Wide Bay's QPL side has a name and a logo: Wide Bay Buccaneers : https://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/news/wide-bays-queensland-premier-league-identity-unvei/3191888/(Pity, I loved the old Wide Bay Revolution name)

I wasn't living in Bundaberg at the time that Revolution was playing in the QSL, but I wonder if how the local clubs and players feel about the old name. They probably thought a fresh start was a good move.

I think you may be able to get more than 40 at a game. The last game the chairman was serving at the kiosk. NSL We are back.
But to be fair you should at least be able to get crowds nearing 1000 in Townsville. Don't you agree population is 180833

FOOTBALL: The Sunshine Coast Wanderers will feature in an expanded women's state league next year - but the Sunshine Coast Fire won't. The National Premier Leagues Women's Queensland premiership has been bolstered from 10 teams to 14. The Sunshine Coast Wanderers, established by Buderim Wanderers, will be a newcomer to the competition. "It's been a long time coming. A lot of hard work's gone into securing a licence,” club vice president Stuart Collins said. Buderim's senior women's team is on a 15-game winning streak and is atop the ladder in the local competition. "That highlights the need for them to be challenged and to play at a higher level,” Collins said. All NPLWQ clubs will field teams in open and junior competitions and the Wanderers will represent the region, not just Buderim. "We've got some fantastic coaches already in place and we've got the nucleus of the 13s, 15s, 17s and open teams but...we'll be embracing the Sunshine Coast and bringing in coaching staff and players,” Collins said. "Everybody is welcome to come and trial, whether you are from Noosa, Caloundra or Kawana (etc). We want to try and assemble the best players to ensure there is ownership from the Sunshine Coast and that we have the best success.” It's expected that Fire players will be be amid those at Wanderers' trials in October, after the former's bid to remain in the NPLWQ was denied. "We prepared what I consider a very good application but it went in about two or three days late,” Fire chairman Noel Woodall said. The club had been awaiting input from its ex-technical director Melvyn Wilkes, who is in the United Kingdom. Woodall didn't anticipate the late submission would be problematic because he believed the selection panel wasn't meeting for some time. But he was then informed of the decision, ending a three-year tenure in Queensland's top women's and girls competitions. "Out two younger teams have been among the best teams,” he said. "We're very disappointed that after investing the time and effort and commitment into trying to build the (girls) and women's that they (Football Queensland) don't think a little bit of grace is needed for a couple of days.” He said many Fire players would likely trial with Buderim. "They'll have to fight for a position but they are good players and we've worked really hard with the juniors particularly, with good numbers selected in state squads.” The Fire will still compete in the men's state league and youth competitions next year. The Wanderers' entry in the NPLWQ comes off the back of its successful bid to join the Queensland men's second tier competition next year, along with under-18s and 20s. It's also formed a regional partnership with A-League club Brisbane Roar and is looking to have a Skills Acquisition Program for juniors aged 9-12.

Looks like the top three teams all missed a great chance to stake their claims for the title on the weekend. Olympic losing 4-1, Strikers losing 1-0 and Gold Coast being held 1-1. Talk about a case of the wobbles. While Olympic's defeat at Brisbane City wasn't a major shock, the Strikers losing to Thunder and GCC's draw at home to Fury were big surprises. A few more twists to come by the look of it.

The GCC vs Western Pride clash this weekend is massive!! Strikers should beat Roar Youth which means GCC need to get something out of the game to maintain first position but it won't be easy against a Pride side that is on a 7 or 8 game winning streak and need to get something themselves to stay in the top four.

Pride's 1-0 win over Gold Coast sees Strikers on top heading into the final round this weekend on goal difference. Gold Coast remain a chance however but must first get past Moreton Bay United at Wolter Park on Saturday night and hope that Olympic upset the Strikers on Sunday. Gold Coast & MBU face off again mid next week in the rd of 16 FFA Cup clash. It won't be an easy task for the seasiders with MBU needing a win to try to secure a top four spot. Currently the Pride sit fourth, MBU 5th and Olympic 3rd. Pride face Nthn Fury at home and should be too strong for the Townsville outfit who play their last NPL game under the current licence. A win for the Ipswich side will guarantee them finals football - their first taste - a great story of sticking to your guns and fostering local youth. So could all come down to the final game of the round on Sunday with Olympic also needing something from the match against Strikers to ensure a finals spot.

As a Strikers supporter I'll be crossing my fingers MBU can do us a favour on Saturday night and knock off GCC so the league title is all done and dusted. Let's face it, MBU need to win too if they're to give themselves any chance to make the finals (given that Pride will beat Fury). Just a fascinating game and that's without adding the element of the Piddick brothers facing off against each other and the fact they'll be playing one another again on Wednesday in the FFA Cup.

The Brisbane Premier League has come down to the final round as well. Rochedale can win it tonight with a draw against Mitchelton, assuming Peninsula can't win by 6 goals against Holland Park. Lions could also still be crowned Premiers if they win against Logan and both Rochedale and Peninsula lose. Easts can still grab a finals spot by beating Grange and hoping Mitchelton don't win. And both Holland Park and Souths are outsiders for the finals if results go their way. I'll be at the Rochedale game tonight and will hopefully make it to Olympic vs Strikers tomorrow.
