+x+xI really think we needed to do much, much better than Scott MacDonald. Agree , DWH is a very similar player and 14 yrs younger , just let that sink in for a little bit , not bagging SMD but Fowler hasn’t got a clue , same with signing Corey Brown , why not give Powell some game time ? Powell is not here

Named in the match day squad but if trialling overseas good luck to him , so if he does get an overseas gig and JCP signs with the Dutch club Browns signing makes a little bit of sense .

+x+x+x+xWe have an injured player and have signed an experienced and capable replacement for him. This is not part of 'developing our squad' - it is simply filling an unexpected hole. Bit of dire overreaction to this one I think. The reaction has to be seen in the context of profoundly underwhelming recruitment. This position is not one of the critical failings most often commented on in this forum and I am just mindful of the momentum that negative comments can generate when things like this are thought of as 'another thing going wrong'. Really, we were OK at left back with JCP, Powell and O'Toole all possible there, and Corey is not a drop down from that level - so to add this to the general recruiting flaws this season is a damaging and unnecessary link to me. We should not be wasting any big money on a world class left back when we have other places that need more attention so Corey is to me a good replacement playing wise. I take Waz's comments about the other side of his selection - and I would probably have felt the same way had Mitch Nichols been brought back (although he did improve fitness and effectiveness considerably when he left us). My issue is that, as you state, we have other places that need more attention, so did we really need to sign another LB? I would argue that Brown is around the same level as Powell and O'Toole, and probably worse than JCP. Sure, JCP is injured, so play Powell, or O'Toole. Or worse case scenario, keep playing Hingert there. Why spend cap space unnecessarily? It just seems completely illogical to me. Agreed 100%. I think as well it's disappointing when we desperately need a quality CB and that issue is not so far addressed. Yet we go bolster up a position that we are ok with. Thats the whole disappointed and frustrated reaction you see here on this site.

January signings are always limited - if you want a CB it’s not necessarily so that the one you want is available.
If Aldred is to be replaced it’s likely to be a visa player who mostly become available over winter
Brown should be short term, if he’s signed again for next year it’ll be based on good performances (although everyone knows by now once Brown has a contract he turns shit).
McDONALD is the clearest sign ROD is passed his use by date which sadly means what was a safe bet signed is a flop.
If Roar can keep the squad together they’d benefit from four really good signings - Striker, Playmaker/6, CB and one other.

+x+xWhich club is likely to emerge as a primary contender for a second Brisbane spot in the HAL should that eventuate? It won’t happen in Brisbane unless Roar implode mainly due to the stadium issues but also it would likely just be a new Heart so Pen Power, Lions, Western Pride and the dark horse for me - Gold Coast Knights Would love to see a gold coast club again but I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

Knights are certainly making all the right moves. And if that 10k boutique stadium on the Coast comes off, why not?

Need to get a new cb -- have jcb (injured I know) and Reardon sitting there If they don t play then they ll never be any good. Continue to play Bowles who has far less potential. Akbari and mells sit there whilst pepper plays... How do we bring on our youth for the future +/- sale?? Any thoughts?

The weather will come in to team selection now. It’s been raining hard pretty much all night (I’m 6km’s from the stadium and it’s taken a soaking) and will rain pretty much all day and through the match.
The first goal will be crucial again today - easier to sit back and defend in conditions like this.

No ROD today, hip injury.
Needs to run at Nix CB’s so should start DWH instead alongside Holloway

Something of an overstatement, Waz. He's scored a couple of good goals in recent games - which is good news, sure. But before that he has been relentlessly ordinary. Would he get at game at any other side except Brisbane or the Jets? No, I don't think he would. "Ripping the competition apart" seems rather hyperbolic under the circumstances. I respect your positivity, but the fact you have singled him out for such extravagant praise shows just how bare our squad cupboard is.

If Matt Smith and Craig Moore hang around after the charity match, Hingert, Moore, Smith, Brown would not be such a bad backline if we drop a few years off them, I am a bit worried about our CBs this game. Will Robbie go for Gillesphey and Reardon, Longbottom if he is fit and Gillesphey, or my most feared combination Bowles and Gillesphey...? Pepper even? I don't think we have a solid pairing.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Gillesphey was superb last week not that many people are prepared to acknowledge it due to previously held negative opinions.
Granted Neville in the Center is makeshift but you need someone with experience there and he can cover that.
And Hingert out on the right is a safe pair of hands.

I agree that Gillesphey played better last week than he has done previously, but superb is a bit of a stretch.
