Was a penalty-why would a defender be that stupid so to put his hand on the shoulder of striker backing in to him when inside the penalty box. The fact that Fred over-acted after the fact is neither here nor there.

I question the Cro keeper for both of the other goals-both weak shots from distance with the keeper too slow to react.

Not sure that the Cros should have played with what are in effect two number 10's in Modric and Raketic against an attacking team like Brazil.

Another player from another team probably would've seen red for Neymar's elbow, which funnily enough was 2 minutes before his first goal.

True about the final I suppose. I guess you could make bans carry over post tournament (not that it'd matter if you've just won the WC) for players that were still playing.

That's an obvious loophole you've pointed out but if you enact my system at least the cheats aren't going to make the final.

But otherwise agree. Review simulations (well obvious ones anyway). I think even if the penalty is warranted for Fred the theatrics weren't, and therefore even if the review panel agreed with the decision of the referee Fred's reaction was not warranted (except for a post match ban).

This. 100% correct. From the angle the ref had you can see why he gave it even though it was bullshit from any of the other 1500 camera angles.

Why wouldn't you try and con the ref? The payoff for conning him is way higher than the penalty for being caught. Until something is done c#nts are going to go down every tournament from now until forever.

My very easy solution to this, seeing you can't change the score post-match, is to review matches after and hand out suspensions for clear instances of diving.

You can bet your arse as soon as the first couple of suspensions are handed out the diving, cheating, simulating fuckers wouldn't be game to try it on.

100% doable by a panel of say 3 former refs and players and a 100% cleanup of the game would result.

Agree a lot, so many times both teams ganged up on the ref looking to lynch him, scolari made Kovac look pretty tame on the sideline too :lol:

On the pen, it looked like he was facing the contest directly in front so would've seen a hand over the shoulder and Fred flop from a sniper shot, a little more to the side he would've seen there was no real grab
Really hope Fred wasn't planning on using this world cup to get a big fat contract somewhere, but to be fair the one thing he did the whole game he did well

I didn't watch the full game but from the replay it looked like a fair penalty. The croatian player had a fair grip on the brazilian with both hands and sure he milked it but that's the risk you take when you've got your hands on the player in the penalty box, especially in a world cup fixture in front of his home crowd, and a FIFA assigned ref.:lol:

Ironically in the AFL the penalty would have been a free kick for over the shoulder contact ...

I personally think the ref should have booked Fred for diving, no where else on the field would this have been a free kick. This would have set the standard for the world cup.

Secondly, after giving the penalty the ref should have warned the Croatian players to back off or start handing out yellow cards. Again set the standard.

FIFA failed on both these fronts!

Yeah - although the penalty was definitely at the softer end of the scale, the striker was being held back with a hand on the shoulder.

I thought the referee was very ordinary he allowed players to barge in from the back all the time.
Players are not going to be able to play possesion football with such a referee.
The two good decisions the ref did make was the penalty and the foul against the goal keeper by Olic.
It was a stupid reach in when the Croatian defender had players around him to help block the shot,
it wasn;t Simunic on Viduka like with a rugby tackle in the area but because the player was trying to turn at the same time the hand on shoulder was enough to make him go down.
The third goal by Brazil had a clear foul by Ramirez on Modric.

I thought so, but then to have so many defenders and not stop Oscar from getting a toe poke off is a bit deplorable.
