I'm going to add drill number 16 in the Chelsea Academy, in Dirk Can Adidas' sticky at the top of this Peprfrmance page.

https://sites.google.com/site/youthsoccerlessonplans/executive-docs

It is a very useful exercise as a Warm Up (Passing Practice) exercise.

It involves, first touch, running with the ball and passing.

If you are reading this after downloading your copy into your computer, good.

Initially, have the ball carrier receive the ball with the inside of furthest foot, side on, to the bouncer on the edge of the grid.

i've used this with players from age 10 up to 45. They all seem to like it.

Change the bouncers, on the edge of the grid to one of the inside ball carriers every 3 minutes or so. Have keepers receive the ball with their hands, and stay permanently on the outside of the grid, and roll the ball back to the ball carrier.

I'll add a few progressions.

One progression is to ask the bouncers ( players on the outside of the grid, to make two calls.

1. 'Turn.'

When the bouncer on the outside of the grid receives the ball s/he calls , "Turn".

The ball carrying player in the middle passes the ball to the bouncer, then receives the ball and turns back into the midfield carrying the ball. Initially work on both players receiving the ball side on, with their furthest foot on right and left.

2. "Man on".

Sometimes the bouncer calls, "Man on."

This means the ball carrying player in the middle passes the ball straight back to the bouncer, hopefully with one touch. Then s/he receives the ball again and again until the bouncer makes the call, "Turn".

Hopefully, you can get your team doing this in practice and then in competition matches.

Another progression is for the ball carrying player to pass the ball to the bouncer, then instead of receiving the ball straight on, as in a straight pass, the ball carrier peels off to the side to create a diagonal passing lane.

This enables the ball carrier to receive the ball with a better body shape to play forwards. It also enables them to see more of the pitch in a forward position.

Next progression, is to have the ball carrier take a quick look, just after they the pass the ball to the bouncer, to see if any player is bearing down on them.
