While clearly playing in a higher league will improve the play of most players, is it true for goalkeepers? If a keeper goes to a top team in a top league, and consequently faces fewer shots or deals with fewer crosses, is this beneficial? Does playing behind a star-studded 4 man defence actually prepare you well for playing behind an ordinary 3 man defence at national level?
In my view, to say Ryan should be our keeper simply because he's playing EPL is really saying nothing more than, we have delegated goalkeeper selection to Chris Hughton, manager of Brighton. If Hughton signed Vukovic then Vuka would be our keeper?

Reagan Ogle had language difficulty when he first moved to Accrington not being able to understand the scouse accent.

http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/15596002.Accrington_is_the_right_place_for_me_to_develop_says_rising_star_Ogle/

Accrington is the right place for me to develop says rising star Ogle

Alex James @alexjameshack

STANLEY starlet Reagan Ogle has a wise head on young shoulders.

The teenage defender is on the cusp of a first team breakthrough at the Wham Stadium and will hope to be involved in the matchday squad for today’s visit of Coventry City in League Two.

But if he misses out on a spot in the matchday 18 you won’t find him sulking.

The 18-year-old has four appearances to his name so far this season, playing a total of 243 minutes. His game time alone this term betters the number of minutes played by all teenagers at 11 Premier League clubs combined last season.

So the Aussie knows he is at the right club for his development and is prepared to be patient in his pursuit of regular action.

He said: “At the end of the day it is down to the manager and if they think you are good enough and have confidence in you then you will play and you have to go out and show them that they are right and show them what you have got.

“You can’t get annoyed at 18 if you are not on the bench, if you are left out a couple of times you have to take it in your stride and move on and try and force your way back in.

“That is hard.

“I played the game the other night (against Blackpool in the Checkatrade Trophy) and then wasn’t on the bench at the weekend (against Luton). But I would rather be fighting for a place in a squad in a team that is going well like we are than not.

“It is all about my improvement this year and any time I get is a bonus. I have already got more than I thought I would this year so it is good.

“If the coaches have faith in you they are going to play for you and luckily for me I have been given a chance, a couple of times on the bench and a couple of times I have managed to come on and I got 45 minutes at Yeovil. At 18 that is all I need, a bit of game time here and there to develop a bit more and Accrington is doing well for me.

“It is a good place to be at the moment and I am enjoying it.”

Ogle arrived in East Lancashire from his homeland aged 11 and has been in the Stanley system ever since.

He has overcome a change in climate, a shift from surfing to soccer and the challenging Liverpudlian accent of his manager.

He said: “When I first arrived here they were all scouse so it was sink or swim, either understand them or don’t talk to anyone! It is a lot easier now.

“It is a good dressing room to be in.

“There is a few that have been around for a while and everyone gets on, there’s no groups. There are no arguments or anything.

“In training they will give you tips, or the wingers will speak to me about how they want the ball and what I should do in situations. They will always help me and are there if I need them so it is good.”

Some interesting updates on Con Ouzounidis, the 18 year-old central defender at Everton:
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-u18s-held-manchester-united-13697628
http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2017/10/09/u23-reaction

Looks like Con has been the captain of the U18 team this season, and has moved up to the U23 team this month. Seems he has been getting heaps of praise and is being described as a standout and "excellent defender".

What I would give for this kid to meet his potential...the national team really needs it!

An update on 18 year-old striker Ben Folami:
https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/32434/mccarthy-delighted-with-striker-folamis-progress

Encouraging words from his manager Mick McCarthy. The kid's definitely on the radar.

Article (in Dutch) about John Iredale, currently playing for the Heerenveen youth teams in the Netherlands: http://www.lc.nl/sport/SC-Heerenveen-spits-John-Iredale-Debuut-als-stip-op-de-horizon-22566214.html

The key points from the article are that Heerenveen had been tracking him for over a year before he made the transfer, Jordy Buijs recommended the club because of its good reputation, and Iredale wants to get a call-up to the Australian U20 team next month. I hope the FFA and the staff with our youth teams are tracking information like this, because it's useful. Iredale has had a good start with Heerenveen U19 (scoring in several games), so he's worth an inclusion into the next U20 squad for sure.

Surely Iredale and Folami are in line for the next under 20 squad which should be named quite soon seeing they are due to play qualifiers for the 2018 AFC U-19 Championships 4th and 8th of November.

Our team is in the Super League's 8th week tomorrow at 14.00. At the Necmettin Sheikhoglu Stadium, Kayserispor completed the preparations for the match with Karabük University Burhanettin Uysal Month Star Stadium in the morning. Our coach was under the supervision of Tony Popovic, and after the warm-up movements of our team, he grabbed 2 balls in 5 and made individual work in miniature. Tolga Gül, our football branch manager, and Koray Çölgeçen, our administrative manager, followed the training.

First game today. Kalac is keeper coach.

Of course Langerak wasn't going to play tonight but Fernandez and Oier are in such form or have experience that he won't get last them. Shocking move in hindsight. It looked really promising but Fernandez has cemented his spot.

Is that the same Oier who was at Barca's academy? Mate of mine stiched up his big toe once, he apparently busted in on the post trying to make a save.

Random pointless fact of the day

Second assist for Kruse.

Assists, I don't care about them. How many times has he passed to the opposition or hit a bad cross or been caught offside. That is all that matters, never passing to the opposition, never hitting bad cross and certainly never being caught offside. As long as a player doesn't do any of those things it does not matter if they never have an assist.

I hope he keeps it up.

Luongo is the only Aussie playing in the Championship tonight by the looks of things.
Definitely no Irvine in the squad for Hull.
