Wow - great to see he’s committed to Australia, at least at U23 level.

I wouldn't at this stage. McGree isn't even starting at City atm.

Has he? He has a brother John. But both have only a tenuous link to Australia through their grandmother. Is there any information on him being scouted for the Socceroos?

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great player with a bright future, however after watching the u19 qualifiers last October, I thought he played poorly and think Thurgate deserved a run after his efforts.

I didn't watch that much of it tbh so I can't comment on how Pasquali played. What's Thurgate's natural position btw?

Decent Olyroos squad, South Korea will be a tough game.
The Joeys led 2-1 in the last few minutes but lost 3-2 to Tanzania in the friendly game in Turkey.

+xDecent Olyroos squad, South Korea will be a tough game. The Joeys led 2-1 in the last few minutes but lost 3-2 to Tanzania in the friendly game in Turkey. How incredibly disappointing. Our men's national team's are all a complete disaster at present. A real lack of quality at all age groups, and poor coaching seems to be another issue.

We have to remember these are just pure friendly games where the result wont be important for the coaches, also alot of new players are getting tried out so there wont be much cohesion. The bigger picture has to be the world cup later this year.

+xLeo Mazis hasn't got a look in at any age level for Australia has he ? He's playing regularly at Celtic Leo played with the U18 squad that went to Japan last year for the SBS Cup. He plays regularly for the U18's at Celtic and usually comes off the bench for the Ressies.

I suppose you could argue it is, but the question is, do we want to align ourselves with European academy types which will likely be more efficient in the long-run, or do we do what the Qatari's did with the Aspire program which is similar to the AIS, with specialised training and stuff. Which has clearly worked over a short period. Last night I watched Charlestown vs Newcastle Jets Youth and was very impressed with a number of Jets players. Their first touches and ability on the ball was superb, especially Maki Petratos and their new signing former SD Raiders winger Matthew Barkho who played against Bolt in 'that' friendly. Noah James, the Goalkeeper was absolutely brilliant as well before being injured unsurprisingly. BUT, the only thing that let them down was their finishing, could've been 5 or 6 nil. News this morning of Kwabena Appiah signing for the Jets completely deflated the excitement I had after watching those youngsters last night. And THAT is ultimately a huge part of our problem.

My cheif concern is whether or not hal clubs actually have the resources to properly fund academies

No luck in the first friendly for the Olyroos going down 2-0 to Petaling Jaya City FC CSNSportsTalk14th March, UiTM Stadium. Selangor. International Friendly match. PJ City FC vs Australia U23. PJ City FC win 2-0 over Australia.

Keeping in mind that club teams train and play together every day, whereas our boys have probably never met each other up until last week
