This weekend, earlier than usual in the year, we have our state Regional Conference.

Keynote presenters are Han Berger and Kelly Cross.

Has anyone else had theirs?

I've been talking to another state branch of FFA today on another matter.

Apparently, this week's Tasmanian Regional FFA Conference is a prototype for future conferences and coaches are coming from other parts of Australia.

If I have space in the car I may be able to assist with lifts to and from the Conference if you PM me and I'm not full.

Kelly Cross, Norm Boardman, Rob Sherman and Han Berger took training ground sessions with the Tassie NTC yesterday and today.

Han Berger is a fantastic coach on the training ground. Without doubt, the best we have here.=d>

With HB's sessions and keynote addresses, I'd urge anyone to attend your Regional Conference. The Tassie one is the first of a prototype for Regional Conferences around the country.

Berger will be a big loss for Australian football when he leaves next June.

In Han Berger's keynote address, he showed a video of Australia playing Brazil. To the astonishment of the 180 or so attending the conference, he candidly highlighted the strengths of Brazilian players and the weaknesses of ours.

He was emphatic that it was difficult for Holger, or any other coach, to coach a team and perform to a high level in world football with the qualities the current Australian players have.

Even more amazing, certainly to me, many of the practical training ground exercises for all the coaches at the conference, were devised to coach and improve weaknesses identified in the Socceroos against Oman earlier this year. This is supposed to be our most elite team!

All the biggest names within the upper echelons of Australian FFA were there. Most of the big FFA names took training ground sessions. Han Berger's training ground sessions were outstanding with the Tassie NTC. A shame he leaves FFA next June. He will be a massive loss to Australian football.

The FFA new revised NC will be out next Friday.

I have it on memory stick. They were issued at the Conference to attending coaches.

There are a lot more prescriptive training ground for specific problems identified in one's team.

Some I've already put on here in the Elite Coaching Practices thread, from doing sessions with some elite coaches. The difference is the diagrammatic detail in Powerpoint pictures.

The Conference workbook was excellent this year for practical training ground sessions.

I'd urge any coach to go this year. The best I've been to.=d>

Disappointingly, there are still a lot of coaches I know who feel they get nothing from these conferences. Usually, it is the ones who don't always go.

There are also a number of others who only attend for extrinsic reasons - because the club forces then to go, as FFA state branches pressure clubs to send coaches to become accredited.

One point though is that most of the training ground practices are devised for elite - the HAL and NPL clubs, not so much the Grass Roots clubs.

One question I've been asked on PM is if the remodelled NC is handed out to all coaches at the Regional conference.

The answer is yes.

It is not a book though, but a memory stick for one's computer.

One of the features of the conference was a course book with illustrated training ground exercises.

I think all were performed by Norm Boardman, Kelly Cross, Rob Sherman or Han Berger on the pitch .

It was good to see the theory carried out in practice. This was an absolute stand out for the Regional conference.
