is no doubt for me that devere, papa, bowles, tk, mauk, taggs is a much more solid spine than devere, papa, tk, mckay, mauk, taggs, both defensively and in attack. if we dont get a decent DM (or AM with mauk dropping back) then i would really like to at least see us try it out. i think we would do well with that formation

Just saying.

the wingers dont necessarily have to play inside the wing backs but the formation suits wingers that like to play more "inside" like eric (i dont know what tobi is like as i havent seen how he attacks yet) as opposed to true wingers that aim to get outside the defenders to put in crosses or attack from the byline (ala borrello and especially players like oar)
it also suits wing backs like hingert and o'toole who like to get up and back ( and at times can be a little suspect one on one defensively) it plays to the strengths of the players we have. our forward players (taggs, tobi, eric mauk) are all very mobile which suits the formation as chances are made by quick transition and putting oppositions under pressure high up the park. defensively having an extra player and defending higher up would ideally shore up an area we have looked suspect in the past seasons. i really think the formation suits the players and general style we want to play. just look at how conte and beisla deploy it to get an idea

ffs, check this out - clear handball on the line and the ref waves play on. Victory should have been down to ten men ... https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=464245760760506&id=1361064053959263&ref=m_notif¬if_t=page_post_reaction

Forget three at the back ,nobody in Australia has good enough fullbacks to play that formation.Defensively Hingert and O'Toole would struggle. I can just imagine opposition wingers getting behind them ,while they are high up the pitch and causing havoc for the three CB's and the out of position DM's. Ange couldn't get it to work without conceding lots of goals and not many teams except the cream of the crop can do it with any success. Next person to suggest it here should be red carded.

Shitter quality than a Bigfoot sighting
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Holman out for longer?
KEY Brisbane defender Avraam Papadopoulos will be fit for the start of the A-League season next month, but there remains doubt about when former Socceroos playmaker Brett Holman will be available for the Roar. Papadopoulos and Holman have yet to feature in the Roar?s FFA Cup/pre-season campaign. Former Greek international Papadopoulos, 33, has not played since breaking his ankle at a Roar training session in March. Holman, 34, made just 13 A-League starts last season and is on the comeback trail from a knee injury. Roar coach John Aloisi was unsure about Holman?s return, but tipped Papadopoulos to be fit for the Roar?s opening ALeague game of the season, against Central Coast Mariners at Suncorp Stadium on October 21. ?Avraam will play in at least three of our pre-season games between now and then,? Aloisi said. ?He can?t wait to get back on the park. He?s worked really hard in his recovery.?? Papadopoulos will join the rest of the playing group tomorrow when the Roar train at their Logan base, but will be on a restricted program. Aloisi wants two more preseason games against ALeague opposition before taking on the Mariners. ?So far this has been the best preparation we?ve had since I?ve been here,? said Aloisi , whose team has already played four A-League teams ? including Melbourne City in the FFA Cup ? in preparing for the season proper.
From Marco in the CM.

They’ve move on by all accounts, door not shut on Flamini but not prepared to delay negotiations with others.

+xAdam Maher still a free agent for what it's worth. He's my dream signing. I think last time you suggested him I shot it down as unlikely, but since he's without a club and European teams have pretty much locked down their squads, maybe it could happen? He's more an attacking player than a DM so not exactly what we're looking for but I'd still be excited if it happened. Has a good CV and only 25.

New kits I'd assume? And going off the graphic, a return to black and orange thank god.

A three man midfield of Maher-TK-Mauk would be electric. 25 year old Dutch international would blow the pants off any signing we've had this offseason bar maybe Honda. He's a better player than SDJ imo. But yeah... Absolute dream situation. Don't think we'll get him.
