+x+x+x+xWhen are the next upcoming underage matches that we can actually watch? Feels like forever since there's been anything televised/streamed. 9 July we play the U15 AFF Championship with all the heavy hitters of the south east asia. After that we've got the U16 AFC qualifiers in September followed by the U19 AFC qualifiers in November, which may or not be picked up by Optus Sport. Don't they already have the rights for these events. If so, it would make me happier as an Optus customer. :) Not sure - if they do they haven't made it known, although they did broadcast previous youth tournaments we have played in so there is some hope. I only found out by accident that they're broadcasting the final stages (quarters, semis and final) of the U20 World Cup currently underway in South Korea. These are only qualifiers however, not the tournament proper, so we may luck out.

Watching Portugal vs Uruguay and a bit before in USA vs Venezuela, the level of football is quite high and with Australia not involved we are very behind.
For a bit of perspective, Japan, South Korea and Saudi Arabia whom apart from the host made the AFC u19 final last year and this year they both lost in the second round stage, very tough to crack the next level against the traditionally strong south american and european teams.

Jacob Italiano dreaming of professional career after FFA Centre of ExcellenceFifteen-year-old Jacob Italiano is daring to dream of a career as a professional soccer player, despite the FFA Centre of Excellence controversially closing in August. He may be young, but he's setting his sights high when it comes to his future after an impressive season playing for the program in Canberra's premier league.  Jacob Italiano is hoping to score a professional contract when the FFA Centre of Excellence closes in August. Photo: Tom FalcoWith the Centre shutting down, this will be his final season to impress in the program, with their next assignment against Belconnen United at McKellar Park on Saturday. "The goal is to get a professional contract," Italiano said. "I came to the Centre of Excellence because I thought it would be the best path for me to make a career out of football." The West-Australian winger was unsure where his career would take him to next, but Centre head-coach Tony Vidmar was confident he has the tools to make it to the next level. "I'm confident he'll go to an A-League club," Vidmar said. "He's one of the players that came in with a purpose, he knows what he wants to do. "You can see that he's driven and wants to be better than he was the session before." Vidmar, who make 79 appearances for the Socceroos, feared the closure of the Centre of Excellence would mean young talent like Italiano would slip through the cracks. The Centre has been running since 1981, but the FFA has decided to shift the development pathway through A-League academies rather than retain their long-standing base at the AIS. The decision's come under fire from many with many of the academies being unprepared. "If Jacob didn't come through the [Centre of Excellence] program I don't think we would have ever seen the best of him," said Vidmar "This is why this place has been in existence for so long because this is a place you get expert coaching the best facilities and the best performance managers around that help the players individually." The FFA made the controversial decision to close the Centre of Excellence at the end of the current National Premier League season, cutting a number of player's scholarships short. Italiano's one of those players and is partway through a two-year scholarship. Like the rest of his teammates, he goes to school at Lake Ginninderra. He represented the Joeys, Australia's under-17s team, at the AFC under-16 championships in India last year. "Since the program is coming to an end, I'm more motivated to ensure that I'm improving. I want to improve every week." Italiano said. "The amount of players that have come through and done well speaks volumes of the program. I know I'm best prepared for the next step up."

Just to fresh out our minds regards to the Socceroos, the new generation of the players the under 15s have a camp this week for the upcoming u15 AFF Cup next month, assuming it will be close to the final squad also if its anything to go by. Sydney FC's Academy players are dominating this week's Joey's (Australian U17) training camp with no fewer than six players selected to be part of Tony Vidmar's squad.Academy players Ryan Teague, Jaiden Kucharski, Jayden Trenkoski, Scott Browning, Thomas Main and Adam Pavlesic were all selected for the camp at the AIS in the lead up to the AFF U-15 Youth Championship being held in Thailand next month.Following the naming of the squad, Trenkoski injured an ACL and had to pull out, however the Sky Blues remain the most represented club within the camp which comprises of 30 players and concludes on Friday (16 June).Players from Hyundai A-League club academies as well as various PlayStation 4 NPL clubs are also represented as the Joey's prepare for the AFF U-15 Youth Championship to be held in Chonburi, Thailand from 9-22 July.The Joeys are in Group A alongside host nation Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia and Singapore with the tournament a lead up to the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship Qualifiers taking place in September. Could start in our u18s or u20s squad and if/when good enough get a crack with the bog boys in NPL1 or the HAL lol the oldest starting lineup in the country ? X 2 lol lol With the least amount of youth promoted to senior squad lol. Some clueless posters here. We are talking about a youth footballer here. He's not going to be walking into HAL squads just yet. SFC are the dominant youth setup in NSW and currently provide an unrivaled pathway for young players. Many other HAL clubs don't even have teams in all age groups from u12s and up. He could work his way up at the level suitable to his skills and develop at whichever level would best suit him. He could also train with the senior squad occasionally to learn from the best players in the country. And while yes our current first team is old, do people really expect all these players to be there forever? Lol. By the time this kid is ready for the HAL there will be an opening for him if he's good enough, at the very least on the bench. WSW do have a similar setup to us but are still only second in the NPL 2 for their teams whereas we're in NPL1. I'm not having a go at other clubs, merely stating that SFC currently has a more advanced setup than other HAL clubs, unless there's been developments for other clubs recently. And i'm sure people are aware of Arnie having given a number of kids a go in the past. Our previous crop of youth players simply weren't good enough. Even then the likes of Blackwood, Naumoff and Hoole all got a shot. Once our current crop have developed further they'll get their opportunity. Charlie being the first cab off the rank most likely. From what i've seen of Italiano in the national team he's a player with a lot of potential and I hope he does well at whichever club he chooses. Obviously family will also be a major drawcard for him and his future plans

