Mediawatch's coverage of the NBN raids was really good. The laws really do need reform.

A pig with lipstick is still a pig. think the taxpayers have the right to be fearful as seeing $70+ billion dollars going down the toilet.

I think the whole project is a farce. FTTN gets rolled out quicker and revenues are realised sooner, so if FTTN ends up saving the bottom line billions of dollars and providing those glorious social and economic benefits sooner than it may be a worthwhile change of direction.

OK this is boring now, your assumption is that it actually is cheaper to go this way. There's plenty of evidence to suggest that it's not the case so your argument is invalid.

I'm not assuming anything. FTTN is about half the cost of FTTP - its all in the corporate plan. In addition it gets rolled out much faster, so the NBN can start collecting revenues and get to cash flow positive much sooner than they would under FTTP scenario.

The problem with lefties is they see 10 billion dollars as just a bit of pocket money that's just a drop in the ocean, rather than seeing it as something that could go towards funding metro rail in at least three capital cities. So while they aim for us to be the country who can do the fastest speed tests, meanwhile our cities are grinding to a halt to due lack of investment in public transport.

That's cool. I'd rather they didn't cut company tax and use the $50 billion dollars in lost revenue to invest in metro rail projects. Whatcha gonna do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No private enterprise would invest the billions in this, because our population is
1) too small
& 2) lacks density (sparse) & is highly 'clumped'

As for revenues realised sooner - why I am not surprised a rightie states this. Short term gain at the expense of longer term greater gains (from short term 'pains')

The most stupid thing about "FTTN is all that's needed for residential" is it ignores how many PROFESSIONALS work for themselves & from home
- engineers
- software developers
- accountants
- solicitors
etc, etc, etc

Of course, its the norm for the righties to have such outdated thinking thanks to the simplistic ideology underlying it

Yes but not all of them would be Australians. An infrastructure project like metro rail could be built with that money would belong to every private man woman and child in Australia. It also ignores why you do these infrastructure projects in the first place. I'm not going to go over all that stuff again, it's only a dozen pages ago.

They're failing at that task spectacularly if you believe the leaked documents (and why would you doubt they're accurate when NBN Co are going so hard after them?).

Yes but to a layman like myself when it comes to the NBN, more money is more money. I don't know the difference between the business and residential solutions which are very different.

To me and people like me, it's just another cost blowout.

 I have no desire to waste my time on it I'm making an observation from the position of someone (like many others) who doesn't know much about this system. How can a government win if they announce more costs when the population doesn't understand and doesn't really care about the network? I don't need optic fibre. It would be nice but my internet works just fine.

Where are your rebuttals to my comments on the Brazil dam failure champ? Thought you'd have educated yourself by now

S

It's the only argument it deserves.
Professionals are generally well off enough to pay for the upgrade to fibre themselves rather than fobbing the cost onto the taxpayer. Also for professionals who work from home, they're not likely to be your next door neighbour, most people commute from home to these awesome places called offices, in buildings. The who do actually work from home and would benefit from 1gbps upload speed represent like 0.01% of the population, but obviously the narrative sounds better than the maths. I would probably stick with streaming multiple porn streams and watching netflix in 1,000,000 x 1,000,000 pixels as the strongest economic and social arguments for FTTH than all the silly nonsense about teleworking.

The timing is right for her and her views.

She will get a seat no doubt.

Do you have an orignal thought or everything you day and think comes from the murdoch press? ?

It's not about having original thoughts, it's about being responsible with taxpayers money.

Billy Short on Q&A next week, be interesting to see how that goes.

Also lol @ "When we said that he was going to produce coppers to the home, we didn't think it was literally. But that's what happened last week," Mr Albanese said, in reference to the AFP raids."

See, is there any real need or "market" for her views anymore when the major parties basically saw how many votes there were in her views and basically acted to swallow them up years ago?
