Oh yeah baby, bring it on....How good would that be? Every Club should be made to have a Marquee player and this bloke would be ideal for the A League.

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Alvaro Recoba as Jets marquee [RUMOUR]?

Have your say.

He has been playing for Torino but I read he is fed up with the politics of Italian football. This is why Kaka wants to leave Italy.
Con would need to pay a fair bit for him. Recoba has enough money already. At one point Recoba's salary was the largest in the world.
Saying all this it would be a great coup for the Jets.

unfortunately, he's not an out and out striker which we currently need, while he'd be a fantastic coop, we just got jesper who is looking likely to play on the wing (where recoba tends to play). Unlikely imo.

I hope this happens... i would imagine that he would then become hated in uruguay after moving to australia. We know the jets are after a sth american striker (i know recoba is not out and out but would be able to do the job.... just play griffiths up front and have players supporting him... i.e. recoba) who has got some caps for his country and we know nogarotto just got back from italy so this is possible. They are also saying it is a big name. If Recoba comes, he will make all other signings this season by any team look like a load of crap

Absolutely fantastic player, at a fantastic age. I swear his left foot is made of gold. If they can they should sign him for 3 years, and then he could be a legend of the club. I have no doubt he'll deliver in the league. But yes, I agree with kaufasi, hes had offers from Al-Gharrafa, but I'm crossing my fingers, it would be a great thing for the A-League. And who knows, somebody might actually go to a match at Newcastle.

Damn you and your Melbourne big crowds... The Jets get good crowds considering the size of the city. I think you should be complaining about Sydney who get terrible crowds considering they are the biggest city in country... if only they played at a more accessible stadium like homebush... it would still be half empty but i think the crowds would be better

don't critise the Jets home crowds. They get around the same amount of supporters then Sydney get to a game and we have a population of 288,732 (according to that trustworthy site wikipedia) and Sydney have a population of 4,284,379. You do the maths.
If Recoba signs I would also attend every training session, I'd be that guy in the bushes every session

Recoba has enough money already. Pay him a cool million and I think you would get him. He would love life in Australia. Just don't go on the town Alvaro those half wit Rugby League players with no brains go in town and they drink, assault and pee on "normal" people.

I'm sure Con can afford to pay him whatever it takes. If Sydney shell out $1.4mil for a crippled Aloisi, this guy is worth 5x that.

Will Joel have a whinge coz he won't be the #1 anymore?

Are u fucking serious? 20 odd thousand at home games? He are the average crowds for the Newcastle Jets in the A-League season gone by (according to Wikipedia and the 07/08 season review in FourFourTwo magazine):
2005/2006 - 8,912
2006/2007 - 11,442
2007/2008 - 13,209
The highest crowd in the home and away season was 16,433, and in the 2 games in the finals (at home) were 22,960 and in the game to qualify for the grand final (the most important game of the season) there was a meagre 16,021. Newcastle's record crowd for any game was the semi final against Sydney in the 06/07 season, which was just over 24,000 (still not a full stadium).
To give you an idea of where my fans were last year, we had an average crowd of 26,064. Your record crowd was still 2,064 under our AVERAGE. Also our record crowd more doubles yours.
Congratulations Balls, I've met some twats in my life but you are by far the biggest....Where did your fans go last year??? Twat factor = off the richter scale.

The highest home and away season game for the Jets was over 20k against Sydney FC on January 1 2007. Those average crowd figures you mentioned do not include finals games. Which we have actually played more of than any other team (9) which, incidentally, is 3 times more than you melbourneans. The crowd figures for finals games last year were also well under rated, as towards the time of kick off they just started letting people through the gates without scanning the tickets. I was at both the record crowd game, as well as last years preliminary final, and there definitely wasn;t 8,000 people different in the two games.

Why not try and make a comparison which actually means something? Like a per capita of target market comparison. Even aveaging 13k we only have about 500k to draw from. You have nearly 4 million. Your crowds SHOULD be way bigger than ours, but they still pale into comparison per capita. The only club which even gets close to ours when it comes to per capita is Central Coast.
