Liverpool is not in Macarthur, so no. It would also encroach too much on Wanderers territory. Campbelltown Stadium is perfectly situated for the new team, it just needs some upgrades (wouldn't even have to cost that much seeing as the main grandstand is in pretty good shape).

Ok.

i have to start posting these again

“LIVERPOOL Mayor Ned Mannoun has a unique sporting dream — to see a Liverpool A-League team, backed by English Premier League giants Liverpool FC, pack out a 35,000-seat Liverpool stadium. It wouldn’t just be any stadium — Mr Mannoun wants a roofed venue that converts into a convention and exhibition centre, just like the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona which hosted the Super Bowl this month.“The grass is actually on rollers that can be wheeled out into the sun and can’t be damaged when you stage conventions — a true multipurpose venue,’’ he said. With Sydney’s second international airport set to be built at Badgerys Creek, on Liverpool’s doorstep, the city has a once-in-a-century chance to turn its struggle streets into avenues of opportunity.”

Not sure but looks like the photo on the thread article used a pic of the original plan (iirc)

It depends on the stadium. If you do something like Hindmarsh but with roofs it could be a lot cheaper than that. And many of the grounds don't have to be new-builds, they can just be renovations to modernise them (e.g. Brookvale, Penrith).

If I were to pick four grounds, I would go for: Campbelltown, Brookvale, Cronulla and Penrith. Campbelltown has a full-time A-League side and some NRL matches (Wests Tigers could move more games there if the stadium is upgraded). The other three have full-time NRL sides who are never going to leave, and could potentially host second division football teams (e.g. Manly Utd, Sutherland Sharks and Blacktown City or a new Penrith side). Bulldogs and Souths can stay at the Olympic Stadium.

One thing I hope this does is get rid of the grass hills. NRL fans seem to have a nostalgic fondness for them, but they're an embarrassment. Apart from a small hill in Adelaide Oval, I think NSW is now the only place in the world that has fully professional sporting matches played in stadiums with grass hills.

Newcastle has a hill

Considering the rent is like $1 p/a at Campbelltown it makes sense that they entrench the region as it's own.

Newcastle has a hill

And is in NSW, so the point stands.

There are long-term plans to turn the hills into seating (which would also allow the Squadron to move to an end), but they seem stalled at the moment. Maybe the WWC would provide impetus to do this.

“....New South Wales Deputy Premier John Barilaro nominated the success of Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta as an influential factor for this strategy.
“The government has an appetite for the ground renewal program that the NRL has put forward,” Barilaro said. “I think we’re going back to basics, back to the past where that tribalism is actually what the competition needs in a way. We’re seeing upgrades at Brookvale, you’ve got the Parramatta stadium. If we’ve got an opportunity to do three or four or five more Bankwests, well that’s got to be great for the game long term, great for the community and great for that competition.”
New South Wales Deputy Premier John Barilaro. New South Wales Deputy Premier John Barilaro.Source:Getty Images The 48-year-old confirmed he was “confident” ANZ Stadium would host the 2020 NRL Grand Final.
In response to the report, former Wallaby and respected journalist Peter FitzSimons criticised the NRL’s reliance on the government for planned stadium development.
On Tuesday morning, FitzSimons tweeted: “Great that the NRL wants a whole slew of new stadiums. But any chance they — and not the taxpayer — could PAY for them, THEMSELVES?! Outrageous.”
Australian author and broadcaster Paul Wallbank delivered a similarly scathing assessment: “Good-o. The NSW government wants to extend the Liberal Party’s unsustainable middle class welfare principles to Sydney’s sports stadiums, lumbering councils with facilities they’ll struggle to maintain.”
Former Fox Sports commentator Simon Hill took the opportunity to revisit comments he made about the NRL’s stadium strategy in 2016. “The bloated NRL has paid-for infrastructure coming out of its ears,”
Hill wrote. “What a pity all that money is being spent, merely on touching up one old venue (Allianz), and making a bigger venue (ANZ) marginally smaller. All the while, one of the most famous old suburban homes of football, St George Stadium, sits and rots. “It would be the perfect fit for both a new, football-specific stadium, and a training hub for Sydney FC, and national teams. Sadly, as per usual, the NRL made all the noise.”

I don’t really think the soccer should be involved in the conversation. There are no teams to play at If Penrith, Manly, Kogarah and Liverpool got new stadiums.

Alternative 1 is the NSW government talks to FFA and they promise to have permanent franchises there.

Alternative 2 is clubs rent their use. For this to happen we would need a second division. For this to happen we need an FFA to set it up.

Hardly.

Even if Football hasn't got weekly tenants in these grounds now doesn't meen we can't offer other one off events like Matildas games.

Football was set to benefit from the original stadium strategy and now gets nothing apart from Sydney FC sent to the wilderness for years only to return to a stadium that is still too big and now has no curtain to justify the rebuild.

We absoloutely should be lobbying for for the reallocation of funds to benefit us in some way as compensation for that change. We especially need to make sure that any potential Campbelltown upgrade doesn't get screwed over by a new stadium in Liverpool.

FFA would only work on a perhaps basis “we could/may put games there”

There has been talk of rugby expansion. A western Sydney team. ARU should get a vote too.

I've also heard the talk about this Pacific Islander team in Western Sydney (which is not a new idea) but it would almost certainly be out of Bankwest and also just as likely to be based in South Auckland instead if they form a new competition with NZ.

If that particular idea doesn't go ahead, there is a fat chance in hell that that the any Rugby team will be playing west of Balmain once the SFS rebuild is complete. They already got everything they wanted, they don't need any more input.

