+x+x+x+xOne player I am not impressed with is muratovic. I could count on one hand the times he retained posession. McDonald in the 2nd half was blowing up at the bench to get him off. The number of chances that created for him that he loss the ball, wasn't paying attention or slow to react was just poor. You look at McDonald small frame and how he holds the ball while this kid just seems incapable. Other than scoring a 2 or 3 goals there hasn't been much to convince me why he should be in the team. If that's true then it doesn't paint a good picture for McDonald, it doesn't do good for team dynamics. I thought Muratovic was decent enough for Fowler to last him for 80 minutes. Can anyone confirm That about MacD? im not sure that's a correct interpretation of MacD communication with the bench. If so Maybe it's a little exaggerated as I though Mura was tiring and maybe that's all it was about. I wasn’t far from the bench and I didn’t notice anything. To be fair McDonald blows up at everyone but just about silly mistakes. He’s hungry. People have to remember Mura’s a kid still. Give him time. You can see he’s an an intelligent player with a lot of potential. Has the ability to hold the ball well and link up with players just needs that consistency. I agree he’s still a bit timid physically though. That will come. I thought Mirza was good value of Friday, he made a few mistakes but to be honest that is to be expected, he did a lot of good work especially the runs off the ball which created the space for other players. I thought he visibly tired after the 60 minute mark which is when I thought we should have brought in DWH

I agree he’s still a bit timid physically though. That will come. This is the key point for Mirza. His body is nowhere near strong enough yet to play the game he tries to play - but his body will get stronger. He gets walked through from behind every time against big centrebacks and he does hold off or pull out of physical challenges. But as a young player learning - when his body gets stronger his skills and abilities being honed as a lightweight are going to pay out hugely. Great of Robbie to acknowledge a youngster learning and leaving him on to do that. As for the disjointed forwards we have in general - I wonder if Robbie builds and develops plays with the midfield and leaves the forwards out of that - telling the forwards to just run where they think a gap might be opening up. Would explain why we have such good combination play in the midfield and can create dangerous situations often but the final player is not quite where we want them to be. I imagine you can't tell a forward exactly where to run in training because you don't know where the opposition will be or how they will react. Just something that increased association and familiarity will help to foster.

We’ve been guilty of moving the ball a bit slowly in the front third in other games. This was much better. I think Inman plays much better cutting in from the left as well rather than playing central. He and McDonald formed a little triangle with Mirza at the top. That seems to have some promise. The only thing I would like us to do is get the fullbacks in behind a little more rather than cross. Otherwise our strikers are playing with their backs to goal a bit too much. I love to see a team play through the middle but some variety in behind keeps the opposition guessing, much harder to defend.

I was impressed by Macca this game. He was bossing his forward line, took leadership, moved in excellent positions and was creative with his movements. Mirza whilst OK needs to do a lot better if he wants a permanent spot in a starting XI. Yes, he is still learning but imagine if we had a quality striker mixed in the team we saw show up on Friday.

A kid? is he under 13? He is not even a teenager, he is an grown adult at 20 years of age and gets paid just like any other. If he hasn't already got the basics its time to replace him with one who does.

To be fair though DWH is also not really suited to starting so Robbie didn't have a lot of choice with Amadi Holloway out . We need another experienced striker (doesn't everyone except Sydney FC ?)

It stuck out like the proverbial ..I have been noticing it for a few weeks now so I paid particular attention to him this game ...even when he was off the ball . He does a lot of runs to poor positions and doesn't like physical contact ...to the point I saw him pull out of contests.... that is simply not on at this level . Maybe he was not well or doesn't handle the heat well but he seemed to be way more shagged than he should have been by the time Macca started complaining to RF about him .

Surprised O'Neill not there, he was excellent. he was but he was also given a really easy assignment as the WSW line was never putting him under any pressure. Muller was an absolute liability for WSW defensively. O'niel was good because he had all the time in the world to play his passes, I will say though that yellow was stupid and it cost the team a goal. when WSW broke for Dukes goal o'neil just had to keep backing off and not make a challenge because he was on a yellow. that is exactly where you need the DM to break up play (either win the ball in a hard tackle or foul to stop the play) but he couldn't, hingert and Neville had pushed way forward and it was a 3-2 advantage down that side to wsw.

Have no idea if the stranger (not friend) I overheard talking was at the game because I wasn't there, as weren't many such was the previous unwatchable rabble that prompted the feet votes. This was a revelation and hope it may continue and not just a 1 game fluke against an out of character opposition.

