Absolutely this must be done. I just hope these guys continue to get a lot of game time come the start of the season. We all know Ange's philosphy around players playing consistently for their clubs before getting picked for the NT, but I agree, these friendlies against UAE, Qatar, these types, we must be giving the kids a run.

The thought of stretching these countries anuses gets me seriously hard. Do it ange. Don't be an Osiek.

Aston Villa's U21's thrashed non-league Rushall Olympic 2-7. Thomas Strain and Jordan Lyden both started. Lyden copped a knock and was forced off after 12 minutes, though.

Strain with at least two goals from what I can see, he came off around the hour mark. No sign of his younger brother Ryan. although he is probably mostly in the U18's.

I'm still a bit sceptical when it comes to Herd. A month back I heard he was transfer listed, now he's playing most minutes of Villa's pre-season friendlies. Has the manager come out and spoken about him pubically at all? Would be interested to know the managers thoughts.

Its looks as if Lowton will leave us, as he is being mooted to being going to borough, meaning that at right back we will have Bacuna and Hutton, as a villa fan Id have Herd over both them any day.

In terms of pre-season he has been used as a centre back and a number 6, where he would be dow the pecking order

Hmm interesting and BTW Hutton has been on the out-side as part of the infamous 'Bomb Squad' of over-paid, under-performing stars who have been frozen out of the team for a period. Apparently the Bomb Squadders have been given a second chance by Lambert, but they've been trying to shift Hutton (Who was a McLeish signing :/), Bent and co out of the club for quite a while now, so hopefully somebody does take Hutton off Villa's hands atleast, as he was never appropriate for Villa and their ambitions to begin with, another failure of a signing from McLeish era.

It's terrific news to hear Herd is back, full-force on the comeback trail! =d> If he's been given a new lease on life by new-gen manager Lambert, who's known to give the younger gen a shot, then it can only be really positive. He always showed alot of promise at his best, including some stand-out performances at RB? Versatile Herd has been employed at DM/CM, CB and even LB too - but seems his game is definitely best suited to RB, given his weakness in distribution and strengths physically, including stamina, work-rate, aerial ability, defensive capability - closing down, marking etc..? This is from the 2-3 times I've seen him and from much of what I've read.

With the right instruction, under a capable tactician, employed more regularly in the same/preferred position, we might surely seem him finally thrive towards his potential? He's not the greatest talent, but he has the attributes to be an affective enough RB at that level!

And FTR we can have more faith too, as it was no less a tactician who game him his initial elevation and chance/debut, than Gerard Houllier! So if the most esteemed of Villa's recent generation of managers saw something in him, then surely Lambert may?!

Surely they don't see him as first-choice right-back though? At his age range and diminishing pace, as evident with the NT, he seems more suited to shifting back to his 'native' central midfield? He's always been a 'converted' RB anyway, and in his earlier days with Middlesborough Reserves etc... he was a central midfielder. I wonder how he'd go as a DM? Or would he be too prone to being caught behind and fouling? :-k




Very interesting moofa - I guess Ikonomidis means he wants to avoid being caught between a rock and a hard place, aka one of those disasterous loan (Or Co-Ownership - now scrapped?) moves like James Troisi and others, where they loan out only to sit on the bench for their loan clubs too? :-k

Perhaps he and his circle feel he's best continuing to develop via first-team training and development till he's more physically ready for senior level at Lazio, via loan or otherwise? :-k
