Yeah, I'd rather they made Battlefront 3. Battlefront 2 was the shit.

Now I've had time to think this over, the best thing they can do is start completely new. Go for a whole bunch of different characters. And for the love of god, get some good writers in.

Until they fucked up by making KOTOR the MMO instead of just fucking giving us KOTOR 3.

Had to wait until Mass Effect to get something as good as KOTOR 1.

Dude, living in Ballarat, that doesn't mean much.

To be honest, Disney can't do any worse of a job than Lucas did himself with the 3 latest offerings. Shit, The Phantom Menace didn't even have a fucking protagonist.

Good things about the prequel trilogy that i can think of

1-Ewen Mcgregor as Obi wan.

2-Darth Maul

3-The lightsaber battles.

4-Story of Darth Plageus

5-Yoda in non puppet form

6-Mace windu purple lightsaber

7-The emperor

8-the clone wars.

Bad bits

1-Kiwis.....so many kiwis.

The proposed live action SW TV series is supposed to bridge this gap. Lucas has already got the stories lined up and ready to go apparently, but it will simply cost too much to film or something.
It was going to concentrate on "minor" characters at a more lower level than viewed from the top (ie from plebs, smugglers etc rather than the Emperor, senators etc)

That could work,
If it were after episode 6 i would think the plot would likely be as compelling as all the additional fiction around that time period, see Star Wars: Jedi Knight Jedi Outcast for more. An old republic thing could work, but would be in danger of very very over the top action scenes.

Just get HBO onto it.

The Wire in Mos Eisley? Yes please.

Band of Brothers treatment of Rogue Sqadron? Fuck yes.

I'm not sure what to make of this as I hope they aren't butchered but Lucas has created a very diverse universe and seems like the sort of bloke who knows what he's doing leaving this in the hands of a new generation.

You can read about this:

check out the 'Last of the jedi' series by Jude Watson which runs from like 1 year after the 3rd movie and goes through how the rebelion began.

Also see the 'Rise of Darth vader' by Matthew Stover, it also covers jedi getting killed.

Disney made Pirate of the Caribbean didn't they?

Yeah I suppose. The first one was ok but never really got into the others. They're certainly not in the same league as Star Wars though.

Hard to compare but their box office takings were incredibly good.

There is such a large universe with so many options.

The games around Kyle Katarn(sp) were good too. They were set just after a new Jedi had been set up.

There is so much possibility.

Directors who could take Star Wars to a whole new galaxy

From: news.com.au
November 01, 2012 11:37AM

A LONG time ago in a galaxy far, far away ... a new Star Wars film was something to look forward to. But that was before the dark times ... before the Empire.

Now that George Lucas has officially retired from saying "faster, more intense" and passed his lightsabre to Disney, the question every fan is asking: Who'll direct the next lot of Star Wars films?

Lucas directed the first Star Wars, but the experience was a terrible one, so he hired his film-school teacher, Irvin Kershner, to direct the sequel, The Empire Strikes Back, while he wrote the story and produced.

The collaboration resulted in the saga's best chapter. Lucas choose little-known Brit film-maker Richard Marquand, to direct Return of the Jedi after David Lynch and Steven Spielberg passed but Lucas was more involved this time around, and many felt the film suffered for it.

For the prequels, Lucas was writer, producer and director, but the swashbuckling spirit he brought to the original trilogy was replaced with wooden acting, stogy scripts and CGI muppets. Fans hated him for ruining their childhoods.

So it must come as a relief that Lucas will only acting a creative consultant on the new films.

Disney wants to release Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015, and then sequels every two years after that so the studio heads will need to get hiring soon, because Star Wars films are huge undertakings.

Here are five film-makers who could take the saga in a whole new direction.

1. Jon Favreau: His work on Iron Man convinced Disney that Marvel superheroes were worth backing. He has shown he can handle weighty sci-fi action and heavy special effects and his background in comedy (Swingers was SO money) would help put the fun back into Star Wars. The only problem is Cowboys and Aliens - that film was a mess, and as lifeless as any of the Star Wars prequels.

2. Christopher Nolan: Yes, he’s the obvious choice. But he’s already turned around one struggling franchise. Nolan would never mess around with Jar Jar Binks (Mr Freeze, anyone?) and he’d restore some long-gone cachet to Star Wars. But something tells us he'll want to pursue his own projects now that he's wrapped up The Dark Knight trilogy. Same goes for Peter Jackson and James Cameron - they're busy with their own worlds.

3. Sofia Coppola: Maybe she could direct Episode VII as a mood piece, even more boring and more pointless than Lost In Translation. Though we’d like to see Bill Murray get involved, Scarlett Johansson would ruin Princess Leia. Plus Carrie Fisher’s still got it.

4. Lars Von Trier: The Dogme director would certainly save Disney money. No artificial lighting, no special effects, no music, the Death Star and the Millennium Falcon just masking tape on the floor. The fact that his films are often sexually graphic probably doesn't sit too well with the Disney brand but boy it would be a Star Wars to remember.

5. Neill Blomkamp: The South African director came close to making a Halo film with Peter Jackson and his sci-fi flick District 9 has the junkyard feel Lucas brought to the original trilogy. His next film, Elysium, sees Matt Damon taking on an Empire-like elite on behalf of the struggling masses - very Star Wars.

Rumours that it will be a completely original story and won't be an adaptation of any existing Star Wars material. So, if true, those hoping for a Thrawn trilogy will be shit out of luck. It wouldn't be a surprise if it's something completely original considering Lucas' comments over the last few years.

I am very fortunate in that despite being of a generation that grew up on Star Wars 1-3, there was always a set of 4-6 handy of VHS in the house, so i got very well aquainted with them before i saw 1-3, and was not corrupted.

As long as these movies don't try to appeal too much to kids under the age 12 i probably won't have as much of a problem with them as i do with the prequels.

There have been "original" scripts floating around for the better part of the last decade. They'll probably just choose to produce one of those rather than start completely from scratch.

Of course there have been scripts floating around for years, the idea of an episode 7, 8 and 9 has been around ever since A New Hope. More just meant that it won't be an adaptation of any official Star Wars material out there.

There could be, I mean it's all just rumours at the moment but wouldn't surprise me if the only instantly recognisable characters are ones from the movies and not from the books and comics and what not after wards. Especially considering Lucas' comments the last few years about how he doesn't consider the stuff outside of the movies his story and only the movies.

There's still going to have to be overlapping characters to tie the stories together or otherwise they're wasting time.

That scene was one of the best in the three later films. Pity Duku was so corny.
