From Football NSW Facebook page:

Quote:
The Waratah Cup will continue to be coordinated along the same principles as it has done in
previous seasons.

The Quarter Final cup stage (8 teams) will act as the qualification fixtures for the
FFA Cup; the winners of the respective matches (4 teams) will gain eligibility for entry to the FFA
Cup. The losers of the respective fixtures (4 teams) will play off in a fixture for two spots into the
FFA Cup. The losers of the two playoff matches (2 teams) will play off in a further playoff match for
the final position that is available for the FFA Cup. The playoff teams will be seeded prior to the
Waratah Cup commencing through the pre cup draw procedure.

So basically the four semi finalists will qualify, and the four losing teams from the quarter finals will play off against each other for the other 3 spots.

In the interests of nostalgia, does this mean then it will be fairly simples for Fury to qualify? They only have to beat FNQ as main rivals? PB?

Fury must beat a local team from Townsville, then two further matches against regional sides that could include NPL teams FNQ Heat (Cairns) and CQ Energy (Rockhampton).

Should easily beat CQ and the local team, but FNQ are pretty good. Lost to them last season.

Wish we still had Edds etc right now, never know though, maybe Fergie is good at this level, we shall find out!

Fury get it fucking easy compared to the rest of the state, let alone the other State League clubs. That said, I'm hardly complaining when I'm pretty much a fan seeing how i go to their games when they play in SEQ. \:d/

Will have to catch you next time I'm in Brissy to see em play.

Out of interest, here is the path that Tuggeranong United took to win the Federation Cup and qualify for the FFA Cup.

(P) is penalty score, and all dates are obviously in 2013.

And by my count, this is where the qualifying is currently at (give or take a few results in Queensland that I haven't been able to find results for):

not even an automatic qualification like promised. what a farce.

Hadn't seen this posted anywhere, although it may be of interest to some that NNSW film their draws and post them on YouTube. These fixtures announced are for Round 2 in the Northern Pool (March 15/16).

It could become a promotion relegation tournament and provides a nationalised second tier. I would be happy for now.

Because it's nice to know who is the best of the 2nd Div, like TSF had said, nationalises it.

This is the first FFA Cup season, I'd imagine ALOT will be tweaked for future seasons once the dust has settled.

I thought a trophy for winning a seperate tournament is something. All expense paid trip to Hobart, being crowned the first evey npl champs is nothing? I've also never read anything official confirming a spot, although I'm happy to be corrected.

I dare say Rudes may have been told something off the record by one of his fox mates, that's snowballed into fact, and now a few people at utd who trumpeted that they'd get a spot have been left with egg on their face.

I don't recall this promise ever being made and it sounds stupid that a second tier domestic will guarantee a spot in the final stages of the cup comp.

this is coming directly from our board.

We will just do it the hard way, if we cant beat teams lower than us, clearly we dont deserve to be there.

Anyways it will be interesting to see, if the NPL 2014 champion gets direct entry for season 2 of the FFA Cup.

No it wasn't.

Automatic FFA Cup qualification was never part of the NPL Championship. I dont see why that would have changed after the fact or why they'd change it for future editions of the Cup.

Someone may have flagged the possibility of it with the club at some point but I doubt that a promise was ever made. If somebody at the club has taken a couple of comments/discussions as a 'promise' then they're idiots.

I'm no fan of the FFA, but let's not make claims we cant be sure of

You've only ever quoted one person to me... and he's not on the board

But yes, if the club was convinced by someone then they are idiots. If promises were made, then I'm sure the club would be kicking up a stink about the whole thing.

The fact that there hasn't been a peep from the club tells me that those in the know were never under the impression that we were handed an automatic spot

"Directly from the board"

No it wasn't.

Automatic FFA Cup qualification was never part of the NPL Championship. I dont see why that would have changed after the fact or why they'd change it for future editions of the Cup.

Someone may have flagged the possibility of it with the club at some point but I doubt that a promise was ever made. If somebody at the club has taken a couple of comments/discussions as a 'promise' then they're idiots.

I'm no fan of the FFA, but let's not make claims we cant be sure of

heard it from more than one person, 'on the board'

i guess they are ALL idiots.

nevermind, we will do it the hard way.

You've only ever quoted one person to me... and he's not on the board

But yes, if the club was convinced by someone then they are idiots. If promises were made, then I'm sure the club would be kicking up a stink about the whole thing.

The fact that there hasn't been a peep from the club tells me that those in the know were never under the impression that we were handed an automatic spot

cause i tell you every conversation i've had?

like i said, we will do it the hard way, and let's leave it at that.

At least one minor side is guaranteed to reach the semi-finals, with 10 games to be broadcast on Fox Sports and a modest prizemoney pool of $120,000 including $40,000 for the winning team.
