news.com.au wrote:'We're sick of fat people whingeing'
FAT people are exactly like dole bludgers. They complain, whinge and take everything they can for free without taking responsibility for their health. That’s the bold view of Julius and Sharny Kieser, the Queensland-based personal training team, who are also husband and wife, who run a dynamic health and fitness business focused purely on benefiting people who are already fit.
“We’re sick of fat people complaining and moaning about their weight, like they are victims. There is a small proportion of obese people who genuinely need help. The problem is the other group of people who are fat and lazy; who just take advantage of all the help that is out there because they think they deserve it,” said Julius.
“Twenty years ago it was mean to point out the one fat kid in the class, because he or she genuinely had a problem. But now, 80 to 90 per cent of us are overweight if not obese and it’s become un-PC to say anything about that.”
Julius believes there is now even a backlash against fit people. So instead of fat people being made to feel awkward, he says that fit people are often made to feel bad about making their health a priority.
“Bad health is one of the worst things you can have, probably our most poignant problem in the world today,” Julius says. “That said, having a drug addiction and poor financial health are probably just as bad.
“Fit people can be influenced by the people around them. As they steadily choose to live a healthy life they can become side-tracked by the people closest to them, like their husband or wife. We give them advice and tips to help them keep going on the healthy path. Hopefully this will widen the gap so that they’ll eventually inspire other people around them to live healthily too,” said Julius.
Athletes and CEOS make up the bulk of the couple’s clientele and both present unique training challenges.
“Fit people aren’t all size eight, they come in all shapes and sizes. Fit people come in all shapes and sizes; it’s about the part of the brain that they allow themselves to rely on. The’ fit’ part of the brain that encourages exercise and healthy eating and the ‘fat’ brain which is lazy and tells you not to bother,” said Sharny.
Time is the biggest constraint for people in high-powered positions.
“It’s common for CEOS that we train to be time poor, but we teach them how to be entrepreunial about their fitness. Instead of taking an hour out of your day, and conserving your energy throughout the hour, we encourage them to use intensity. Fifteen or twenty minute sessions where they are working at their peak,” said Julius.
The couple also focuses on reminding their clients that it’s not selfish to focus on making health and exercise a priority.
“When people are time poor they can feel guilty about taking time out from family to exercise, but the truth is if you don’t look after yourself, you cannot look after anyone else,” said Julius.
Julius and Sharny’s lessons for a healthy life
1. Don’t accept that you’re fat. "You should be uncomfortable about it, you should be ashamed about it. You need to do something about it."
2. Only you know your body, listen to it and trust yourself. Notice how certain foods and exercise make you feel and adapt them into your life or learn to live without them.
3. Realise that you are the leader in your life. Be inspiring to yourself and those around you by committing to your health and fitness goals. Give them everything you have got.
4. When it comes to diet, only change one thing at a time. Don’t try and cut out grains and sugar and alcohol all at once. Try one thing and notice the effect it has on your body before you take it on board long-term.

a controversial topic
is cigarette smoking an effective form of appetite suppression?
If you smoke, your sense of taste and smell is dulled. Thus nullifying that gnawing hinger a person has for 5 or even 6 meals a day Another thing was sometimes people 'eat because theyre bored' if they smoked they can divert the boredom to smoke instead of snacking on fattening junk foods
I dont see smokers complaining they 'could eat half a goat'
The anti tobacco lobbyists would be outraged at this statement
but they would kill for a cigarette
hmmm...

