Off to Sydney perhaps

https://www.news.com.au/sport/football/smoke-and-mirrors-situation-an-unwanted-problem-at-central-coast-mariners/news-story/763aea27fd1d6ee104d4d38fec737593

Uncertainty continues to harm the Mariners, where a power struggle has emerged between title-winning coach Mark Jackson and Labinot Haliti, who has been brought to Central Coast in a football director-type role by Damon Hanlin, the president of Sydney Olympic who is understood to be investing heavily in the Gosford-based club despite an ownership proposal yet to be approved by the Australian Professional Leagues.

Haliti is also the coach of the Sydney Olympic team taking part in upcoming Australian Championship.

Olympic’s Kiwi midfielder Seth Clark will also join the Mariners in the January transfer window following Olympic’s Australian Championship campaign in a signing understood to have been forced upon Jackson by Haliti.

Player payments were also late this month, leading to the Mariners being probed by Professional Footballers Australia.

Congrats to the Mariners for landing Richard Peil, owner of Anytime Fitness Gyms, onto the board officially, to eventually go from investing, to taking over the ailing club in the near future.
As Richard mentioned in Perthnow.com.au, he has high aspirations for the club to be as competitive as any of the other clubs.
Looks like things won't be as previously, merely surviving. Mariners will not need to relocate with news like that.

Has Peil pulled out of being the CEO of the Canberra licence bid with Bernal?

Yes.
I think the original price put forward was probably unreasonable thus the 51% original purchase.
His kid is also in the Academy set up which is a worry.

Central Coast Stadium is owned and (as of February) managed by Gosford Council. Do you really think that the council would commit funding for the construction & maintenance of a second 15,000+ seat stadium that would leave CCS practically idle?

About the only other possibilities would be to get Wyong Council to kick in for grandstands at either the CoE or the proposed regional sports facility at Tuggerah, and I can't see either of those options getting up.

They are established up the Coast, they have that centre of excellence and they are the Central Coast Mariners. If they were to play anywhere else it would be detrimental to their 9K fans that turn up on a weekly basis.

The cynic in me though says the current owners want to relocate the team.

If the FFA wants to expand beyond the major city centres and develop a solid foot-hold in regional areas, then the Mariners need to stay. When it comes to on-field success and crowds per-capita, it's hard to fault them. If the Mariners are forced to relocate to North Sydney or the Northern Beaches in spite of this, then we might as well give up on the idea of ever having teams in the Illawarra, North Queensland, Geelong etc.

Spot on - Charlesworth needs to look out of the square instead of the short term fix having games in Sydney work with the FFA and close regional areas getting grounds more suitable for CCM's use and grow more support that way for eg......
If worse let them go nearer into the Jets areas so as to piss stir their lot - seems to always be the Jerks giving it to them mind you mariners have the silverware :p

Above all keep out of sydney !

We shouldn't have kicked out NQF and GCU. With the decline of rugby league and union, we would have a foot in the door of Queensland. We have had huge news since: a national second division, a cup comp, hosing rights of 2015 afc Asian cup, World Cup qualification. It would mean more teams to play and a less stale league. Now there is a real buzz in the football world.

Absolutely not. CCM's last two matches this season will probably see them average over 10k for 13/14 despite a indifferent season.

Take some of their smaller games there, be a decent boost for the Woy Woy/Umina economy.

The A-league needs to learn that there are small teams especially if they are not from massive City's but that does not mean they should just move or fold. I think if promotion and relegation come in teams will either be backed financially or not as most football clubs in the world run at a loss or go to a division where they ca break even. For CCM to be profitable they will most likely need to sell players for significant fees but with the A-league as it is that is not going to happen or they need a lot more revenue from Sponsors/TV/ACL as they are unlikely to ever have massive attendances.

Looking at football in Europe you have teams like Villareal who most people would say are way bigger than any A-league team but they average 17k at home this season and are from a city of 51k. Football is for everyone but the way we are obsessed with attendances it seems like we want to to get it so only 6 cities can host teams.

=d>

Very well said, folks complain about europe not being *equal* enough. But at least they are representative of all population centres and region sizes.

Id rather have an unequal league that includes areas like the central coast, as opposed to the current strayan level playing field approach....which is only viable for large population catchments for the most part.

The parameters around the league need to change to make not only CC viable, but other areas like it.

I'd like to see CCM relocate purely because I'd like to see the butthurt of it happening from the fans. Charlesworth has wanted to relocate the team from the moment he set foot in the place.

I don't see a problem with shifting a couple games a year to North Sydney. If it improves their bottom line, while keeping a large majority of games on the Central Coast, what's the problem?
