borello probably takes a wing spot, Sotirio possibly takes the other. I'm surprised they don't have that 18yr old striker from the roar. But buhagier and blackwood are passable

Buhagiar  is decent.

SFC fans are probably over the moon with this year's performance, but Blackwood's lack of HAL game time has been a waste of a talented player's development.

This happens in any young player's development.

He has all the tools.

Any news regarding the latest u15s/16s Joeys? Apparently, they had a camp this week as they prepare for the U15 AFF Cup in Thailand in July.

I found a source from WSW about their players selected but there is no official FFA release about it.

I have had this thread up for how long not? When have the FFA every taken youth tournaments seriously and with any respect? These fucks are the epitome of cancer and complain about being broke. Only a dumb fuck could be low on funds controlling football.

Junior World Cup in 2019 beckons for Local Sports Star nominee Stephan de Robillard

STEPHAN de Robillard is green and gold all over after being chosen for the Australian under-17 Joeys squad.

The 14-year-old Patrician Brothers’ College student competed at the under-15 National Soccer Championships at Coffs Harbour in March and was chosen from a team of future stars to represent Australia in the junior 2019 World Cup, in Russia.

“It’s pretty exciting to be on the team,” the Blacktown teen said.

“I’ve been reading about the World Cup and it’s really good to be selected.”

The 14-year-old Patrician Brothers’ College student will represent Australia in the junior 2019 World Cup, in Russia.
He has been nominated for the Local Sports Stars awards in the individual category.

While the left winger has his sights set on the Australian Socceroos team, he also wants to go even bigger, playing for a European club such as Real Madrid.

“My favourite player is Cristiano Ronaldo,’’ he said.

“I want to go even further and play in Europe.’’

For now though, Stephan is focusing on his club games with the Marconi Stallions, and training three times a week, along with the Joeys’ soccer camps.

Stephan has been nominated for the Local Sports Stars awards in the individual category.

Other categories include Junior Sports Star Team, Young Sporting Spirit Team and Service to Sport.

Football player Anton Mlinaric in training for FIFA U-17 World Cup

Anton Mlinaric has been playing football since he was just four — and now he is preparing for a chance to play for his country.

Mlinaric, 15, is in Year 10 at Bossley Park High School, where he benefits from participating in the Talented Football Program.

“The program allows me to have extra training that we wouldn’t get anywhere else,” he said.

“It’s helpful to get a step above everyone else — it’s very competitive.”

Anton Mlinaric is a Year 10 student at Bossley Park High School.

Mlinaric was also recently selected to trial for a place in the Joeys, the Australian under-17s football team, which is currently preparing for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The competition will take place in Brazil in 2019.

“I got an email telling me I had been selected to trial, so I attended a three-day camp at Valentine Sports Park in Glenwood,” Mlinaric said.

“We did a few training games with the Australian coach in the professional environment, which was a really good experience.”

The team, which is currently comprised of under-15s players, will spend the next two years working towards the World Cup.

“The training was the best part of the camp,” Mlinaric said.

“Just getting to work on those skills in the professional environment was a good way to prepare.”

Anton Mlinaric is in the Talented Football Program at Bossley Park High School.

Making the Australian team is just one of Mlinaric’s many goals for his future football career.

“Hopefully I will be able to play overseas somewhere down the track,” he said.

“I love football; I love the adrenaline rush when you score, or make a good tackle.”

His favourite team is Manchester United, but he looks up to Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho as a role model.

“He’s my favourite player because he came from nothing and became a great success,” Mlinaric said.

“He gives his money to charity and he uses his success to help others, but he isn’t cocky.”

Anton Mlinaric has been selected to trial for the Australian Under 17s Joeys squad.

Mlinaric currently plays centre-back for Sydney FC, and has scored one goal, against APIA Leichhardt Tigers, in the season to date.

Mlinaric is this week’s Local Sports Star competition nominee.

The competition is open to local children who have excelled in their chosen sport.

Will be great to see how this group of players (2002-03) go. The boys that I have seen here in Melb are a very talented group. Not sure its a good idea for the gerno to state that the young lad is on his way to the 2019 world cup just yet, 2 years is a long time, quite a few selection stages along the way, but I wish all the boys good luck.

@JDB03 Hi mate, in opinion is the new group better than the last joeys batch from last year or not?

I think if I'm correct it's probably the first group to through the whole NC system from SAP to now since it got implemented in 2010?
It would be interested to observe the qualities of the players coming through.

Also with no FFA COE I wonder what kind of pathway they will be involved too.

Good list, thanks. I might help the unknowns.

Ward I believe is at Canberra Olympic, at least he was last year.
Perry is still at the AIS.

So of that squad, it would seem to me that the only one to kick on to a senior squad has been Joe Caletti with perhaps Daniel Arzani too. Pretty poor strike rate from supposedly the cream of the crop in these underage squads I would've thought.

Insert standard comment about a B league. At 18 years old these guys should have the opportunity to play 25 games a year against men.

Hi Barca, I can only really comment on the Vic boys and as ive seen the 2002's come through they really look the goods. I would say that maybe a bit ahead of the 2000's. The 2000's were the first to be in the SAP in Vic when Ivan Jolic started it but in full swing with the 2002's. As for the pathway for these 2002's I know most of them are in MV and MC U18's squads. Some at MC are training with U20's and senior youth also. I think 9-10 so far have trialled for the next joeys squad.

That doesn't happen in the Epl and doesnt seem to hurt them that much, Though in Germany the bigger clubs play their u23s in the third tier

TSF I think you might find things will be different with the 2002's. As much as im not convinced that closing down the COE is a good idea it will put all the players on a level playing field when it comes to selection. They will be called in from all different parts of Aussie clubs.

I just google him followed by soccer. The last search came up with him at the AIS. Whether or not he is still there is another thing.

Ward is at WSW's NPL2 team
Looks like Fotakopoulos was also there and at the Berries last year

Hi Barca, I can only really comment on the Vic boys and as ive seen the 2002's come through they really look the goods. I would say that maybe a bit ahead of the 2000's. The 2000's were the first to be in the SAP in Vic when Ivan Jolic started it but in full swing with the 2002's. As for the pathway for these 2002's I know most of them are in MV and MC U18's squads. Some at MC are training with U20's and senior youth also. I think 9-10 so far have trialled for the next joeys squad.

Cheers FDB03, it would be interesting observing.

The last group looked technically quite strong although they lacked power and physical strength which resulted in the bad AFC results against the minnows.

When are the next upcoming underage matches that we can actually watch? Feels like forever since there's been anything televised/streamed.

After that we've got the U16 AFC qualifiers in September followed by the U19 AFC qualifiers in November, which may or not be picked up by Optus Sport.

Don't they already have the rights for these events. If so, it would make me happier as an Optus customer. :)
