poll aggregates have clinton up by 4-5. Its early but trumps post nomination bounce seems very short lived. It could also be one of the smallest post nomination bounces. He went from 6 points behind to 1.5 at the peak. He may bump back up there until clinton gets the nomination. It will be interesting to see how big her bump will be

Something about it being inappropriate to debate a 2nd placed finisher in a rigged system and how the TV networks are being too greedy

I thought Trump was all man

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Donald Trump’s latest speech has environmental activists worried

WHEN you think of saving the planet, Donald Trump probably isn’t exactly the first name to come to mind.
He’s previously described global warming as “an expensive hoax!”, warned Obama that the Environmental Protective Agency is “an impediment to both growth and jobs”, and admitted he’s “not a big believer in man-made climate change”.
It’s safe to say his thoughts on the matter could even make the likes of Tony “Climate change is absolute crap” Abbott blush.
But the Republican frontrunner’s latest speech was something next-level. Speaking at the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference in Bismarck, the capital of oil-rich North Dakota, Trump proudly trumpeted a series of anti-environmental measures to be enforced if he becomes President.
The scariest part is his audience seems to be lapping it up.

Incredible naivety, Azza. The only loser from a Trump/Sanders debate is Clinton.

Trump won't be debating Sanders, he will be playing up his anti-establishment cred, throwing "Crooked Hillary" into the mix as possible and empathising with Sanders supporters who have been let down by the DNC.

Sanders now has close to parity appointments to the platform committee, but he will still want as many delegates as possible to go to the convention with and continue to push for progressive reform.

Hahahahahaha! Very true. It would be entertaining, I won't deny that.

I just don't think it is in Trump's interest to debate with someone who is not a candidate for president. He risks being shown up by a "loser" (in Trump's language).

What is the point of this exactly?

It would be like having a Hillary v Cruz debate....

Because Shillary is far too correct to debate anymore and if Trump and Bernie wanna do it then get your popcorn

But Sanders is not going to be the Democrat nominee. So what is the point in anyone debating him?

He won't be speaking for any Hillary policy positions.

Like I said, this would be like Ted Cruz coming out tomorrow and challenging Hillary to a debate. Pointless!

Yep - it is so utterly self-defeating.

The mentality of many hardcore Trump supporters is one of being the victim.

These protestors that commit violence are just providing them with evidence to confirm that viewpoint.

I support the right to protest. But Trump and his supporters have the right to free assembly.

Exactly right. There's protesting and then there's causing a scene where you ultimately get removed or attract police attention. If police have to use tear gas it makes Trump opposition look like the loonies rather than the idiots who think building a 30ft wall will stop illegal immigrants

Trump won't go anywhere windy, so Clinton would be favourite for outdoors attack

Indoors, maybe an exploding Hooker would get Trump but more likely Bill.

Speaking of the 2008 Dem primaries, I find it hypocritical of Clinton to accuse Trump of racism/other -isms when she herself used dog-whistle attacks on Obama.

I hope Bernie drags it out until the end, the longer he stays in the more damage he does to Clinton and the potentially more divided the party will become.

Please tell me more about how Trump can't possibly win.

Interesting discussion over this article on the fivethirtyeight election podcast - there are caveats over the methodology used by the various polls used in the aggregation data.

However, it does seem that Republican voters are falling in behind him as the candidate - becoming normalised.

Their conclusion is that it is still early days, but there has definitely been tightening with Trump consolidating republican support.

But still very hard to tell.

538 have been wrong far more than they have been right in this cycle, and they're making the same mistakes now that they did when they discounted Trump and Sanders all throughout the Republican primaries.

It's a pretty simple equation now. In their desperation to nominate Clinton, the DNC are missing the forest for the trees and alienating more and more Sanders supporters to the point where without some kind of serious intervention (like adopting a chunk of Sanders platform) they are going to hand Trump the presidency.

Not at all - certainly they were late to recognise Trump's rise, but so was everyone else.

They even put up a very interesting article explaining how they missed it, and why they got that wrong.

In terms of individual primaries, they've been pretty spot on whenever there has been decent polling data in the lead-up.

I think you are completely wrong re the Democrats. If the Republicans can coalesce behind such a polarising figure as Trump, then the same will happen with the Dems.

All that has happened is that the Republican Primaries, and Trump, were sucking in all the media attention. Now that race is over, all the attention is on the Dems.

Not to say the presidential race won't be more competitive than was previously thought, but the Sanders v Clinton battle is just primary politics. 4 years ago we were having the same debate about Hillary supporters supposedly never going to support Obama. But they ended up falling in behind him once it was settled.

For me the biggest unpredictable variable is how unpopular Clinton and Trump both are. Their high level of "unfavourables" are unprecedented historically.
