lol ALP going to try a Senate motion to have the Commissioner stood down, as if Brandis would even do that. Just let it go, reeks of "something to hide" by the Unions for aggressively pursuing this so badly. It was a fucking LNP dinner that he didn't even end up speaking at ffs. -PB

-PB I think you are missing the political value of this to the ALP - of course they know this senate motion will go nowhere. The point is to keep the focus on this issue, rather than let the govt control the media agenda. They have obviously determined that this issue is no longer a negative to the ALP, and has become (in their narrative) another example of Abbott dodginess. They will be keeping this in the media as long as they can. And why not? Their polling has been improving since this 'conflict of interest' issue came up.

The liberals think everyone is against them, but they lost there spine when they promoted Abbot and Hockey into powerful positions. It because of the endless gaffs of these blundering idiots they will be wiped out. Then you got nuffies like Peter Dutton. This guy see's fairfax as attacking the government which is a fair call, but then he labels it as a Jihad against the Government. Is he seriously trying to paint a news company in the same color as Muslim extremists to garner favor. This is another case of an idiot doing more damage than good. http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/peter-dutton-claims-fairfax-media-is-trying-to-bring-down-the-abbott-government-20150831-gjc4j1.htmlQuote:In an interview with the ABC's AM program on Tuesday, Mr Dutton blamed media organisations when asked what the government could do to steer itself back on course and communicate its message to voters. "I think it would be helpful if some of the commentators in the area, in this space of politics, started reporting on the incidents, as opposed to being players themselves," he said.
"I think there's a huge move by Fairfax at the moment to try and bring the government down, that's fair enough. "They aren't supposed to be political players, they're supposed to be objective reporters of the news and I think many of them have morphed into frustrated politicians themselves."
Mr Dutton later told Sky News: "The reality is that there is a bit of a jihad being conducted by Fairfax at the moment."
Mr Dutton's swipe is similar to criticism made by former prime minister Julia Gillard of News Corp publications during the turbulent Rudd-Gillard era. Edited by glenn - a-league mad: 1/9/2015 10:14:50 AM

The language of 'jihad' is intentional and written by their spin doctors - its dog whistle politics so as to get two 'messages' out; one for the centre right wingers & the other for extreme right wingers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog-whistle_politics

Edited by glenn - a-league mad: 1/9/2015 10:14:50 AM Mr Dutton raises some valid points. Fairfax is obviously waging war against the government in an attempt to bring it down. As a free market enterprise they can do whatever they like, but they are neglecting their social and moral responsibilty to report fairly and objectively, which is supposedly the hallmark of good journalism. Almost every article in a Fairfax publication about the government is negatively framed, sure some its warrented but a lot of it is just confected garbage in a hollow attempt to make the government look bad for the sake of pleasing its readers, rather than giving them valuable , worthwhile content. Some might call this recompense for The Daily Telegraphs treatment of Gillard and Rudd, but the Daily Telegraph is a terrible newspaper and it appears Fairfax is sliding into the same moral vacuum as they are.

I agree with you re: fairfax being anti government. It just really struck me how idiotic some of these poly's can be. A news paper only reporting bad news about us = religious war on the LNP. Its like Dutton has just asked and answered his own question. "Why do they only report about the bad things or stupid things we do and say; here Ill say something stupid to enforce my point."I think Tony Abbott summed it up well, when his puppet master at the Telegraph was demonizing Labor. the suppository of wisdom wrote:Speaking about the then Labor government at a media conference in 2013, Mr Abbott said: "fundamentally, if you want good coverage, you have got to perform well". "If you want better coverage, be a better government."

Whilst I agree that Fairfax and Guardian are generally left, and the News Corp publications generally right leaning, the difference is that there is increased polarisation.
There is less objective analysis from a right or left perspective, and more evangelising for whatever side you are cheerleading for.
Since Gillard became PM I have never seen so many articles that are just profoundly lying, not even making a pretence of being objective. And the problem is that Newscorp have 70% market share of newspapers, so its hardly balanced overall.