Liverpool Council welcomes push for new 20,000-seat stadium

...Liverpool City Mayor Wendy Waller advised “I am pleased to hear that Liverpool is being considered and I look forward to the NSW Government’s investment to build and maintain any new stadium in our LGA.

“It makes sense to have a new world-class stadium in the home of Western Sydney International Airport and the neighbouring Western Sydney Aerotropolis. We are recognised internationally as a city of innovation and deserve top-tier cultural and recreation facilities that will enhance the city’s liveability.

“Council sees a bright future for Liverpool, with continued investment in commercial operations, transport, freight and education infrastructure bringing new job opportunities for residents and cementing Liverpool as Sydney’s third CBD.

“A stadium would serve as a good stimulus for job creation during this challenging period and into the future, while also putting Liverpool on the map as South West Sydney’s globally-connected sporting capital.”

Mayor Waller said it would be important for any stadium development to be well planned.

Mayor Waller added “the right site will need to be determined so that it’s well connected by public transport to minimise its impact on the local road network.

“Playing our part as a city of innovation and collaboration, we’re already working closely with Transport for NSW on our Fifteenth Avenue Smart Transit (FAST) Corridor. It’s our vision for a frequent and rapid public transport connection to the new airport from Sydney’s third CBD that will be future-proofed for emerging technologies such as driverless electric buses or trackless trams.

“The timing is right to capitalise on our current FAST Corridor planning work to link up this future stadium with the Liverpool city centre, Western Sydney International Airport and Western Sydney Aerotropolis, and greater Sydney’s public transport network.”

Would rather FFA push for 10k seater at Tweed like the old Seagulls Stadium.

It's a good idea actually.   They've been also been talking about a stadium out at Fairfield Showgrounds for a long, long time.

I reckon it's possible that Liverpool would want their own side one day and not follow WSW or Macarthur.

Liverpool has the potential to be big enough (population wise). My only reservation is that the Macarthur bid was meant to be a joint bid with the Liverpool one. Either way, more stadiums at the 20k mark the better.

What current football teams in Sydney are in or around the Liverpool area that could and want to put their hand up for a National Second division?

As a new stadium could be used by them as a ready to go stadium... for future teams already in the area

but agree FFA must still get funding for Campbeltown stadium to really make that work

Sydney United are close to Liverpool area... are they still a big club with ambition?

sydney Olympic have a great ground already at Belmore and I did see some rendered drawings of a new training facility that looked amazing but can’t remember which site I saw it on? Anyone have an idea?

what should happen is central coast should move to the new sea eagles ground that is already getting updated if there isn’t already a NSD club ready to step up in the area!

What ground could APEA use?

You guys in Sydney are so spoilt for choice with semi descent rectangular grounds that could be used by ambitious clubs to at least start a NSD comp and be part of a future expanded A league.

Melbounre is void of rectangular grounds that would be required and honestly would need to start from scratch and build new.

We have to move away from the thinking that if Northern Mariners were born Manly United shouldn’t get a chance (or vice versa).

Well I was talking about How we best  use modern stadia!
With northern sydney gaining a new stadium as I mentioned is there a northern side that can fill that stadium in at least a NSD club capacity or do we look at central coast relocating in short term!
I’m not from Sydney so that’s why I’m asking on a forum questions about soccer specifics in Sydney.

I’m pretty sure Manly United will be interested in NSD
It would seem unlikely imo that they would play NSD in a bigger stadium that costs more when theirs may meet the minimum standard criteria, yet to be released, by a AAFC.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cromer_Park

they already use the ground and pay for it.

As for SU58 - their stadium imo is good enough for AL. Barring repairs.

A NSD could them incentive to upgrade. They own their ground so don’t imagine they would want to play or pay rent somewhere else

Olympic and Belmore Park, I can't recall everything but its been a constant political hot potato with the NRL Dogs, < they don't want to share with SO.

Marconi based in Fairfiled, 20min drive from Liverpool.
They have no need to move from their long time ground, it has good under cover seating, it needs some renos done and far side cleaned up they can be in the NSD easily.
SU58 also, they have no need to move and have just done some re work on their synthetic pitch.

APIA been home at Lambert Park for the ages like Marconi, you would never consider a move but their seating is crap, plans have been in the making a long time replacing the crap old under cover seating street side but still in limbo if when/done NSD again no prob to enter.

Re CCM, I just can't grasp Clubs re locating, CCM is not part on northern Sydney. (the nrl dragons/illawara merger has not worked great, worse the Tigers/Wests playing out of Cambeltown)
I have been a northern Syd resident all my life, Manly United based at Cromer Park not far from Brookvale oval is a synthetic pitch with grandstand, can easily be in NSD.
No need to align with the Sea Eagles at Brookvale imo.
Sharing with NRL clubs not going to work, even more now that we are going to a winter comp ie AL also, can't share the same ground after its been hacked up after a nrl game.

I reckon many players would choose the cold and hacked up playing field, rather than the oppressive heat, for welfare and performance reasons.

As for SU58 - their stadium imo is good enough for AL. Barring repairs.

Sharing with NRL clubs not going to work, even more now that we are going to a winter comp ie AL also, can't share the same ground after its been hacked up after a nrl game.

Sydney, the Wanderers, Newcastle, Brisbane and the two Melbourne sides already do do that between March and May every year. They've survived. The key is to alternate weekends, or ensure that, if they're on the same weekend, football matches are played before rather than after Rugby matches.

Not playing A-League in winter should also mean these grounds can have a few months of downtime, in which they can theoretically ensure the turf is at a high standard for the start of the season.
