Meh, just make all drugs legal and let the consumers decide what they put in their bodies. Then you take the money out of the cartels hands and can regulate tax and contents.

Nothing new, NRL is intertwined with the bikies these days, those two Knights players were the drug dealers that would have kept Jardel Supplied.

The real crime is the waste of taxpayers money fighting a completely ineffectual "drug war". Bloke was probably just splitting a bag with mates.

As expected. On channel 7, this appeared for 30 seconds two hours ago on the 'Breaking News' bar, the program host couldn't even say it was Karmichael Hunt even though his name was on the screen. Hasn't appeared since on any news bulletin.

Good to see the drug policy working so well in these sports. They brag about how they have the best policies in the world, 3 strikes, education and all that.

Have seen this described as a potential career ender for Hunt if he's found guilty. It most definitely won't be.

Hell when i went to a ophthalmologist he was an ex wallabies player. The problem players are the ones that haven't got a career beale comes to mind. The news is saying that there is 4 gold coast titian players as well and the crimes are back when hunt was at the suns. No wonder why teams on the coast never do well. to busy on the drugs. People are kidding themselves if they think Union doesn't have the same recreational drug use as league. Nothing screams little white baggy more than a rich private school kid with too much time on their hands. They just have enough sense not to get caught

Have been following this all day and it appears Hunt & the couple of Titans boys have been collateral damage to a cocaine trafficking syndicate case (involving ex league player Jason Smith). Looks like he has acquired some cocaine and shared it with some mates.
A really dumb thing to do and he should've known better but I hope his life isn't destroyed of what appears to be some minor recreational drug use.

I think there is a little arrogance in our football community that we won't have this sort of problem, because we aren't full of "boofhead neanderthal" players. But the only reason we don't have these problems is because we aren't a dominant code. Once A-League players become the higher paid and worshipped individuals like League players are in NSW/Qld or AFL players are in Vic/SA, we will have just as many incidents of players getting drunk, getting into fights at clubs, sexual indiscretions, drug problems and the like. A look at almost every sporting market in the world shows you this. Football in Europe/SA has all the problems that League/AFL have here and that basketball/NFL have in America.

I don't think it will be a problem in the A-league just because these are the types of problems you generally see with players who have "made it". In the AFL, NRL, Union you basically reach the pinnacle of your sport i can see how that can go to a player's head. Whereas players in the A-league generally have the goal of moving overseas and don't see themselves as having "made it", despite being established first teamers

Looks like if they're found guilty it could be worldwide 4 year bans for the Titans players which would essentially end Bird's career.

Over the weekend they said there are at least 7 Titans involved (1 a former player). 6 charges will be lain with the 7th guy under investigation. Also looking into the Suns roster......

I doubt very much that they'd get 4 years, from memory Mathew Stokes was charged with possession and trafficking of cocaine. Managed to make a deal with prosecutors to drop the trafficking charge and only got an 8 weeks suspension.

In the grand scheme of things these charges appear minor (provided Hunt & co weren't receiving payments for supplying) I'd expect all these footballers to roll on Smith, Seers, Thomas & anyone else high up in the chain and make a deal with prosecutors. Birds career is probably over though. If police have been monitoring this for 5 months and given Jason Smiths decorated career I'd expect a lot more than six or seven footballers to be charged though.

It wasn't off the most reliable source but I've heard it could be as many as 7 former Broncos named this week with 5 current players in the firing line as well.
The further this unravels the smaller the penalties are likely to be, and I would think the more likely it would be any trafficking or dealing charges are dropped and they become purely possession charges. So in reality reputations will be more damaged than any players careers IMO.

-PB Enjoying the blow. I imagine quite a few players across all codes enjoy it and I also imagine they are not just taking a few bumps here and there either. Coke and E seems to be pretty rampant across aussie sportsman. Given how stupid NRL players tend to be though it doesn't surprise me they are the ones being caught out. I highly doubt the players were dealing or anything like that but their personal use amount was probably quite high. Probably quite a few players will be praying there phone doesn't ring with some unfortunate news in the coming days. Edited by damonzzzz: 25/2/2015 04:51:38 PM

I no people like to lay the boot into footy players, but it really is a reflection of society. You go out to most clubs on a busy night now and it's full of people on the gear, looking for gear or who have it in the past. I think football fans should avoid laying the boot into the other codes on this one, because as the A-League grows and players become better paid and more recognized in the community, these stories will inevitably emerge about them as well.

Interesting article on FS today about the turnovers of some of these clubs. Some are just staggering, like the Panthers making profit in the 10+mil range. -PB

-PB Pokies? I remember reading about this a few years ago and if IIRC a lot of the clubs aren't stand alone entities but rather apart of a greater organisation. For example the Panthers rugby league club comes under a company called the "Penrith Panthers' or something like that. Most of the profit comes from endeavours outside the running of the actual team.

Coke and E seems to be pretty rampant across aussie sportsman. Yeah I've seen plenty of Aussie Rules footballers on nights out liberally and blatantly enjoying the gear in their off seasons. The first year of my undergrad I was at a bar where a few of the teams ended up after their 'Mad Monday' celebrations and every time I looked down there were heaps of discarded baggies littered around the beer garden, I don't know how they don't get caught more often. oh they probably do get caught but remember tbe three strike rule. Yeah the rule is a joke. I meant more in terms of people just snapping a photo and having it blow up on social media or sold to the press though, I've seen some fairly high profile young players blatantly passing around baggies in crowded beer gardens.

For example the Panthers rugby league club comes under a company called the "Penrith Panthers' or something like that. Most of the profit comes from endeavours outside the running of the actual team. Yes mate see below : The Panthers Group is one of the largest group of clubs in NSW, comprising of 8 licensed venues and the Penrith Panthers NRL team. The Panthers Group is creating “your world of entertainment” through multiple leisure, lifestyle and hospitality experiences for not only greater western Sydney but regional NSW. With a combined membership of more than 170,000, each club provides a wide range of activities for members, their families and guests. Penrith Panthers is currently undergoing a major redevelopment, and similar projects are envisaged for the other precincts that host Panthers venues. The Group currently employs almost 1000 staff. The Panthers Group takes pride in our position as a community owned organisation. The contribution that a registered club plays in its community varies, but we’re proud that the profits of the Panthers Group provide improved facilities or benefits for our members and our communities including our ‘Panthers on the Prowl’ Community Development Foundation.

I keep seeing these "grants" mentioned as well that a few clubs have picked up that seems to be the difference between making a 200k loss or a 5mil+ profit? -PB
