People are also assuming that FFA made Fury (and other clubs) aware of such mandate as it seems to be pretty clear that this is the first anyone has ever heard of it.

Might even be worth getting on the blower to a couple of the other NPL teams that played the likes of Glory etc in the past few weeks to see if such a mandate was in place for their referees.

Based on the article, seems pretty clear to me that Fury have known of the requirement for some time, hence their 'proposed compromise' to the FFA. There doesn't seem to be anything in the article from Fury saying that the requirement has been imposed on them at the last minute.

Seems to me that it is the cost (not the underlying requirement) which Fury are now objecting to. Fury really seem to have dropped the ball entirely on this whole issue.

Glory's game v Inglewood was reffed by David Bruce who is a regular 4th official but not on the A League panel as far as I am aware. I also saw him ref Glory's first pre-season friendly against Melbourne Heart last season.

I couldn't say for sure, I can't find a panel list from last year for A-League, and nothing for NYC. If he's getting 4th official assignments for the A-League, I'd be surprised if he wasn't at least on the NYC panel as a middle.

Fury knew (or at the very least should've) known the rules.

But let's assume FFA bend the rules for them this time. Then every club is going to expect the same going forward.

And everyone will still whinge about 'how shit' A-Leagues refs are.

Alternatively, they let the tourney go ahead, refs get experience where any mistakes aren't a big deal in preseason, and with that experience become better referees and the standard, in fact, improves.

But not the current standard of A-League refs. You know, the ones involved in our domestic showpiece who are "shit".

Mind you, one of the first things I say to people who want some random referee dropped is "And who replaces him?"

Development of the NPL referees is important for developing the talent pathway.

A-League refs don't just fall from the sky, they come up through the state leagues, like the ones Fury were hoping to use.

I agree. But making an exception in this case only jeopardizes all future games where A-League refs really need to be practising, because as is universally held, A-League refs are "shit".

Hardly, when one actually reads the article.

The real poor form seems to be from the Fury going to the media over this in an effort to 'shame and blame' the FFA for their own incompetency.

But that seems par for the course up there in NQ. Wouldn't be the first time that for sure.

People just seem to be critical of the FFA for the fun of it.

The facts are that decisions often just seem to made by other parties that just seem to ignore the policies in place. Going and crying later on that you will have to pay it when its been spelt out clearly already is hardly doing them any favours.

In future, work on a plan that is mutually beneficial early on, get approval and then announce an event. This one just smacks of bad planning unfortunately.

^^^Its a drop of piss in the FFA's budget though, and worth it for the goodwill and marketing, and mending the past.

When I think back at the fact that the FFA let NQF die over a $1 mill or so, and there was a billionaire shopping centre owner as the chief, it really was a bad joke. On the plus side, it would have given us another 3 rounds per season, good will from the local community, and a pathway for the local footballers. Massively stingy decision.

All this. The new Fury already burning bridges with the FFA. Good luck with your A-League bid.

Oh I see, I hadn't thought about that...

Aren't any bridges to burn, FFA already did that.

So why then have the new Fury been talking about their plan/aim to get back into the A-League within 5 years?

Maybe you think the NQ community is done with the FFA, but that's not what's coming out of new Fury management. They're certainly not doing themselves any favours here in that respect.

There has got to be a massive question mark over this Rabieh Krayem and his motivation.
I have read some thing about people complaining about high rego fees for the youth teams there.
Rabieh Krayem is the former Cowboys rugby league club director and a businessman who left a company bankrupt owing millions.
Is he really doing it all to help the Cowboys get a new stadium.
They need to have an A-league team be there or plan to be there to get the money for the proposed new stadium.
If its so important then let the Cowboys or the NRL pay for the refs, or fund the A-league team but stop bothering the FFA.

Really? You bend the rules for one and you then build an expectation that no one else would need to do so. If that happened, then that "drop of piss in the FFA's budget" doesn't look so small after all

I don't think the FFA owe NQ anything. Its great to see the Fury Mk 2 having such grand plans, but it doesn't mean they are any more entitled to a freebie than anyone else really.