Ugh, it's a touchy subject. Quite often there are underlying mental health issues at work that facilitate being overweight. Fat shaming isn't really the answer. Society needs to understand that being fat shouldn't be justified or applauded but that shouldn't give free license to shame others for being overweight. The more we accept obesity the more people will become obese, yet the more we criminalise it fat people will eat worse out of depression or guilt.
Agree that mental resolve is a big factor in weight loss, but a lot of people just don't have that level of strength. We value a frenetic, high stress society (especially in major cities) and this fuels fast food culture. I think more benefit could be found in regulating fast food outlets in the same way as bars and nightclubs are, and providing incentive for cheap natural food outlets to open. If we had more of a cafe culture where meals were relaxed affairs with friends and colleagues, prepared fresh rather than fast, I believe obesity would be much less of a problem.
Body health is an important issue for me, as someone who was once overweight (I lost 40kg over the course of a year and a half from mid 2006 to be at the lower end of my healthy weight range before building back up to mid/upper range) I am fortunate enough to have extreme willpower and stubbornness, and I lack an addictive personality. It was no issue for me to move to drinking only water and cutting sugars out of my diet (well the sugars a back now, but only once I developed an understanding of how to regulate my input and not over-indulge constantly) and to run until I felt I had to stop but force myself to keep going. Others can't do this though, they just aren't wired that way. For someone who can't relish taking the hard path, being healthy has to be made the easy option. I honestly believe it can be, in theory, but it requires a big shift in the way our society works.

The reason why there are so much more fat people is because of the way food has evolved in the last 30 years. 30 years ago you didn't have as much flavor enhancers and MSG and highly refined sugar which is the worst culprit. Food companies are large cooperation now and are only looking after their profits so what ever they can legally get away with they do. A lot of MSG's are chemically designed to make your brain crave more food.
Educated people know all this and make the correct purchasing choices at the super market where as a low income earner or someone below the threshold is likely to be more obese as these types of foods are cheaper and highly accessible.
To help obesity there really needs to be more eduction in schools with nutrition and there also needs to be stricter guidelines for big food cooperation to not chemically fuck with our brains.
The people in the article are cunts really because they are not looking at the issue from a broader perspective and just comparing themselves to fat people.

Sloth...its not just a health issue...we've become a bunch of fat little piggies, just about ready for slaughter by the BRIC nations
China especially has been up until recently feeding the Western world a whole bunch of cheap debt, making us lazy and consumption orientated...we dont even produce much anymore...dont worry piggy, here have another welfare cheque, pork chop and plasma tv!
Oh well at least here in Oz we have direct currency convertability into yuan...the USDs days as the worlds reserve currency are numbered...hopefully the new reserve will be backed by something more than fiat paper.
China and Russia are more capitalist and hard working than the US and Europe so at least thats something...fingers crossed we become more than just a glorified mine/agriculture plantation...oink, oink...stay on the couch piggy, we have 457s to pick up the slack...

Quote:Julius believes there is now even a backlash against fit people. So instead of fat people being made to feel awkward, he says that fit people are often made to feel bad about making their health a priority. this part really hit home for me. atm i'm training for football twice a week, playing football once a week, playing ultimate frisbee once a week, running every night & the occasional game of basketball/fifa street. i'm getting back to my finely-tuned athletic machine specs, and am feeling good. but what i'm finding is my mrs, my family, my coworkers etc - they're stuck in their usual rut and aren't getting fitter/healthier/skinnier, and they're making me feel shit for getting a step-up on them. while i know it's purely jealousy, getting made to feel bad for me feeling good about myself makes me feel a little shit. and i'm not going around saying "check out my 6 pack, it's back!" - they're just noticing and telling me to calm down. some of the rest of that article is a little heavy-handed (excuse the pun) imo

I'm sick of self-righteous arseholes telling other people how to live.
Who do these douchebags think they are?
And there's anti-fitness sentiment? Get your hand off it. Everywhere you look there's some kind of fitness/weightloss dross being pushed down our throats.
For the record I'm a shorter, skinny guy who actually struggles to put on weight, but I just feel so bad for bigger people when they're constantly facing this sort of stuff. Not sure why these wankers feel they need to abuse others because they dont fit their idea of what a person should be or look like.
Shows like The Biggest Loser disgust me, not because there are fat people on it, but because they treat these people like they are sub-human creatures that should be ridiculed or pitied. There are so many reasons why people are fat. Mental, physical and sometimes their bodies are just more prone to being larger. People who just say "oh it's your own fault, you have no self-control and are disgusting" really have NFI.
