SW defended brilliantly against Huddersfield, compact, defended as a team and made no mistakes. Huddersfield really struggled to break them down, and this is where there wingers really let them down, because the space was out wide but they didn't do a good enough job. And nothing wrong with some hoof ball if you aren't breaking them down.

But Huddersfield really look knackered as a team, bound to happen with the high intensity they play, specifically Mooy who was dead on his feet after 30 minutes not tracking any runs and just lethargic in his movement.

Also bar maybe Sydney and City, no team is championship level in the league, especially since the championship has gone up a level or two this past season.

Cringeworthy but 100% true. Championship football is dire. Our top 4 would demolish every team I've watched this season (about 10 teams). It's like a whole different game. Their attackers are head down and dribble and "git it in tha fookin box" and "shooooot" from ridiculous positions. No ability to pass out from the back (90% of teams "possession" is center and full backs passing to each other), no ability to link up in attack (It's all one off rubbish) and to be fair pretty intensive, stubborn defense.

But that is English football, strong, physical players, stubborn defence hit on the counter with pace. Or the good old route one. It is just a different style of football, they could easily pass out from the back but the manager doesn't want them too, its defensive stability first and foremost. Now not every team also plays like that either, a lot play attacking football but it comes with a higher risk against compact defences which we simply don't have in this league.

Also another reason why championship football is often like that is due to the sheer number of matches they play. 46 matches, 2 cups and now with international break which they are apart of (which shows the quality of the league considering a lot play for their countries), fixtures are squeezed even further. The teams couldn't manage going full throttle for an entire season which is the biggest difference between the leagues. They have depth.

2 tackles , 0 touches as his team mates wont pass short into a DM even though he was open numerous times, when he moved wide is when he made 2 tackles, otherwise just sat behind the ball running sideways , bit disaapointing seeing him in real life game.

That's not for real is it? he did have some touches right?

Sounds about as exciting as the game I saw him in. Basically just a body taking up space.

17 passes at 70% accuracy 1 tackle 1 clearance and 1 intercept

pretty low output to be honest but still lets cheer on the young fella big season for him so far!

Yes I know "that is English football". Fact is it's objectively shit. Teams that play "English football" get routinely destroyed by teams that play decent intelligent football.

Exhibit A: the premier league - the teams that play "English football" get wrecked
Exhibit B: the championship - the best teams play the least "English football".
Exhibit C: The English national team - gets fucked up by everyone including iceland.

The funniest thing to me is your comment about the risk involved with attacking football. "English football" people are so fucking dumb (im not talking about you city sam) that they don't realize that a win and 2 losses is as good as 3 draws. These idiots are all about the hard fought draws. As if anyone with a brain doesn't understand that going for 3 points and risking getting 0 is a better idea than holding out for a single point.

Leicester just played "English football" and won the league, the others which play the "English way" is what makes it the most competitive league in the world, because they can actually get results and make it tough.

Championship the best second division in world football, and every team is well structured with good players. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a counter attacking style, defending in lines of 4 and breaking quickly. It is an effective style.

As for the national team, they are hopeless for many reasons. Such as terrible managers, the fact the England national team actually don't have a style it changes every match, they literally changed formations between qualifying and the euros. Also the English FA and the limited opportunity for English players in the top division doesn't help either, nor does no winter break. Sounds like Lyden at Aston Villa last year, really seemed like some of the older heads didn't want to pass to him.

I am not sure about that. I watched some of a video of the game I found online and Burnley were playing 4-5-1 one with a pure defensive frame of mind and were getting smashed. Heaton apparently saved them in the first half but could not in the second. The five midfielders were quite often only just in front of the back four and their only outlet seemed to be kicking it long to poor Sam Vokes. Vokes who had no chance because even if he won the ball he had no body to pass it to as Boyd seemed to be the only other Burnley player with any interest in getting over the half way line. In this kind of game O'Neill had no chance to shine and if he did not make any huge errors then he did well. His situation is probably like a few other Australians who got EPL game time in very weak teams, Herd, Lyden and Carney spring to mind, not really EPL quality but maybe championship quality. Playing senior football at 18 is going to beneficial but at Burnley perhaps less so for O'Neill than is usually the case.

That is the way Burnley play, the back 4 and then the line of midfielders in front of the defence waiting for Vokes and Gray to get in behind. I also wouldn't say it isn't that beneficial to O'Neill, defensively and positional sense will improve drastically along with his physicality so he isn't raw. Lots of benefits in development playing this way too.

1.  most of the above posts should be in the 'league comparison thread;

2. hambuger picked up a draw on the weekend and ingolstadt lost - which leave ingolstadt clearly on the bottom of the bundesliga.  ingolstadt are hurting after leipzig pinched their coach (leipzig are now sitting in 3rd!!!!!!!!).  lets hope for leckies sake that ingolstadt recruit well with their next coach.  current coach Kauczinski has this week received the dreaded "backing of the board".  lets just hope ingolstadt get humiliated enough next week by dortmund to make a move on him.
