No he isn`t, agreed, after last night i`m not sure what the problem is either. i still think we`re a decent side that just hasn`t clicked yet, even with 9 men last night i thought we were a red hot chance to equalize The season isn`t a write off yet, there`s still 7 games to go.

Stability or consolidation is the answer. We are turning over too many players every year and our coaching staff changes ever year. You cannot keep rebuilding every year and expect instant success.

It's a totally frustrating way to play in the VPL Ben. Flicks, tricks, sideways and backwards, looking for the perfect through ball etc etc. Then watching a hopefull long ball from the opposition get totally messed up by our defence and copping a goal. It's probably happened at least 5-6 times this year. The Trifiro's, Gasparis are all similar type mid's and should never be in the same XI. A midfield of Keenan, Tsiaris, Trifiro(either one), Nando is more balanced(when available that is). Rixon I definately know is playing with an injury but battles away at least. Teams come to Lakeside and play their arses off against us, it's their grand final beating the 'mighty' South. We haven't been able to cope with this situation for years. The coaching staff need to be onto this and send the team out ready to rumble, not try and pass the opposition to death. Fed up with losing to rubbish teams that simply put 11 men behind the ball and wait for a mistake from us to score. Happened against the Knights, Northcote and Southern Stars amongst others. Hopefully they can gel and play smarter in the 2nd half of the year and make a late run into the finals.

Don't think it's that we pass too much, I think it's that we try to be too fast and too clever with the passing. Too many one-touch attempts and flicks. Midfield is too predictable in that way and we lack anything 'explosive' in the middle (either from a defensive point of view, or with regard to someone who will charge forward and let loose)

Definately been a shithouse season so far. We overposses, pass way too much, play nice/pretty football, miss chance after chance after chance..........then concede a silly sucker punch goal from a defensive blunder. Need to sort this crap out. The VPL is about running, tackling, workrate, defending. That's why teams like Gully win it time after time. It's certainly character building watching another mediocre mid-table South season over the cold, wet amd miserable winter months!!! Stuff watching football in nice, modern family friendly stadiums on balmy 25deg nights in January. That's for all you softies out there.

Does this mean we are now closer to a spot in the A league? Was a good win last night, a bit of luck for a change as well. We are only like 6 points off second spot and with some exciting players coming in during the transfer window i'd expect us to be challenging for the title...we also have a heap of home games in the second half of the season...3 in a row in fact coming up so if we can sort out our home form we should be right....nobody wants to meet South in the finals thats for sure. As far as South getting relegated what a laugh...we have been hit with so many sucker punch defeats this season with the quality we have it simply isnt possible to go down.

THESE CLUBS HAVE NO FUTURE IN THE A-LEAGUE!!! Most of these clubs accepted this in 2004 and dont care. Leave us out of these discussions

Just having a bit of fun, lads.
It's bloody annoying & hurts a bit when people, who have no stake in your league or club, start throwing muck just for the sake of it?
Now you know how HAL fans feel when people, who have zero involvement or interest in the HAL, start throwing much at our league & our clubs. Just because someone doesn't support an A-League team, doesn't mean they have no involvement or interest in the HAL. I have a lot of friends employed at A-League sides and take a huge interest in how they (and their teams) go.

Stormy wrote:4 points off relegation and 6 points off fourth spot. Run into some form and anything can happen. Funny game football... Exactly, we play the bottom of the table side tomorrow. Win that and we're most likely 7 off relegation and quite possibly 3 or 4 off finals. We've been underperforming badly, but it's too early to panic. Worth remembering that this time last season Green Gully were near the bottom - and they won the whole thing.

Joe Davola wrote:I know how much SMFC fans on this forum love to stick the boot into HAL clubs when they hit tough times, so read this and weep ... or have a laugh if you're fed up with SMFC fans bitterness.
Seems it will be many many years before SMFC have the quality to play HAL football - the way they're travelling - 4 pts off relegation at the 1/2 way mark of the season = SMFC may be better suited to playing Vic State League next season.
Why would you feel the need to gloat about South Melbournes current predicament? You have everything, fantastic stadiums, full time players and coaches, a marketing department, a membership department, an Accounting Department, an Administration department, a TV contract that actually shows your matches, fantastic crowds, yet Joe needs to point out South's woeful season in the VPL. I thought SMFC was irrelevant to todays "New Football" supporter? What are you so envious about Joe, that you feel the need to start a topic about SMFC? Why are you still checking our website? What is it that South Melbourne FC has and had, that MVFC does not that would make you, Joe, so envious? And please using the"Bitters" excuse is pretty weak, when a handful of South supporters on a Football Forum can get you riled up Joe. Anyway enjoy the moment if thats what makes your day.