Albury City's Isaac Hovar continues rise through the ranks of soccer world with call-up to the Australian under 15s team
 NATIONAL HONOUR: Isaac Hovar is set for the experience of his life after being selected in the Australian Joeys under 15s side. Picture: SIMON BAYLISS Albury City junior Isaac Hovar is the talk of the AWFA community this week after being selected for the Australian Joeys under 15s. Hovar was picked during the final selection camp at the AIS last week. He will now play for Australia in the AFF under-15s Youth Championship at Chomburi, Thailand, as part of a 23-player squad departing on July 2.
Hovar will play against host nation Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia and Singapore from July 9-22. Whilst the national selection process is an ongoing one subject to performance, Thailand is a lead up tournament to the 2018 AFC U-16 championship qualifiers. In the event that Isaac retains his spot, these qualifiers would commence in September in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The goal of qualification is to attain a spot for Australia at the FIFA under-17 World Cup in 2019. Around these exciting new developments, Isaac continues to travel to Sydney weekly to train and play with the Marconi under-15s NPL side. “He has been playing well and gained time playing up in the under 16 and under 18 teams, as well as benching for the under 20 side on one occasion,” his father, Peter, said. “We understand Isaac is the only regionally-based player to have made the final squad and we have been very fortunate and grateful to have the support of Rex Regional Express who are assisting with Isaac’s weekly travel to and from Sydney.” Hovar, 14, has been part of several elite football squads and programs since the age of eight, including AWFA representative teams, NSW Country and the NSW Country team at the FFA Australian Youth National Championships. “We are grateful to Albury City and AWFA for the ongoing support provided to Isaac on his football journey,” Peter said. “We believe this support and the solid foundations provided through local SSF and junior football have been fundamental towards helping Isaac attain the opportunities that have now opened up for him.” Albury City president Cam Burns said Hovar has been incredibly loyal to the club. “He’s Albury City through and through, he came through the MiniRoos program and has always played in his age group and higher each week,” Burns said.
“We have Murray United across the river, but his parents have taken Isaac through the AWFA pathway, which meant training and Wagga and Griffith and playing games all over the place. “It was through that process that Marconi found him, so it proves that clubs are out there looking at the regional areas. “Marconi is obviously his primary club and we’re now the additional club, but we’ll always call him ours.”

Joeys squad for the AFF U15 tournament has been announced - this tournament is a precursor to the AFC U16 championships in September, which are used as qualifiers for the U17 World Cup (sorry about the list of names - the forums do weird shit with grids) Joeys squad named ahead of AFF U-15 ChampionshipsMonday, 3 July 2017 - The Joeys squad is today (Monday) on their way to Thailand as they ramp up preparations for this month’s AFF U-15 Youth Championships. Coach Tony Vidmar has selected a 23-player squad for the tournament which begins on July 9. The entire squad will have a pre-tournament training camp in Bangkok for four days before heading to Chonburi on Friday ahead of the championships. “It’s the first time these players will be playing together in Asia so it will be a massive learning curve for them,” Vidmar said. “They’ll be playing in tough conditions and have a match every 2nd day. “This should prepare them for the qualifiers [2018 AFC U-16 Championship Qualifiers] in September. “We will create a very challenging environment to see which players can stand up to the rigours of international football.” The Joeys are in Group A alongside host nation Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia and Singapore. Not so fussed about this tournament (although a good showing would be nice) it's the AFC U16 tournament where we need to shine, to qualify for the U17 World Cup.

Its good to see players selected from outside of the 'system' i wondering if Marconi have been following the NC? I think these guys are the first batch to go through the whole NC from SSGs, SAP until now the game training phase so it would be interesting to see how they compare to other teams in the past.