I absolutely agree with most of this. however it is not all his fault. Mirza's strength is not back to goal hold up play which he is being asked to play. he is fast and is best playing off the last shoulder getting in behind (though as an inexperienced player that sort of play is probably not going to be very effective yet for him in the a-league and the roar certainly are not going to play that sort of football). he was weak on the ball with back to goal and pulled out of challenges he was also gassed by the second half when SMD started to really get up him (probably rightly so as we would fall apart when the ball got to him). HOWEVER the positive side to his game play was his defensive effort. he put the opposition under pressure and took up a lot of the slack that SMD left. SMD was not poor when we were out of possession but his work rate was well below what Mirza was giving us. the performance that we put in on friday was heavily based on a high press and SMD was not a big part of it and AAH would have been almost as useless in that sort of game play (but would have offered more offensively with back to goal). I did think it was poor form from SMD to be so up mirza particularly as by that time SMDs defensive efforts were gone (he was also gassed) SMD held the ball better but once we lost possession was useless at winning it back and that hurt the team. Mirza at the same time was useless when the ball got to him but was still putting in the effort defensively and picking up SMD's slack. Both of them have big flaws to their game (SMD his fitness to be able to work defensively and run out 90, Mirza his back to goal hold up play and ability to work for 90 minutes). What i would give to have a young Bes and Broich in this squad instead of Mirza and SMD, similar types of palyers but without the flaws.

Macca is too slow to be a striker and his workrate is too low .But his technical skills are probably the best in the team.So where do you play him? He is a striker but obviously needs a partner to be effective,But Maratovic has his deficiencies as does DWH.AAH barely qualifies as a striker.More as a beast.Like a Simon on steroids. A proper winger like Halloran would be nice.Just like a quality striker.

Striker ,Winger, playmaker are obvious areas for improvement. We've been saying from day dot we need 2 or 3 quality players. Imagine if we even had one quality striker that game - would've torn shreds off them. Watching Berisha this weekend, my goodness he can knock them in with class when in form.
In a resort somewhere

In the days when my Boy was too young for The Den we sat just behind the Roar coaching box and heard on numerous occasions Broich and Berisha talking to coaches about poor performing team mates. And they didn’t hold back.
Berisha was notorious for telling his team mates how they were performing on the pitch, in the changing room and on the training park. And who can forget Steff blowing up at Young?
If SMD was having a go at young Mirza. Good, the young kid better get used to it because that is football.
If SMD was having conversations with coaches about Mirza. Good, that’s what you want from your leadership group.
If this stuff is NOT happening a team has a problem. There is generally no problem when it does happen.
The only player I saw getting a serve at the game was Hingert (still not sure what for, someone suggested it was his cheap turnover that started the WSW goal that caused it). So it seems no player is immune.

Unrelated question to where this thread is right now ...but I have been noticing that the forum generally seems to often be dominated by Roar threads . The Orange Army thread is often at or near the top and other Roar threads seem to be often big comment providers . I don't see a great deal of threads about Sydney FC or Melbourne, Newcastle , etc .... Am I missing something technical (like maybe the forum knows what I like or something) or are there just a lot of people constantly commenting on the Roar ? Serious question .

I think it's a combination of a few very active Roar fans who like discussion, and a number of other teams fans who are interested in commenting on our form/games. Roar are a hot topic this season, for sure.

Interesting question.Obviously there are some keen Roar supporters that like to post. But I have no idea why other supporters ,such as Victory supporters (with by far the most memberships)aren't as active. It isnt normally related to the ladder position either. It's one of those mysteries like ratings.

I think a lot of other club's posters have indicated in the past that they prefer to post in their respective club's forums. I've noticed that the Roar Forum has shut down, so this is really the only place for us to chat about stuff.

Jacob Pepper has signed for Madura United in Indonesia after his release from the Roar. Wonder if he paid out his contract to the Roar [like Taylor Regan did with Adelaide] to force the move to be able to go ahead. Makes no sense for a club to release a player wanted abroad, wouldn't you hold out for a transfer fee?

Roar have never really stood in the way if players wanted to leave, I mean they just let Mauk go recently, no problem with Pepper going, not a starting 11 player, average at best, Bowles next please.

I thought he copped a fair bit of unfair criticism. He was a good club man, good luck to him.

It’s a mystery why other clubs threads aren’t as active as this one, there’s been discussion around a general decline across this forum so maybe that’s the cause.
I don’t buy the “other clubs fans prefer to post elsewhere” argument because Roar supporters post elsewhere as well (the BRFC Supporters Club as probably the biggest example)
I think this thread is so active because there’s 5/6 active posters not just one or two.

Yea, was always good read on the old roar forum, there was always this one Brisbane Strikers guy on there, forget his name but he was always taking the piss but he was funny enough. In regards to the 442 forum, Brisbane Roar have always had quite a few members over the years, some have left but new ones have joined, always been pretty consistent as one of the most supported on here besides Victory and Sydney Fc fans. Yourself and Roar in me Blood have been leading the way in positive posting in here which I do love, I used to be the same but have lost my way in recent years, hope to get that back and join you guys.
