+x+xChannel 9 making a push for a second Brisbane team - if we’re lucky they’ll relocate the Titans which will create space for Knights/United I have read that several times, but cannot follow what you are on about. waz means that if the nrl gold coast titans relocate to brisbane as has been rumoured then the gold coast knights and gold coast united will have less sporting competitors

I had no idea who the Knights were and throwing United in there threw me as well.

+x+xSouth Melbourne Canberra Wollongong A Tassie team Bris 2? Although I realise that Brisbane Strikers have had Chinese ( FreeHongKong) investment recently for some reason I'm still not particularly sold on their A League ambitions. They're a definite 2nd Division Side though & they can organically grow from there if need be. I'd prefer to bring North Queensland back.

Wide ranging plans for the W League announced: https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2019/oct/15/wide-reaching-plans-for-independent-w-league-revealedin there it states every HAL side should have a W League side And that there should be 16 W league teams. So the target HAL size is 16.

Clubs that already exist would seriously struggle to make the npl to A league leap..im talking your wollongongs, strikers here. Its got to be 2 generic franchises from scratch. An adelaide 2, or bite the bullet on tassie. Not a whole lot of options under the way expansion is currently handled.

New Zealand is an option. I don’t like NZ participation full stop but think that’s an option. I cant see a third Brisbane/QLD team working or another one in Perth/WA, and I think Tassie is fanciful. Adelaide 2 is a maybe but I don’t think there’s enough support down their, fans or commercial, to make a new franchise type club work. So we’re looking (again) at Victoria and NSW’s. If they’re smart they’d pull up one or both or Wolves and South Melb

+xWe’re now looking for 16 teams: Existing 12 plus .... Canberra & Brisbane 2 makes 14. I'm not so sure of that. I think we'll stay at 14 teams and 26 games til pro/rel starts and the 2 new teams would come from the most proven teams of the second tier. But in a hypothetical situation, I would choose Tassie and Team 11 as teams 15 and 16.

I think the jump to 14 is quite realistic but the next 2 after that would be difficult. Auckland may be the easiest option for 15 but number 16 is hard - Perth 2? Tas? Gong?
Div 2 (of 14 teams) and then have the top 2 teams earn promotion over 5 years.

What stadium would Brisbane 2 play out of? Would Canberra Utd attract sponsors and even quality players? First pick players like the appeal of the larger cities so would gravitate there as they can pick and choose.

Well, would it be a good idea to go regional with Canberra, or Wollongong for that matter? Infact, would this a sentimental decision or a prudent one??

There really aren’t a lot of options out there, given that the current HAL clubs will be quite protective of their turf.
Taking that into consideration, it really largely only leaves regional markets, including:
- Canberra - Wollongong - Gold Coast - Ipswich (Brisbane 2) - Tasmania
Options like South Melbourne would not get approval from MV or MC given their geographic location, and at a stretch might only allow an Outer South-East Melbourne (Team 11) entry way into the future as a last resort to grow the competition.
I do think there will be a push by the Independent A-League to establish a club in Auckland, but I also think that the FFA will have veto rights on that given the political implications with AFC that it would likely bring.

I like the sound of this. imo, Wollongong and Canberra are obvious ones and would create ‘local’ derbies with MacArthur FC. Team 11 - if they can guarantee government funding for a stadium; then bring them in, and Brisbane (part two) has to be another serious candidate, as long as they’re differentiated from Brisbane Roar in terms of a stadium. Auckland and Gold Coast are also possibilities, mostly because Auckland would create a rivalry with Wellington and would also be able to play in a suitable stadium. There’s talk of a 15k stadium being built closer to the CBD parts of the Gold Coast, hence the talk about them. I’d be putting them in the second tier, however.

Sage has been quite open to having another team in WA. Sage has been all over the place though in what he wants. His Asia expansion ideas in particular have been off the mark in many people’s eyes. Looking at the WA market though, given that Glory struggle to get 10k at matches in a season they were performing strongly, its been a long time since there have been big crowds over there on a consistent basis. WA is not a large market compared to the Eastern states, and whether there is enough of a latent potential fan base to build another sustainable club will be interesting to see.

- Canberra - Wollongong - Gold Coast - Ipswich (Brisbane 2) - Tasmania
[/quote]Yes to Canberra (we all know they are next in line) No to Wollongong (they will get in via the second tier anyway) Big fat no to the Gold Coast (don't bother. ever.). Yes to Brisbane 2 (not convinced about Ipswich though when Brisbane City and Strikers appear to have solid bids). Yes to Tassie (need a stadium though). Fuck no to Auckland.

Canberra will be team 13 (that is already known...), Brisbane Stikers will be team 14 IMO. That Chinese mob would not be investing millions in the Strikers unless they were planning to play in the A-league.

Canberra is a must Brisbane Strikers with backing to develop Perry Park is good Woollongong, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Tas, Team 11, Adelaide 2 are all good options but could probably come in to 2nd division . Auckland, I dont mind given the potential to grow the NZ market but I think someone needs to explain how NZ teams work with pro/rel before it goes too far.

There's also the little tid bit that our territory government don't want to build a new stadium unless there is 3 tenants. Although, news came out today that because the Raiders held a successful preliminary final here, ACT Government is looking at starting development on a new ground in around 5 years time, with 3 options for location now (one being a straight up renovation)

Our code is a long way behind the rugby codes in Canberra, leaving issues with ground priority, and subsequent pitch quality, likely to be dealt with. A stadium in Civic would be great though.
